Welsh indie oddballs Gorky's Zygotic Mynci have confirmed their disbanding on their official website.
A statement on the site reads:
"Gorky's Zygotic Mynci have decided to call it a day and split up. Richard, Megan, Euros and Pete would like to thank everyone who came to the gigs and bought the records over the years. The re-issues of the first three Gorky's albums - Patio, Tatay, and Bwyd Time - will go ahead as planned and will be released before late 2006."
Together since 1991, Gorky's formed while Childs was just 15. Since then no fewer than nine studio albums have been recorded, and a singles compilation was released in 2003.

Modey Lemon and Roland Shanks for Club Seal this Friday!
every band living today sounds like Gorky's
well in my awake dreams they do. I had Barrafuddle - that was ok wasn't it?
NNNNNNNOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! etc
They were the best band in Britain, no one wrote melodies as beautiful. Have been and always will be my favourite band.
Props to them homiez,
it's sad that they're calling it a day but they're one of those bands whose influence will loom large forever. Which means that even though they were never massive stars, they still WON. Hail Gorky's! Hurrah!
:(
loads of bands are splitting up this year...is it the weather?
I confirm
that I'm realy sad !
...
Anyone heard seven sleepers den by Richard James? I havn't at all but have an inkling i'll love it, partly due to the title and shared name with mr Aphex, but mainly beacuse it sounds like the kind of record I'd expect to be half in 67 and a quarter in 98.
I remember seeing Gorky's at Leeds Festival sometime between 1999-2000. I wasnt ready for em at the time but still enjoyed it enough to stop talking
nnnnnnnnnnnnnoooooooo

oooooooooooooooooooooooooo!
Ugh!
It is a crying shame
Gorkys were ace...
and blatantly many a band are now beginning to sound something like them.
Still...i can console myself with the lush records by mr Euros Childs and Richard James at least, so its not all bad.
i have it
It isn't as good as the Euros Child album but is very Gorkys...
Why Gorky's were fab
Their songs were almost always punctuated with a bitterweet or dark kind of thing, like with Poodlerockin' - the guy buys a dog cos he's lonely and really likes the thing at first, but then realises that the dog only cares for the stick he is throwing, again and again etc. Also, in probably their most popular, the patio song, the protagonist isn't celebrating the reciprocation of his love, rather he's acting out the opposite of it. The patio is on fire.
sort of inevitable...
We all liked them when we should have loved them. I feel guilty! they deserved better than the middling status they will be remembered for -perhaps in a few years time a little reunion or unreleased gem or best of will redress the balance...
Gutted
they were amazing.
sadness....
this band i never really got when I first heard them. Was too in to RAWK and didn't have time for their weirdness at the age of 14/15. Then one day a few years ago I heard a re-run of a session. I won't pretend to know the song or even from which album it came, but it stopped me from turning the dial on the radio tuner and left me with my useless gob wide open for some time after.
All things, they surely have to end....
Is it true
that Cliff Richard's planning a tribute gig this summer at Old Trafford?
boo
Richard James's new album is quite something though. Either way, sad to see the split.
