Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly... to Atlantic

Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly has, as expected, signed to Atlantic Records.

DiS heard a few whispers to this effect t'other week, but we've kept schtum 'til the official announcement was made. Which it now has been, via GCWCF's old label, Big Scary Monsters:

"GET CAPE. WEAR CAPE. FLY has signed to Atlantic. More on this will be announced soon, but for now we'd just like to wish him the best of luck and say that it's been a privilege to work together for the past 18 months and three releases. Embarrassing videos and photos will be available from www.ebay.co.uk in the next 12 months.

"Sam has spent the last two weeks in the US playing a couple of shows in New York, appearing at SXSW and then jetting over to LA to support Jose Gonzales. But if you STILL haven't caught on to what the buzz is all about (come on people, even The Sun are giving him good write-ups these days!), then why not check him out on tour with OK Go or at his Levi's One To Watch headlining show at the London Barfly?"

Why not indeed? GCWCF plays the following dates:

March
26 Nottingham Rock City (w/ OK Go)
27 Cardiff University (w/ OK Go)
28 Oxford The Zodiac (w/ OK Go)
29 Portsmouth Wedgewood Rooms (w/ OK Go)
30 London The Scala (w/ OK Go)

prepares to ebay

limited edition white vinyl and first run version of the ep

ne ideas

if they are playing stand alone dates????

There's absolutely no difference...

...between the original press of the EP and the the one out now. It's just more copies of the same EP.

If you have the 3" split on the other hand, you may be rolling in cash very soon.

wow

i like the guy and i've seen him a couple of times and enjoyed it a lot, but i got the impression that not many people felt the same way? venues have never been particularly full when i've seen him and its not as if they've been big ones or anything.

good luck to him though.

hmm

saw him at truck last year and wasn't really very impressed; just added him to a long list of artists using laptops and writing very average music.

still, he's getting bummed from all quarters so i guess this makes sense.

As much as I may sound like a dick

you can see how he has 'mainstream cross-over potential'

Whenever

I see this band's name I think of that post that said "Get Dog. Walk Dog. Shit." Makes me laugh every time!!!

oh totally

i just haven't seen any evidence of him being that popular at a non-mainstream level. maybe i just saw him at gigs that weren't promoted properly.

erm, i meant

'oh totally, i agree' rather than 'oh totally, you sound like a dick'. just thought i'd clear that up.

i know what you mean

i saw him at the water rats with dave house and there were about 12 people there.

but I know the EP sold out an intial pressing of 500 copies and was repressed at least once, maybe more..

i noticed that he

had his label listed as Atlantic on myspace a few days ago.

Nicely done, anyway..

!

He was one Radio One the other day.

Ironically it was to do with being unsigned and that...

I like, well done.

Yes

he is fucking rubbish. Like Dashboard Confessional with bleepy bits. And he has a stupid face.

For some reason his popularity and apparent acceptability in indie circles makes me angry.

Get Cape, Drop Cape, Die

what a clever comment you made there

with the mocking of his stage name. very clever. how's that working out for you?

in other news, dashboard has never written a song about the far right in British politics. wut?

i know that

but there are people out there who buy tickets from ebay as "front row standing"

besides i like it so im keeping it

bad laptop emo

Frank Turner's where brit-folk's at.

quick question

are all his songs as terrible as the ones on myspace?

Meh

I think he's pretty cool, it's been packed out both times that I've seen him and the whole crowd were singing along!

oh my gosh

Yes! His face!

And having a twee/pretentious/whatever band name is bad enough, but it's not even a band.

!

Judging on the two songs from both GCWCF and Frank Turner that I heard on a recent Rock Sound cd, I'd have to say I like GCWCF alot more. Accoustic with full band very rarely works...

I think

that people only like bands these days if they have a cool name.

Nothing to do with their music.

news?

This happened nearly 2 weeks ago....

erm

get cape. wear cape. fly! is a terrible name, yet i still like him.

but maybe you're right, sam duckworth doesn't sound very rock and roll does it?

GCWCF

Is/Are so much more interesting than Frank Turner - not that Frank Turner isnt great either, just Sam thingumy is even better.

For bad laptop emo read interesting, charismatic, and intelligent songwriting/electronica crossover.

frank turner

is much better than get cape. and much more interesting.

have you heard his lyrics?

plus, get cape. wear cape. fly is an awful name

get

cape sucks.

his music and lyrics are appalling, i dont know what the fuss is about.
hes a local in southend were im at college and is the most arrogant-for-no-reason kid about.

hmmm

I was drawn in by the name and the idea of him and bought 2 EP's which I realise now I never play because I don't actually like them. This could well mean he is destined for huge success but basically he's not that interseting is he?

hmm..

can't really see how his lyrics can be called 'appalling' when they actually discuss topics which are important and meaningful, e.g third world poverty, racism, slavery,(which is actually quite hard to fit into a melodical rhyming lyric!) unlike most bands which seem to trundle along ranting about about girls and other various forms of crap. Also, i'm not repressing your point but i don't see how his personal attitude really affects his song lyrics and music ?! that aspect doesn't really relate to it. I've met him a fair few times and he's seemed anything but arrogant, infact he's been incredibly humble and appreciative for all the attention he's recieved.
He actually seems generally in it for the music, which is such a rare quality in artists today.
But whatever, just my opinion!
