V adds Muse, Strokes and Jazz-Ponce to Bill

Beneath a cloud of news that Richard Branson's Virgin will battle Apple this Autumn with a rival to I-pods and I-tunes; V festival announces one of the best line-ups ever...

According to Virtual Festivals, The Strokes, Muse and The Pixies are now 100% confirmed for this year’s V Festival which will take place across the weekend of 21-22 August in Chelmsford and Stafford. They join Kings of Leon and Massive Attack - who will be headlining the NME Stage (ditto for T in the Park) - as well as N.E.R.D, Athlete (Kill! Kill! Kill!), Primal Scream, Snow Patrol, and Keane.

It is one of the strongest line-ups the festival has ever had (well, apart from maybe QotSa and PJ Harvey last year, and sneaking Sigur Rós on the bill three years in a row). As if genre leading acts like Muse and Pixies weren’t enough, then Dido (yawn!) and Pink will provide feminine pop, whilst young-fogie Jamie Cullum will satisfy those 5-albums a year types, patiently sulking 'til the next Coldplay or U2 album drops.

Tickets go on sale at 9am on Saturday 20th March. Book early, as although there are 130,000 tickets on sale, the strength of the line up is sure to sell the event out in record time.

DiScuss: Is V really as bad as it sounds? Heard anyone else rumoured to be playing?

A firm thumbs down to this year's V Festival. I can do without seeing The Strokes and Muse, and I'm seeing the Pixies at Brixton Academy anyway. As for Dido, Pink, and Jamie Colon; UGH. +1 to Glastonbury.

I've just realised the purpose behind this site.

To make everyone in the world listen to challenging, frequently uncomfortable, often extreme music.

(i'm joking btw...)

I'm going to smack Jamie Cullum in the mouth.

the nme stage is pointless (unless this year they have sorted out the sounds, as the past 2 years ive been able to here the main stage in the background during the day) you can here the main stage whilst not very far away from the nme stage
anyway its not a bad festival, better than reading/leeds, but not as good as glastonbury.

I'm going to rape Jamie Cullum with an umbrella.

i saw muse at the ulster hall in belfast on the 21st of feb there, they were amazing!! best concert i have been to since slane in aug.

As for the v festival, i went over last year and it wasnt terribly good at all, but this year might be slightly better, if they tell dido and jc and company to fuck the hell off!

Nah i think V is pretty good, ok so it might be the 30-something Festival but least it's better than the parched flat field of Reading and isn't full of wankers in Green Day t-shirts... i'll probably go along myself, worth it to see The Pixies and Primal Scream. Would like to go to Glasto but i've got exams around that time...

Re: V adds Muse, Strokes and Jazz-Ponce to Bill

What's the betting there will be more moaning when the Reading line up gets announced...
Why do people never learn?
Why do they just say the same thing every year?
Or do they? and it's a new batch of people who moan every year.
No it's the same people. With nothing else to do?

What kind of fucking bollocks is that? Pink, Dido, Jamie Cullum. Actually, why am i complaining, the same every year really. It'll sell undoubtedly, its just i can't see many of the bands putting ona good show, apart from pixies, they will most likely rock. in socks.

does anyone have any idea of any other bands set to play V? any rumours as to the 'smaller' artists?

Re: V adds Muse, Strokes and Jazz-Ponce to Bill

Ronnie Corbett on the jazz stage.

*gets coat*

sounds like a good line up, last year was great, the organistion was MUCH better than leeds and other than killing joke i got to see all the bands i wanted to see, oh and i missed coldplay too because some prat put them on at the same time as feeder, b'tch

also i much show a non-gay non-female fondness for the jazz-ponce, oh well...

V adds Muse, Strokes and Jazz-Ponce to Bill

the organisation at leeds wasn't bad

Jamie Cullum seems to incite rather violent feelings in a lot of you. Why is that? I like him, but I don't have a problem wiht you not liking him. However, surely saying "I am going to rape Jamie Cullum with an umbrella" is taking it a little too far? If anyone feels like offering a reason for their hatred, feel free to post it below.
