Seriously, I'm not missing anything, am I? They really are very bad, right? Yes? Good. If you disagree, the band's debut album Love It When I Feel Like This is out now. The band's MySpace is here.

Really surprised

they're doing Rock City, as their show at Nottingham Trent Uni a few weeks back was apparently nowhere near a sell out, and Rock City holds a good 5-600 more people.

Fucking disgraceful

They're album has JUST this minute come out n they already playing such large venues, I bloody hope they are empty, if they are full I hope everyone there is there to bottle them.

I love that photo

I've never seen a band captured so completely in one image.

Grumble

This means that they'll probably still be around at the end of the year. How disappointing. Are DiS going to do a review of the album? I need a laugh.

Definitely

Please review it just for the sheer comedy value.

Anyway, how old is that man in the photo? I'd say 38 was generous.

yeah

i hate this band a lot.

so, so, so bad.

Imagine the twats in there

Seriously. Nottingham has the worse indie booze boys ever.

I only saw what they looked like

the other day & I was shocked of how old they actually were.

Mickey Loosefit shoudl review this

Mike - I know his email.

fancy that!

The Twang

Played in my town (Derry) a few weeks ago, around 40 people turned up to see them. After a VERY disappointing gig, we were walking out of the venue, when the singer was standing at the door on his own, probably fishing for compliments.

My friend said to him "You're the most exciting thing to come out of Birmingham since UB40" , and the singer said "cheers".

It wasn't supposed to be a compliment.

The record company

wouldn't send DiS a review copy!

The phrase "absolute fucking dogshit" doesn't nearly do how awful they are justice, but it's really satisfying to say out loud. Go on. You'll feel better for it.

I imagine they were young

Lager lads, you know.

Also, I imagined they would make good music if they were that little bit older.

They were fucking shite when I saw them.

haha!

That's tragic.

So..

I’m wondering in my mind how may people will go and watch their headline slot at Glastonbury.
Hopefully none!

Thigs is Mike

no offence here mate, if they are that bad, why are you guys giving them press (for the record I have managed to not hear a single song as yet).

Leeds, surely

???

It's a good point...

...but many people do come here to read the news, and many people who come here do like the Twang. They'll be interested in the dates.

yep

you got that right Kayleia.

loads sadly.

people are sheep. Can you imagine a whole field-load of bank clerks with hoodies singing 'and all I needed was a hug' and getting all emotional together...yeeesh

,,,

can you imagine how bad Glastonbury will be full stop?!?!?!?!!

good lord.

It's a bit harsh to say they're *completely* awful

The guitars are quite nice.
It's just that absolute twat of a singer that completely ruins it.

wrong

Argh that pic makes me

hate them all the more! What a knob shiner.

I saw about half of their set at Middlesbrough Music Live

Half an hour of the most awful, awful sounds I ever heard.

and the artwork

for the album, is utter shite. Rant over.

twanging !!

i saw them support james and thought they were ace .. ok so they act cocky but they did put on a good show, both either way and wide awake are good songs .. maybe they have been overhyped in a lot of ways which makes people make comments like on here

Knob Shiner?

HAHAHAA, great image.

Was he maybe involved in this?

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/4253849.stm

OUCH!

Fucking Hell! I thought that link was going to be to the "Sound of 2007" story.

OK

I really don't mind em. Some of the songs are awful (Cloudy Room springs to mind), but i like Either Way and Two Lovers. Nothing wrong with those tunes at all....nice guitars on them.

Harsh!!

and surely not true!

I agree

I 'lolled' when I first saw it, and every other time I've seen it since.

It's reminiscent of the album covers Pop Idol rejects have, quickly knocked up by people at the record company to try and appeal to the market. An 'urban fox' in a parka. It'll sell sell sell!

THE TWANG ARE...

fucking shit

Average User Rating

2/10

never been to many gigs in Leeds

Everytime I have been to an indie gig in Nottingham, someone pours beer on me!!!

I agree

They're terrible

Quick question...

... why is it that bands shite-gobbling bands get more comments on here than the ones that inspire and excite. Its seems that we all prefer to take a good swipe at the "knobshiners" than bigging up the good stuff. Wierd.

