Will it matter? New London venue opens its doors

London's newest live music venue, matter, opens its doors for business on September 19, and has plenty in store for its first six weeks.

Housed within the O2, in North Greenwich, matter is a purpose-built space capable of holding 2,600 punters. Expect: 360 degree visuals and a 'body kinetic dancefloor'. Okay.

Opening the venue's programme will be UNKLE on September 19; support on the night comes from Late Of The Pier and Iglu & Hartley. Carl Cox takes to the decks the following night for the venue's club launch.

What is a 'body kinetic dancefloor?'

Sounds pretty X-Treem.

Reggae?

Line-up so far looks good

But I can't stand these new shiny soulless venues. I saw Junior Boys at the O2 and it was horrible

good to see renaissance haven't gone under

maybe that means my WITC refund will come through soon...

lindstrom are playing

the SMD night, which is also the night before my birthday....so i feel i might need to give it a go.

.

it won't matter

It's a pain in the arse to get to

if you live anywhere west of London.

Paddington to
Astoria/Scala = 15 mins
Shepherds Bush/Hammersmith = 15 mins
Camden/Islington = 20 mins
The O2 = 45-60 mins

.

now you know how it feels for those of us travelling to hammersmith/shepherd's bush from North East/East of London!

UNKLE WITH LATE OF THE PIER?

HOLYSHIZ

will they have the same shit

'you can't smoke anywhere within the grounds and once you've left you can't come back in' policy that the rest of the o2 has?

because if they do, that's gonna fail.

Hold on a second...

Let me get this straight, anyone been to Docklands Arena? You will all know how shit that is to get to and from for gigs.

Millennium Dome? Even more of a pain in the brown starfish.

You have to pre-book a car parking space! totally gash.

On the flip side I know people who have been there for gigs and said the sound is pretty tight.

Haha

fair point!

Don't drive, then.

.... the dome is pretty easy to get to.

it's on the tube. and easily accessible from Overground too (stratford - jubilee - north greenwich)

cos that's totally unheard of!

a venue with a 'no re-entry' policy! the cheek of them!

by docklands arena

is that the same as the london arena? wasn't that knocked down about 5 years ago?

it's not so much no re-entry as

no outdoor smoking area. so you have to actually leave the premises to have a cigarette and you can't get back in. which isn't so fun for a potentially 8 hour clubbing session. therefore lots of people won't go.

Im fairly sure they will have sorted a smoking area

god people like to moan on here

it's daytime, i'm at work

what else is there to do?

also

you're not my dad, are you?

yeah exactly.

i'd say they'll have an outdoor area.

whiney smokers.

James Murphy, eh?

sounds tres cool

Like in Fabric

<has no clubbing flashback>
<sighs>

Most Carling Academys

do this, so it's hardly the most outrageous thing to ever happen.

actually

takes about half an hour from paddington. bakerloo to baker st, then super fast jubilee line.

yeah

I was there last week for Simian Mobile Disco and you could feel the vibrations right up your fricken windpipe, it was almost too much. Good fun though, even though the crowd was rather restless.
