Meanwhile, Back in Communist Russia VS Mark & Lard!

Art-rock, post-rock, electronicacore - call 'em whatever you will - Meanwhile Back in Communist Russia may be about to (with your help!) get on daytime Radio One!

Radio 1 northerner deejay types Mark & Lard have been asking listeners to vote for the worst band name ever. And currently at number 1 are Kajagoogoo, closely followed by Meanwhile, Back in Communist Russia. With your support the band can win and get a track from their forthcoming album 'My Elixir : My Poison' which is out on Truck (on February 24th) played on primetime radio. To vote, click here.

In other Russians news, the band have been invited to play over in Moscow in April. They're extremely excited about this and are hoping to drag a dis-scribe along for a vodka-fuelled gonzo ride. In other news, the Russians' John Peel session goes out this Thursday (Jan 23rd). And the band play the following UK album launch shows...

February
21st @ Holywell Music Room, Oxford. 8.30pm. Booking: 0870 750 0659 / ocmevents.org
26th @ Union Chapel Studio Theatre, London

DiScuss: Why won't the BBC play good music and support non-corporate companies all the time anyway?

discussion piece

Radio 1 plays as diverse a mix as it can probably hope to do given it's mass market remit. They should also be given credit for giving six quality unsigned acts daytime airplay over the past week. If you want to listen to a continuous feed of so-called "new" "anti-corporate" music you'd be better served by specialist digital and net radio.

that's not what i meant at all...

The BBC is funded by us the public, yet they spend pretty much all that money on marketing back to us acts on major labels and/or major companies... for instance, Parkinson is just a show that works as part of PR campaigns for things such as Eddie Izzard video's and Richard Bransons tiny little Virgin empire.

My point is, shouldn't a public service, be helping all companies, rather than the major three who quite frankly, could pay for their own record stations/tv channels??