...

just for the record The Twang make me want to smother my first born. And not in a good way.

You must be choosing

the wrong gigs!

I actually think

Cloudy Room - or at least the guitar in the opening couple of minutes - is possibly their only saving grace.

abusers

fat chav dads

with tons of kids and fat wives. thats what they are

Above post

Brilliant.

.

It's scarily surprising how much everybody in Birmingham actually Loves UB40. Thankfully being a mere resident of Brum I don't share in their excitement.

I call them

The Twank.

not big, not clever but then again niether are they

complete and utter rotting gash

and im trying to be complimentary

who the fuck are the wang

where they did they come from and why are they still alive?

i wonder

how many kids he has??? if hes 38 he was probably be able to have kids since he was 13 maybe so if he had one baby every year that would be 25, lets just hope they dont follow in his footsteps.....cos he is a monkey banjo

They headlined the first night...

...at the new Opera House in Bournemouth after it was closed for refubishments. The Proclaimers played shortly afterwards. Not a good start whatsoever.

thats just because

you've come to our nights, which are inhabited by skinhead oasis fans with the shakes.

"'Avin' it"

Who is 'avin' it?: NME
Where are they avin' it?: The Twang's collective arsehole.

actually just listened to them

for the first time.

fucking atrocious.

but i do like them writing *SOLD OUT* next to two gigs on their calender... t in the park and glasto... shows they can't sell out anywhere on their own for shit!

roffle.

that is true...

& my boyfriend is there and he uses my head as a pint holder.

IT ALL MAKES SENSE NOW

in reply to the above

That will be why every show on the last tour sold out then won't we? Just because you don't like them doesn't mean noone else does. I would have thought that the Twangs album being number three in the charts would have hinted that some people do actually like them.

well enjoy them while they're here...

cos all being well they'll have crawled back under the rock they came from by this time next year

I didnt say I wanted to enjoy them

Just get bored of the self justification that goes on here! The fact is they are selling out shows and people love them. You dont like them, so what? They are hardly there to appeal to the average DIS or NME reader are they? Its normal blokes who drive vans and fix your house when its fucked taht they appeal to. Just live with it and move on.

well

i had no idea the other tour sold out, but now i am enlightened and feel much better for it.

glad to hear it

^^^^^^^

ssshhhh

they shouldn't be, here, there or anywhere at all. they really fucking suck.
they just get plugged by bloody jo whiley and co all day, so as you say people who 'drive vans and fix houses' buy their dogshit record.

^^^^^^^^^^

So you have a problem with those people?

can i listen to it

if i fix vans and drive houses?

Except

the whole of the other tour didn't sell out, as I stated at the start of this post re: the previous Nottingham date.

you are wrong

Nottingham sold out.

no

but generally people who are driving in a van on their way to fix peoples houses might be listening to radio 1.

No it didn't.

There may have been numerous "complimentary" tickets dished out, but I can assure you it didn't sell out, and I have this on pretty good authority.

Trust me

It did...and I can prove it to you and make you look stupid.

The Twang

I would rather lick piss off nettles than listen to the twang.

the twang

have had two top 10 singles i think, maybe two top 15's, i can't quite remember...is it really such a suprise they're playing these venues?? you lot may not like them but they're a big band now and are gonna get bigger...have you heard two lovers???....and will not dissapear in the next year like most of you seem to think, if you continue to insist that then you are wrong...you are all bell ends

i think it's stranger that arcade fire are playing manc men than the twang are playing brixton

fuck off cunts

sorry

and a top 3 album to boot

x

pricks

alright Twang members dad,

do. Even if you're right, you'll be oh-so wrong.

.

I fail to see the relevance in pointing out chart posistions to prove how good a band supposedly are. A high slot in the charts is no reward to the fans its a reward to the band and the fans may only use it to counter the arguements that said band are shit. In this case the Twang. I couldnt care less if they got to number 3 in the charts you have a bunch of guys who take themselves too seriously. These bands do get to these posistions in the chart but a music lover who has been through the depths of genres will instantly identify that the Twang are blodey terrible.

