Yet more you-couldn't-make-it-up tomfoolery from the States...
Missy Elliott is hosting and co-producing a new show in the US which aims to recruit an unspecified number of wannabe rap stars before taking them on tour.
The Pop Idol-meets-Reborn In The USA show, already dubbed 'Hip Hop Idol' (although its working title is The Missy Elliott Project), will test the fledgling rappers on Elliott's huge tour alongside both Alicia Keys and Beyoncé. Auditions have already begun, so any US readers looking for a slice of the diamond-crusted bling bling pie had better haul ass. There's no word yet as to exactly how the show will work, or on whether the eventual winner will earn a record contract a la Pop Idol.

Simon Cawl (is that how you spell it?) is gonna be the richest man in the world,like, innit. But I guess you gotta salute him cos everybody know that the acts that they churn out are cheesy and a bag 'o shite, so it takes away the arguement that pop is credible.

thats like saying George W Cunt is responsible for grassroots anti-globalisation movements, when in truth the damage wrought by the Evil Ones (Cowell (thats spelt right!), Bush etc) far far outweighs any positive impacts their actions might indirectly bring about.
all he's doing is killing the singles chart, and the reason more indie/guitar/hyped to buggery bands get in these days is cos you have to sell far less copies to get in it. there isn't a rebirth as such, theres just as much good stuff and just as much dross as there always was. shit like Franz Ferdinand getting to number 3 in the chart isn't indicative of anything other than the appalling taste of the record buying public.

Missy has put out consistant albums for ages and Timbaland will probably produce the winner. It'll be hard for the winner to suck.

I think it's a brilliant idea. If there is one thing we need it is certainly another reality television show handing people success on a silver platter rather than making them work for it like everyone else who has made it.

No one in their right mind would ever sign such a thing... unless they knew deep down inside that they are not talented enough to make it on their own.
Puffy wanted a piece of the action and now Missy. I know Puffy does it for the money, but I think Missy might be legit in wanting to help some undiscovered talent get noticed.

haha...it's as though Public Enemy and the entire idea of rap/hiphop as 'social commentary' has passed Josh by. Bless, thinking all there is to the genre is bling and guns - it's like believing all indie music is made by ugly boys with guitars and bad hair who spend their time wanking over Beatles/Television albums (delete as applicable)......

There was this thing on the tube about him a couple weeks ago. They talked about The Spice Girls and how they put an ad in the paper for attractive women for a new band. The ad even said something to the effect of 'You don't have to be able to sing or dance.'
For as much as I want to hate him for the evil things he has done to music and the music industry, I can't help but think 'Damn that was a good idea.'

that is because it has been commercialised in the name of industry insiders racing for huge profits, understand the artistic history for facts then criticise what you actually know, you think of rock you perhaps think darkness, you think of rap and hip hop you think bling, you think of pop and nigtmares of some poor adolescent teen group full of pimples covered in make up and some really dodgy hairdoos come into picture. True rap and hip-hop is all about poetry and spoken words of truth in ryhme, you really have to understand it to even think about liking it. You might be surprised at jst how rich a hip-hop and rock marriage can be! but your absolutely right, you don't have to like it.
