Spice Girls in reunion tour shock
- Artists:
- Spice Girls »
1990s pop phenomenon the Spice Girls have finally confirmed their return to the world's live arenas.
The five-piece, completed by the acquiescence of a post-hesistant Mel C, found fame in the latter half of the last decade with their perky brand of cod-feminism.
They will begin the tour in LA this December and finish in Argentina past the turn of the new year.
A greatest hits record will be released to cash-in on the publicity surrounding the tour, the dates of which can be found below:
December '07
7 Los Angeles
8 Las Vegas
11 New York
15 London
20 Köln
23 Madrid
January '08
10 Beijing
12 Hong Kong
17 Sydney
20 Cape Town
24 Buenos Aires
Venues are yet to be announced. We'll keep you updated.
Tickets will be allocated by random ballot - reinstated manager Simon Fuller expressing a wish that distribution be fair among the hordes expected to apply.
It's estimated that the 11 dates will earn each girl somewhere around £20m. You do the maff...
Dammit
Mel C said she wouldnt.
Now we have to put up with crap tv shows, newspaper and magazine articles, online articles, and other manner or media shoving our faces in it. God Dammit
the London date
is on my boyfriend's birthday.
He's going to want to go to this.
Oh dear.
So
come January "public reaction was so overwhelming" that they'll suddenly find they have a whole album ready to go?
Also, why call a press conference in advance? What were the realistic chances of Emma mooching in alone, going "yeah, we talked about it but decided not to bother" and pissing off before any questions could be asked?
bf
I was hoping that the reunion tour shock would be a giant electric one that wiped them out...
Stop the madness
please?
If this works as well as the Take That reunion, as opposed to the All Saints one...
...I may just have to kill myself.
I have registered...
...for tickets. I don't care how sad you all think I am. I'm very excited. I was 8 when Wannabe came out.
Hmmmm...
Take That's reunion worked because their songs have stood the test of time as Great Great Pop Songs. You don't cringe when you hear 'Back For Good', but I'm not sure whether the same can be said for 'Wannabe' or 'Mama', no matter how poptastic they sounded 10 years ago.
The Spice Girls were so painfully Of The Now in 1996 that I'm not sure this is the best idea - they were a bit of an embarassment by 1998, unlike Take That, who split up before everyone got sick of them.
And at least 3/5 of them are clearly cunts.
'Spiceworld: The Movie' was ace, mind. Richard E. Grant and Roger Moore's joint 2nd finest hour.
i really really don't care
but is Geri doing it?
Ginger!
What about everyone else?
HOW TO BUY TICKETS
Wanna get tickets?!!?!, you have to register, ballot style on http://www.thespicegirls.com/en/index.html for a chance to buy (Not win) tickets for any of the above stated gigs.
Hope this helps
Regards
Good lord, look at the photo
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/6246448.stm
Victoria's clearly wearing some sort of corset, Geri's become a gypsy, Mel B's turned into Shaznay Lewis and Emma looks like she's trying to struggle free from whatever she's been put in. Mel C looks cool enough but can't smile properly.
God you lot...
get a sense of humour. Why all the negativity? Sure, their tunes won't date as well as Girls Aloud have done, but these guys were a cultural phenomenon.
They ushered in a change in attitude towards / by women, dominated the worldwide pop market, had more number ones than The Beatles and had a laugh doing it.
Their music was never so bad it was truly offensive. Unlike The Kooks...
Let them have their moment. I think its sad that theres only one London date and that the tickets are by lottery, but with a week free all around it maybe "DUE TO EXCEPTIONAL DEMAND" stickers will appear soon and that'll be sorted
Jenleft ...as in Jen_Left from the KK Forums?
Haven't looked in there or the Tangerines one for ages!
They don't matter
Because of this, the ensuing months will see the media filled with talking heads, columnists and others trying to tell you that they matter. They don't matter. Look deep inside yourself. They don't matter.
Yeah but
Who's your favourite?
sorry
but where's the birmingham date on this tour?
They were scarily huge at the time, weren't they?
You couldn't avoid them.
I used to own the first Mel C album AND it was quite good.
Mel C when they did their NME cover
looked laaaaaaaaaaaaarvely.
"You want me to put the cat among the pigeons?
Get a liddle... BLOOD ON THE WALLS?"
:-D
I think it's admirable they held
out so long, given there's £20m for each of them in this.
Girl power, innit!
It's girl power! It's like... GIRL POWER!
So have I
I have "unfinished business", as I never realised they actually split up, so it'll be a chance to indulge my childish pop loving side. Plus I saw them on their last tour, when I was about 10, and it was one of the best shows (as opposed to gigs) that I've ever seen.
fairplay
i think they look a damn site better now than they did when they were at their most popular
More number ones than the Beatles?
On what planet? The Beatles had 17 number 1 singles in the UK. The Spice Girls didnt have that many singles full stop. Plus every main studio album by the Beatles went to number one, only 2 out of 3 of the Spice Girls' albums did.
And how can you talk about Girls Aloud's singles dating? They've been going less than 5 years.
^^ This ^^
Much as I hate Posh Spice in that stupendous irrational way that only exists between normal people and 'slebritee' types who have never done us any actual personal harm......I still can't help finding her oddly sexually alluring.
In spite of the fact that she looks like a Danish Skeletor with a penchant for sunbeds.
oh no
this lot were the bane of my pre-pubescence and it feels like the scars have only just healed up. At least with the way pop music functions nowadays, after the castration of the charts and access to a bigger and better range of music on The World Wide Web, a really annoying band can be massive and still reasonably avoidable, Arctic Monkeys aside.
i just registered.
how fucking hilarious.
somebody up there
said that they don't cringe when they hear 'back for good'. just wanted to point that out.
Great Great Pop Songs
I'll give you Back for Good, but that doesnt warrant a sellout world tour. What does is millions of insane fans still not out of their teen phase, reliving past memories, indulging in their guilty pleasure, etc. much like this Spice Girls tour too.
Also, why are people quoting age as a factor for liking them? I was 10 when they came out, thought they were shit then, still think theyre shit now. Not that I'm moaning like these idiots mind you. Each to their own I say.
Everyone, just chill for fucks sake, its not the end of the world.
well it's
clearly not the end of the spiceworld
HAHA
ten points for you!
i agree with everything you just said
except i like a couple of kooks songs.
this tour will make a lot of people very happy, why begrudge them that you grumpy bastards? ;)
erm
cos they have dated.
its 2007, they split up in like 98 or something (im not quite sure) but that is a long time and i dont think they are as good pop songs as i used to.
but still, let them have their comeback tour, whats the problem?
why all the posh hate?
yeah she pouts in every picture and looks grumpy but by all accounts she's actually supposed to be quite cool and funny in real life.
also i saw her on ant and decs saturday night take-away with those little kids and she came off so well.
i think she's just misunderstood.
Woop
I've never gotten points for anything ever
