Reading 2003: Tix Onsale (V. Soon)

Credit Cards at the ready...

Apparently, according to a mail from Mean Fiddler HQ, as of 6pm this evening (Jan 28th 2003!) a limited number of Reading Weekend Tickets (no mention of Leeds in the mail!) will be onsale to @ readingfestival.com priced at £95 (plus booking fees).

This year’s Reading Rock Extravaganza, featuring (the band who announced themselves) Metallica, takes place on 22nd - 24th August at the farm where it usually takes place: Richfield Avenue, Reading. The bills not been confirmed but will probably be announced in the next few weeks, as per usual, with bands confirmed right up to the day before.

To find out about stuff like this first, get yourself into the Mean Fiddler matrix, join their free "members club" here.

DiScuss: Is it taking the piss charging £100 for a festival that could have a terrible line-up? Who've you heard RUMOURED to be playing? Who do you WANT to see? What's the best Reading you've been to..?

Reading 2003: Tix Onsale (V. Soon)

My monies on...

KISS, Queens of the Stone Age and Placebo to co-headline.. supported by Tool, Sigur Ros, Elliott Smith, Bright Eyes, Millionairre, Lou Reed, The Coopers, Pennywise...

Gotta shoot else i'd list more guesses (based on who's got releases this year that i'm looking forward to!)

tool? :D

*whimper*

millionaire would be good, they're excellent.

bit of span wouldn't go amiss... queen adreena? they've picked up a lot of support over the past year, would be a good way to cement it...

nothing's really gonna top metallica-ca-ca though.

If Bright Eyes are playing, please please let that mean Desaparecidos are playing. It'd be nice to see Spoon and Courtney Love show up as well.

Re: Reading 2003: Tix Onsale (V. Soon)

I'd like to see:

'Tallica
Sigur Ros
The Wildhearts
3 Colours Red
Tool
Zwan
Converge
NOFX again..
Ben Kweller!

Um... that'll do me.

Re: Reading 2003: Tix Onsale (V. Soon)

Placebo headlining? Piss right off!

Re: Reading 2003: Tix Onsale (V. Soon)

Aren't Audioslave meant to be playing too?

Is it ALL the tickets that go on sale tonight? I really cant buy mine yet. Isn't this a bit ridiculously early?!

Madness!!

Re: Reading 2003: Tix Onsale (V. Soon)

A very good suggested lineup, if you don't mind me saying. I would also LOVE to see Silverchair playing, since I've been dying to see 'Diorama' performed live ever since I first heard it.

Re: Reading 2003: Tix Onsale (V. Soon)

it was a "limited number" i think they go onsale properly soon.

tis a bit o'marketing, etc.. gauging what kinda demand they have which doesnt depend on the bill..

Reading 2003: rumours

I hear that Jerry Built and White Man Kamikaze are playing the carling tent this year, its good to see new bands getting their chance.

Reading 2003: Tix Onsale (V. Soon)

as far as major bands are concerned, i reckon (and this is far from a wishlist) there's a good chance of...

'indie' day:
the white stripes
starsailor
idlewild
p.j.harvey

'eclectic' day:
the vines (going off the strokes last year, they could be jumped straight up to headliners. though i really hope not.)
beck & the flaming lips
yeah yeah yeahs
liars

'metal' day:
metallica
audioslave
system of a down or similar
linkin park or similar
blink 182 or similar
jay-z/nas/ludacris/some token rap guy

would it be too much to ask for a sonic youth appearance?

Re: Reading 2003: Tix Onsale (V. Soon)

That sounds pretty good to me!

Wouldn't it be great if Mean Fiddler could have the days on the other stages in a similar way, so that so many bands you wanna see dont all play on the same day and clash - if you're into a certain thing that is. if you're into everything it's always crazy but might be a bit less chaotic.

Re: Reading 2003: Tix Onsale (V. Soon)

I can't pretend that Reading hasn't provided my short life with some enthralling memories (i.e Ikara Colt riot night last year, International Noise Conspiracy etc), but its still a commercialised, soul sucking scheme. I mean the sound on the big stages is just awful, the food and drink is priced like jewels and the main stage (apart from a few notable execptions) generally plays turgid shite.....but but but...where on earth would you get the chance to see such an array of artists all on the same day? Reading is steeped in history and strange chants, if they could only sort the price/sound quality.....

Sonic Youth pretty please (in the Carling tent!!!) as if...
Queen Adreena
T(I)NC
Conor Oberst (whatever incarnation)
Mclusky
Ikara Colt (banned?)
Burning Brides
Your Enemies Friends
Icky Line (in the Carling tent though)
Flaming Lips
Mars Volta
Stephen Malkmus
(wakes up)

marsvoltaqueenadreenamcluskyt(i)ncyespleeeease :D

would also be slightly excellent to see span, six by seven [will they surface again??], redjetson, winnebago deal [carling tent oh bluddy yes], amen, raveonettes [haven't gotten bored of em yet] and colour of fire. and stina nordenstam too, she's sposed to have a new record out this year ain't she???