Put it this way go to their gig and talk to members of the audience. Guarenteed the majority all left school at the age of 16. Its easy to sell out venues when you appeal to working class. So they can fuck off if they think this tour will add to their commercial merit to better massage their egos. Especially when they are probably robbing their working class fan base the price of an overpriced ticket.

that is priceless

nice one pal

Its easy to sell out venues when you appeal to working class.

is my fav bit
x

also

i dont think the twang are amazing, i think they have some great songs and some not so great songs, i just dont think they deserve the shit they get on here

and this thread is a reaction to the size venues they've announced for their next tour, so i'm afraid is directly linked to their chart posistions so far, that's how booking agents work, you fucking narrow minded tool

x

.

Theres nothing narrow minded about my point of view. If you feel the need for insults go flame the NME forum. They are likely to agree with you on there.

Your really exhausting your efforts here. If you look at the bands DIS is in favour of in the reviews section you wont find much appreciation for the Twang. If you have a bit of a guilty pleasure for the Twang try and restrain yourself from lashing out just because you enjoy a few of their songs and feel it as a personal insult on your music taste.

On the subject of the venue sizes its quite clear that yes your right this probably is a booking agent working on dates relevant to their sales. But the Twang wont be around to play at this level for much longer. This will be their peak. Its probably the last effort to draw a bit more money out of their target audience. They are not a band who will last forever.

Superman..

Your arguments are rude and have no point. Nobody gives a fuck how popular TT are with idiots who listen to what they are told to listen to or want some pathetic reincarnation of the worst that britpop had to offer. It's my opinion that they are shit. If you don't like it you don't have to go far to find people who disagree.

You're so see through, you've made that comment about 'liking some songs and not others' before. Why don't they deserve the 'shit' they get on here? What they definitely don't deserve is the stupid over-exposure they have received, blanket radio play and DJs telling the world how great they are with one hand taking a wad of money and the other hand with crossed fingers behind their back.

You are quite clearly either a member of the band, their manager or a family member. Are you worried that your reviews are turning shit? The best reviews I have seen have described you as mediocre. How sad. I'd get back in touch with the HP sauce factory, they might still have a job for you.

Then "prove it"

, as I'll take greater pleasure in proving otherwise.

Indeed

This band is truly awful.

this is classism ^^^^^

Another example of being rude to people just because you don't understand their culture. You think working class people buy any old shite? You are a bigot! You shoudl be ashamed!

No redeeming features

whatsoever.

amazingly naive

So the fact that the twang album went top 3 last week means that they are not going to be around for long does it?
I would have guessed that it means they are going to have an incredibly successful record and are buidling a huge fan basse. It might not be a fan base of people who read this website but I can bet it is incredibly passionate and loyal. Actually if you looked at the facts instead of letting your irrational hatred guide you then you would note that they probably share an audience with the likes of oasis, kasabian, stereophonics etc and you will also note that those bands tend to keep their fanbase as they are not fashion led and at the whim of the vagueries that go with it!

Still waiting

Mr Proofman...

cant you deal with the fact

that people might actually like the twang? Why is someone an idiot because they like music different to you? Bigotry again!
Not liking them is fine but making value judgements about teir audience is sinister in the extreme!

Dom - you are a prick

I have the ticket figures for the whole tour - the only show that didnt sell out was newcastle (and that was close). The saleable capacity of the venue in Nottingham was 1000 people and the show sold 1000 tickets in advance of the show. This is what is called a sell out! Idiot!
As you live in Nottingham you could go and check with the promoters of the show if you dont believe me and they will confirm the information. Or check with the bands booking agent. He could also confirm.
But instead you choose to beleive your mates or some other nonsense. Please check your facts before you make yourself look stupid again.

see above you muppet

now apologise please

to be honest, you ae the one who looks stupid

as you're the one who is such a mega fan of the twang, you know which dates they sold out.

Stupid is a mild word, tragic is more like it.

or maybe its just my job to know?

and I am not a fan of the Twang -I don't like their music. But they do sell tickets and have an audience (Which is the point of this thread).

