Oasis: How to make friends & influence people

Oasis's Noel Gallagher is mellowing out in old age, apparently.

In a recent interview with the New York Post , He showed how much he understood the importance of breaking into the American pop market and keeping his finger on the pulse of the youth of today by making a call that "Actually, you shouldn't be able to buy records until your 16."

He then lambasted US teenagers as "little immature idiots" who would "buy anything...You'll buy any old nonsense...Britney Spears and Eminem - what's all that about?" , before then savaging the meet 'n' greet system of US record company promotions with, "For our music to be heard, I think that there's just too much politics to be dealing with,"

Ever convinced of his own self-importance he then lambasted Radiohead for selling out to the US market (hmmmm) and then stating that "We've only got half a dozen good bands in England :There's Oasis and there's five Oasis tribute bands."

Last attack of the angry old man or self important wanker? You decide.

Oasis: How to make friends & influence people

Once again you've proved that slating Oasis is cool.
Lets look at the original article and not at the selected bits you've put here in your propagandist article. Noel isn't actually bothered about breaking America, he's already said that in earlier interviews, and he is pointing out the fact that to sell records in America you don't have to make a good record, you can make any old record, and if you're friends with MTV or record company executives then you'll sell loads.
And the thing about only being six good bands in England and they are all Oasis cover bands. He is being SARCASTIC. In this very same interview he says he likes the Doves and thinks their music is great. Oh, wait a minute, he was at the Coldplay gig last night, do they count as a cover band?
And if Oasis are so shit then why keep writing about what a wanker Noel is whenever he says something? He seems to be the only one speaking the truth about the American music scene.

Re: Oasis: How to make friends & influence people

Sarcasm very rarely works in print. Lets face it: Oasis sell records in england, no matter how shite: I mean, How many copies of "wibbling rivalry" were sold? or the rather piss-poor "Standing on the shoulders" for that matter?

Either way, People are still interested in oasis, no matter how bad their recent albums have been (thats a different debate). And with a band that size, people still want to read about them, and if he wants to give good copy, thats up to him. I can imagine the editors at the NY post rubbing their hands in glee....and me? I thought It might be interesting for others. The fact that you read it is testament to that! :-)

if Noel has a point to make about the state of the record industry, then he should state it explicity and plainly: the sarcasm doess not come across in print, but just as sad, bitter and condescending; no matter how true it might be.

Re: Oasis: How to make friends & influence people

it works whatever he;s saying you fuckers are talking about him...clever indeed and thats why he's top!

Re: Oasis: How to make friends & influence people

Maybe sarcasm doesn't work in print, i'm sure Noel wasn't actually thinking about that when he said what he said. It doesn't mean that you can twist what he was saying in order to make him look bad.

Re: Oasis: How to make friends & influence people

I didn't twist what i read: I used exactly the same quotes from the inteview that the BBC used on their website, in almost exactly the same context. I hadn't read the original NY Post interview; if you want to accuse me of bias, you better blame the BBC too.
