Bowie taking a year off

To be honest, you'd be forgiven for thinking David Bowie was already taking time out from the music industry - his last album, Reality, was released back in 2003, and he underwent heart surgery in 2004 - but now pop's first true chameleon is officially taking time out from the business.
Bowie, 59, told the New York Metro:
"I'm fed up with the industry and I've been fed up for quite sometime.
"I'm taking a year off, no touring, no albums. I go for a walk every morning, and I watch a ton of movies. One day, I watched three Woody Allen movies in a row."
Rumours Stateside claim that Bowie is penning the soundtrack to a musical based on the life of Bruce Lee, but the singer has denied his involvement with said project. He has, though, mentioned that he may one day move into opera.

The most Woody Allen films
I've watched in a day was 2.
HE IS HARDCORE.
Wondered
I wondered where he'd gone. The Industry seems to be upsetting most artists these days. The 'Man' must have a tighter grip.
that's the luxury that is afforded to rock stars
I can only dream of the day when I can watch 3 movies in one day.
wtf
i had assumed he'd be working on the next album now, not starting to take a year out... then again, we all heard in the mid-eighties what happens when he tries to make music even though he's not interested in it. so i suppose we should be thankful.
ah well....
he's been rubbish since about 1986 anyway.*
* - not including Earthling with is ACE
also not including
Outside, Heathen, and bizzarely enough my favourite Bowie song of all time ever is on Reality. i was pretty shocked, i can tell you.
which song? Pablo Picasso? haha!
I found Reality a bit embarrassing to listen to. I think I've only heard it about 3 times.
Bring Me The Disco King
what a seven minute brooding jazz ballad had to do with the rest of the album i don't know, but there it was.
to be fair
three woody allen movies in a day is a bit hardcore. how much self-depracating nervous jewish humour can one human body take?
i love how you say that
yet apparently none of us would say no to madonna or sting. i mean.. wut?!?
i would say no to sting
but then i'm not gay.
i'd do madonna though
Bowie's a god
Since 1980 he's had a spotty record to be sure...but his work in the 70s is so pure and utter genius on every level.
Rumor has it Sting is trying to get him to invest in a NY tittie bar of some sort. Maybe that's why he needs a year off....
Re alanindiscreet. Yeah, the Spiders were brilliant, but then too was all the backing musicians in the 70s. From Robt Fripp to Adrian Belew to Eno to Iggy to David Sandborn to Earl Slick to Carlos Alomar to Tony Thompson to ...even that cat from Yes who did that incredible piano solo on Aladdin Sane.
I was listening to Heroes this morning for the 800,000th time, and I estimate it's ten times as good as anything before or since (other RCA Bowie notwithstanding).
OK, I'm a Bowiephile. A fanatic. But that doesn't mean I'm wrong!