You are stupid to think I know because I am a fan -stop making judgements you bigots!
I know because my job gives me access to the figures!

maybe

people at raduo one like it as well?? it is a possibility?

Wow

You're pretty rude. In response to your comments, yes it is a surprise that they're playing these size venues, because they've only been around for a few months and they've only just released their album. Oh, and they're shit. But that's just my opinion I suppose.

They will disappear, because they are a fad and fads always fizzle out. The only bands that survive fads are the ones with the talent, and I have seen nothing in The Twang that isn't being done 100 times better by others already. If I continue to insist this I am a bellend? Sounds like the petulant ramblings of someone who knows they're wrong to me.

And as for Arcade Fire playing the big stadiums, I don't think anyone who reads these forums likes that idea, but I suppose it means that their audience has grown. They have become bigger because of their musical prowess, which is far more than I can say for that whingey Brit-pop nonsense.

See above for what?

I don't see any proof that a gig which clearly DID NOT sell out did sell out, as you were supposedly going to prove to me!
Unless you've written it in some invisible code that can only be viewed by yourself.

Dom you are a fucking knob

cant you read?
I have just told you the facts - go and check them as I have suggested.
Promoter - you know who they are so go and check.
Agent - Steve Zapp at International Talent Booking. Check with him.

Stop being an idiot.

Why are you defending them then?

There's no point - they're terrible

oh and

we don't care either

you do

and you keep replying so you must.

I don't see any evidence

or facts, just some dickhead posting on here under a pseudonym who doesn't even know the capacity of the venue in question! (1100 for your information).

The gig DID NOT sell out.
People were still paying on the night.
The room was three quarters full at best and their PR people literally couldn't GIVE tickets away for that show (I should know, I was offered 4 myself and turned them down).

You, Ilikemusic, whoever you are, need to go and do a bit of research my friend before you make your next post on here...

yes, they are idiots

ilikemusic: "idiot" is probably too mild a term to describe anyone who appreciates lines like: "What was I doing with that milf? My chin is exhausted, man it was time for filth."

I prefer the description "absolute fucking bone-headed cretin." This could equally be applied to those who base their music taste on the recommendations of Edith Bowman and the N**. Thank you.

I'm waiting for some

facts ilm, something which you seem incapable of giving me.

like i said - you are a prick

Find out your facts -
The saleable capacity was 1000 people. There was a guestlist predecided when deals are done between agent and promoter.
In addition record labels give their PR people tickets - this is what happens at every major gig! These do not have anything to do with the saleable capacity of a gig.

I thought you wanted to be a writer Dom? YOu are looking like an amateur. If you want to know the facts ask the people who booked the show or promoted it. Just because a PR person tries to give you a ticket doesnt mean a show isnt sold out.

The show was sold out. FACT. I ahve told you where to check my information. PLease go and check and then come and post and tell me if I am wrong. I am NOT. I have told you where to go to check. Just because you cant be arsed doesnt mean I am wrong.
You are a fucking idiot!

you are

really quite horrible. shame.

The gig did not

sell anywhere near 1000 tickets, and anyone who tells you it did is a liar.

Dom I have answered the question

and told you where you can check your facts. I know. I ahve seen the 1000 tickets sell.
All you are offering me is lame hearsay and no facts.
I am bored of repeating myself. I have told you where to check and like I said if you cant be bothered stop moaning.
Go check with the agent and promoter and then come back and apologise for being wrong. Please.

WHy?

For pointing out that someone is wrong?

The agent doesn't sell

tickets ilm, he books the tour.

this thread shows the dark side of DiS

IMHO this thread doesn't do DiS any favours - most regular readers of this site probably don't like the twang, we're not their "target market" and we know it.
some of us probably find the band's music derivative/bad enough to rile us, and can justify why this is the case.
i just don't think there's any excuse for some of the mindless comments made in this thread, from a community of people who are generally pretty tolerant and liberal.
although most of the culpable posts have been made by people who don't post all that regularly, the danger of an open forum like this is that a few dodgy posts could come to (mis-)represent the views of the site and the people who use it.
yes, the twang are rubbish, yes we are passionate enough to care, but let's be reasonable about how we tell people that.

yes but

he keeps an eye on tickets and does the settlement on behalf of the band. He knows the final ticket count as does the promoter. Go and check. Please!

thank the lord

A reasonable post.
Agree with everything you have said.
People's views here were becoming embarrassing. If the same comments that have been made here about class had been made about race or gender there would have been uproar. Some people need to take a look at themeselves and their opinions. Thanks for the post myothercarsajag.

