Is Nothing Sacred? - Doors reform with Cult Vocalist!

Ray Manzarek and Robby Krieger of The Doors have announced plans for a "Doors" reunion show on Sept. 6 at the California Motor Speedway in Los Angeles.

Jim Morrison will naturally be unable to perform as he died over thirty years ago, but nonetheless, Ian Astbury of The Cult will handle the majority of the lead vocals and there will be special guest vocalists and musicians as well.

Drummer John Densmore is also expected to perform, but there is a possibility that his doctor will forbid him from playing. The Doors have already arranged for an alternate drummer to fill in. More info can be found at at the band's official website : http://www.thedoors.com.

This will not be the first time the band have performed under the name "The Doors" since Jim Morrison's death; Two studio albums - "Full Circle" and "Other Voices" - were recorded after his death and have been written out of the history books and the band's official discography on their website. Meanwhile the official website has announced plans to release every remaining Doors performance that was recorded, including rehearsals, demos, and interviews, on CD (and DVD where possible) and several titles are already available to purchase here. (A fool and his money...)

The band plan on touring Europe and the US in Spring 2003 before writing and recording an album of new material. At all costs, forsaking dignity, creativity, common sense, and death, it appears the show must go on.

That's a step down for Astbury...

I know its your opinion etc, but Astbury is a B rate performer at the best of times compared to Jim Morrison. I bet he aint got the bollox to shit himself live on stage!!!!

Jim Morrsion shat hi pants onstage? What a uncivilised pig. This reunion's a travesty. It's "reforming" the band.. like bits of processed meat stuck together to give the appearance of food.

Okay, fair enough, Astbury's not the best vocalist in the world. But I hate the way the Doors are so overrated. It's accepted as a universal truth that the Doors were this fantastic band, when they weren't. "Light My Fire" is a good enough pop song (I prefer Will's version), but everything else is just crap.

Wait a minute. I am a die-hard Doors fan and, in all honesty, when they did their first re-union gig they got in Eddie Vedder and he done a bloody good job. I believe the Doors to be one of THE best bands of all time and always shall... what is sacrilige as the 2 cover versions of Light My Fire performed over the past 2 years by UB40 and Will Young... they are terrible!

Re: Is Nothing Sacred? - Doors reform with Cult Vocalist!

yea u r right, will young should be hung upside down and castrated for butchring light my fire the way he did.....

Will Young

Will Young's version was reminiscent of the cocktail pop direction the Doors took on LA Woman, albeit from a watery waste of human flotsum. It's butchery of the highest blaspheme but similar to what Morrison may have done in humorous mood on, prozac. Not advocating it by the way
