EMI Shut Their Hut

EMI imprint Hut, whose artists include Richard Ashcroft and Placebo, is to close.

The imprint was fairly autonomous, but the closure means that a number of staff will now be seeking employment elsewhere in the EMI group. Hut's existing roster will be absorbed by Virgin.

That's it, unless you want to add anything...?

EMI Shut Their Hut

Add anything? Well, if none of them are being dropped then that seems OK. Otherwise it isn't.

EMI Shut Their Hut

Yesterday EMI said that they were looking to ditch more 'niche' artists (have a gander at my post in ther forum over EMI and knives).

EMI Shut Their Hut

rest in peace hut

Re: EMI Shut Their Hut

I think the current artists will just move to Virgin proper.

There's no talk of any artists being dropped.

But I imagine afew jobs will go, since it's a streamlining move.

EMI Shut Their Hut

Good! Fuck 'em. Get these faux """indie""" fucking labels out of music.

EMI Shut Their Hut

Yeah, too right Limo. Fuck 'em indeed, ever noticed why these bands supposedly on indie record labels getting full page adverts in national magazines? Funny that.

EMI Shut Their Hut

Nothing smells sweeter than the candour of indie snobs, yes? Being on a label like Hut is the way that many indie/small bands get noticed more by the mainstream audience. Hut had the Verve and it had the Auteurs, do you think either would have gotten more coverage and attention if they'd be on some minute label in Manchester for instance? Tom, I love your complaint about bands supposedly on indie labels getting full page adverts. Does that compare with the likes of My Bloody Valentine pissing away so much money in the past? Fucking indie bands, wasting hundreds of thousands of cash and then going silent all these years. You don't change the mainstream by backing away from it, you have to embrace certain elements of it, if you run a label and you believe a band is genuinely good then you take the steps to tell the uninitiated about it.

EMI Shut Their Hut

Who's Virgin Records owned by? I know its not one of the "Big 5" whatever that is? Or are they independent?

Re: EMI Shut Their Hut

Virgin is EMI's bitch

EMI Shut Their Hut

I found this media release if anyone is interested.... (It's Australia, but I think it is relevant - it talks about EMI as a whole, so...)

"1,500 jobs and 20% of artists working for EMI are about to be let go worldwide by the multinational giant record company.

The devastating cuts come just a few weeks after Warner Music trimmed 20% of their workforce worldwide and a large chunk of their local artist roster.

Now as part of EMI's the cutback, the company will close their manufacturing plants and outsource the production line of their products in Europe and the USA. Around 900 jobs will be lost in the closing of the plants. As Australian manufacturing is a joint venture, it will be unaffected by the closures.

Artists considered niche or who are under-performing will be let go.

Up until a last minute change of plans, EMI had expected to merge with Warner Music but lost the deal at the 11th hour to former Universal head Edgar Bronfman Jr.

EMI chairman Eric Nicoli said today in a statement "Whilst we remain optimistic that the market will return to growth in due course, we are committed to being in the best possible shape to compete in all conditions and to take advantage of improving trends."

EMI slashed 1,800 jobs in 2001. The cuts at the time turned the company around to the point of profit.

EMI shares have been on a steady rise over the last 12 months up from 92p to 273p today but down from the 700p price they were getting in 2000.

Major artists signed to EMI include Robbie Williams (pictured), Norah Jones, Radiohead and Coldplay. Local artists include Paul Kelly, Jet, The Living End, The Vines and Alex Lloyd. The label is also the home of The Beatles and The Rolling Stones. "

Methinks the Vines will be shitting it after the UK performance of the new LP...

EMI Shut Their Hut

Does anyone know what the deal is with Heavenly Records and EMI? I thought The Vines were on Heavenly.

Re: EMI Shut Their Hut

Maybe you're think of V2, owned by Richard Branson

Re: EMI Shut Their Hut

The Vines are pretty big in Australia & HuuuuuuuuuuuuuuGE in the US. I don't think they are going anywhere...

EMI Shut Their Hut

I liked Hut ~ that is all.

Re: EMI Shut Their Hut

Heavenly is basically another EMI imprint. Much like Food which is part of Parlophone which is part of EMI. And Credence. And then there's Hut and Radiate, which are part of Virgin which is part of EMI

Re: EMI Shut Their Hut

How " HuuuuuuuuuuuuuuGE" in the US? It's about time they fucked off here.

Anyone want to buy my Vines album (first one)?

EMI Shut Their Hut

hopefully they dont drop any bands...

Re: EMI Shut Their Hut

Already have done!

Re: EMI Shut Their Hut

they're dropping 20% of their roster at least.

Re: EMI Shut Their Hut

Wish Man City would do the same at the end of the season...

You're too right -

can't say any more really

what's the matter ?

MBV - or rather, Kevin Shields, could not cope with a major release. period.
May be because the band and himself were overrated....