The final ticket count

also includes tickets sent to the press, PR company, record label and guest list.
B-Unique will pay for this, so in terms of the agent's fee, whether that be a guaranteed sum or percentage of takings, this part is already covered.

As for checking with one of the promoters, who do you think my source of information is?!?

Acting like oiks

and singing songs littered with the word "fuck" about kicking your next door neighbour's head in does not constitute class, or any form of it in my book. Thanks.

showing your ignorance again

You havent checked. Like I said go and fucking check and stop trying to prove you are right with no facts.
The show sold all the tickets that were saleable. No tickets were left unsold.
I saw how many tickets were sold and have told you how to check. I was also at the show. I know I am right.
I probably share your opinion about the band musically but I dont like snide comments that are factually wrong. Come back to me when you can deal with the fact that teh show was sold out. Email Steve Zapp and find out. I have told you where to go to find out.

are you really that stupid?

Read all the above and then try to demonstrate you are not stupid.

My point is very reasonable thank you

I was commenting that why on earth shouldn't people be angry about the Twang and express it here when they are inescapable elsewhere in the media. I actually care about cultural development and society and the Twang are (a) a massive, depressing step backwards in popular music in this country, and (b) a ridiculous characature of the 'working classes' created by their marketing to appeal to 'the man in the van'. That's not prejudice on my part! That's clearly what they and their PR are trying to achieve. Their music is a poor copy of baggy era shite appealing to men who want to regain some sense of youth, drink 12 pints and have a fight. It shouldn't be like that. There are hundreds of incredible ground-breaking bands in this country far more deserving of the attention. This is music that shouldn't have got out of the back room of the local pub. That's not a fact, it's my opinion. But why oh why shouldn't I express it? It is not unreasonable.

There is no point trying to

argue with unreasonable people.
You know I'm right ilm, deal with it.

They are the facts

The gig DID NOT sell out.
Any shortfall on sales would be met by the record label.
You know it, I know it, so stop trying to let a good myth get in the way of real facts.

Or maybe you're too stupid to understand?

man Dom you are thick!

What the hell are you talking about?
Tickets are sold by a promoter. In this case 1000 of them. The record label buy some of them to give to PR, pluggers, retail etc and a guestlist is allocated to the bands playing. The rest of the tickets are sold to the public up to the legal capacity of the room. I repeat all available and saleable tickets wre sold. I saw the ticket figures and the settlements and was also at the show. It was fucking sold out and fucking packed. Stop being an idiot!

see above

an unreasonable man who despite being given evidence to the contrary insists he is still right.

Except I've not

been given any evidence, just the conjectured outpourings of some dickhead using a pseudonym on an internet forum attempting to justify his extremely weakened argument.

Wrong.

childish too

Go check and stop being stupid

idiot

dont you think been given the place to check your facts is a good argument.

WHo did you talk to about it apart from your dumbfuck mates?

Childish!!!!

Let's examine the facts here shall we?
You lose an argument, so you call someone else a prick, stupid, thick and any other insult you can drag into the equation.
You won't (daren't) even disclose your real name, or who you are in relation to the band.
I think you're the one that needs to grow up a little ilm.

Clever boy

Carry on with the insults, it really strengthens your lost argument somewhat!

try answering the question?

I backed my argument up with people you could ask and check with.
Please back your argument up with someone I could check with. A name would be useful?

duh

Try answering the question.

Don't make me laugh!!!

You haven't even disclosed your own name ffs!

Who are you????

Repeat that again....what are you scared of?

no but i told you

who to contact to find out your answer didnt I?

Have you checked yet?

answer the question

cant you answer?

Like I said earlier

I've made it perfectl clear to you that the gig did not sell it. Everyone else seems to understand bar you. I think you need to learn to read or something, y'know, get a grasp of the English language. It might even improve the quality of your insults.

