An Epic best-of: Finley Quaye collection out next month

The end of the 1990s were great, yeah? Big Beat and Shine compilations, driving tests and university. Well, that was me anyway. And around the same time, someone allowed Finley Quaye to do pretty okay for himself. Wonders, they truly never cease.
But if you - you - were a fan of the disputed uncle of Tricky, you might want to get The Best of The Epic Years when it's released on July 7. Relive those heady days, hooray!
Or, not. Up to you. Tracklisting:
'Sunday Shining'
'It’s Great When We’re Together'
'Dice'
'Your Love Gets Sweeter'
'Even After All'
'Something To Say'
'Ultra Stimulation'
'Living Without You'
'Spiritualized'
'Maverick A Strike'
'When I Burn Off Into The Distance'
'This Is How I Feel'
'White Paper'
'Hey Now'
'Sweet And Loving Man'
'Burning'
That's 16 tracks from the period 1997-2004, including two top-20 singles. Y'know he won a BRIT Award, right? Crazy days.
the majority of this
is on his debut anyway, currently available in wire baskets at garage across the land for a knock down price.
I use to love Big Beat & Shine Comps
I was way to young to drive though...
Aw mate
Shine Too is how I discovered music- Love will tear us apart, stay together, sparkys dream, girl from mars...
And is this any less ridiculous than the darkness or Libertines 'best of's?
(alright, yes it is...)
who the hell is this guy?
i've sort of vaguely heard of him... none of his albums even have wikipedia pages!!! How can he have earned a best of?!
Is he still claiming to be Tricky's nepher or whatever it was?
Also, I know that DiS is a broad church, but 70% of the readership will be too young to remember him and none of the 30% that do will care!
I care!!
Maverick A Strike was one of the first records I ever bought! good times!
Paulo Nutini
Of 1998???
1st album smash
2nd one Gash!
Paulo could learn something here as is career is set to go the same way as ole' Finley did in the late 90's
Old Viz joke revisted
Save yourself the cost of buying Finley Quaye's Greatest Hits. Just buy a copy of the single Even After All and play it over and over.
this is even more unbelievable than "The Best of Kula Shaker"
and on a par with "Space : Greatest Hits".
I picked up Maverick A Strike for £1 in MVE on Berwick St about five years ago, mainly for use at BBQ's with old friends from school (see also "Bring It On" by Gomez, and "Parachutes" by Coldplay).
I'd imagine this would be available at the majority of charity shops in any given town in the UK for £2 or less.
And aren't about nine of the tracks on this on that anyway?
What next? "The Essential Eagle Eye Cherry"?
Dice
Is actually a beautiful song imo
this all makes me feel very old
I'm the proud owner of 'Whales and Dolphins: The Best of Terrorvision'
I agree
Dice is brilliant. Shame about the rest...
16 tracks!
Jesus H. That's more Finlay Quaye than anyone should ever be exposed to
He is
the most famous black scotsman ever. It's true! Name me another one...
Famous black scots
That bloke from Porridge.
Quaye Geneology
Don't know if there is actually any shared blood, but Finlay shares a surname with Tricky's mam Maxine (thus Tricky's 1st too). Tricky proper hates him though and reckons he got famous off his reputation. He did a b-side muttering some paranoid bile about "taking my mother's name in vain" which is meant to be a song for Finlay.
I might be in a minority here (or just an old old man), but I liked Maverick A Strike and I like his second one too (although I'm stuck for the actual title.)
your love gets sweeter
is an amazing song, its one of those happy-sad songs you would fuckin love to hear when you're painting your living room.