Who are you????

What are you scared of ilm?

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

"...did not sell out"

i like the way

you are avoiding the issue.
My name is matt. I am involved with live music.

can you two conduct this via PM

and then come back with the results when you've finished?

can i make this any clearer

I have evidence that the gig sold out.
You have hearsay.

The people to ask are the bands booking agents and promoters. I know that both will tell you it sold out.

I have told you who the booking agent is. Go and ask him. Its easy.

Have you asked him yet?

Who have you asked?

I've made my point

yes

we get it, you think it sold out, ilm doesn't. Neither has provided proof of this, although ilm has instructed how to get proof it did sell out.

Can it end now? The comments under this news story are embarrassing enough as it is.

you seem to think repeating something eneough makes it true

where is your evidence dom? It is a simple question?

I have told you where mine is.

agent and promoter

think it sold out. Promoter paid out on a sold out show. Gurantee plus break after costs.

but the Twang are fashionable.

Recent trends have been favourable towards thug rock, "pioneered" by Kaiser Chiefs and Kasabian, the second shit wave being the Fratellis, the View et al. This is unfortunately very comparable to the fag end of Britpop, when record contracts were thrown by an increasingly desperate industry at any four numb-headed lads who could pick up a guitar and a tinnie at the same time.

The Twang are the logical end. I suspect we'll see "indie" collapse in on itself in the next few years, and be replaced by some other genre in the hearts of the mainstream music consumer. As for the Twang themselves, put it this way, have you heard much from Hurricane #1 of late?

christ alive

Why does class always get involved with bands like this? The Twang are shit, the majority of people are stupid. That's it.

^ this times a million

I'm just speechless. That argument is the single most retarded thing i've encountered on this forum, standing out as a beacon of shitness even in the embarrassment-fest that is this comments section.

Neither party came out of it looking good but i have to say Dom didn't do himself proud. I don't know ilikemusic from Adam, but i'd expect a contributor to behave a bit more reasonably and not get involved in a pathetic slanging/pissing match over something so pointless. Although i'm guessing ilm's noob status might have had something to do with it.

In general, i find the attitude to The Twang on this website quite sinister. I honestly don't give 2 fucks about them, heard their song on the radio once and it really didn't stand out at all. But it seems as though they're some sort of whipping boy that everybody can pile on top of and show no mercy to. Fair enough if you hate the Twang, i'm sure there's plenty of people who could tell me a number of reasons why they suck. But many people just see a chance to really lay into something without fear of reprisal. So they fucking murder it.

And the class issue which comes up time and time again is particularly worrying. Its as if many people project their fear and distrust of "the lower classes" onto something as inane as a throwback lad-rock band. We get it, they probably don't deserve the exposure they're getting when your favourite emo-post rock-gameboy noise band gets none. Big fucking deal, like thats never happened before. Just give it a rest on The Twang already

hehe

I'm going to ask Steve Zapp next time I see him.

To Dom and the other idiot...

PEDANTIC tw*ts

pfft

you cant call someone an idiot for liking a band you hate.

Hmm

One thing's still bothering me, did they sell out in Nottingham or not?

You're right

I shouldn't have continued an argument on here over something so pointless as The Twang's alleged ticket sales, but the fact remains that they aren't as big as their "team" want people to believe they are, and although it could be argued that technically their shows do sell out, that is only because the record label make up the shortfall between actual sales and projected sales, therefore ensuring that as far as the promoter and agent are concerned, they do not end up out of pocket.
What that means is, that while certain venues - Nottingham being one as an example - may have been under-capacity on the evening of the show, the actual revenue would still have been the same as far as the agent or promoter is concerned as if it were sold out.
And yep, that's pretty pedantic, but more to the point, bloody accurate!

In all my time

I have never read a thread quite this hilarious.

'You can buy a can of baked beans for 32p from Morrisons'

'No you can't, it's clearly 33'

'Yes it IS 32, I checked'

'But everyone knows it isn't'

'Check your fucking facts, here's the number of your local Morrisons'

'Fuck off'

'Trust you to bring class into it'
