For those who don't know, Emily Haines is the iconic front-woman of Metric and the voice of some of Broken Social Scene's finest moments. For those about to google we do warn you there there are also rather a lot of scary blogs and photogroups dedicated to her. The piano-laden album, her first solo album Knives Don't Have Your Back, is released next week (June 4th) via Drowned in Sound with three additional bonus tracks not included on the US release.
Don't just take our word for Knives... being "the good" - especially as we're probably members of the GayForEmilyHaines blog-group or something - and not meaning to get all press releasy on yo asses, we assure you it's good via the medium of the reaction to the record from elsewhere... _
"Brilliant"_ remarked the Sunday Times. _"File next to: Sylvia Plath, Laura Nyro, Thom Yorke, Elliot Smith,"_ said the Guardian here. NME raved "this is haunting, indie-folk par excellence... beautiful!" Even the our hard to please friends over at Pitchfork said nice things like "Knives starkly places Haines' vulnerabilities on view. It's a brave move that trumps her usual combative cleverness with Metric."
Her first European solo tour starts next week:
MAY 30 - Oran Mor, Glasgow (UK)
MAY 31 - Club Academy, Manchester (UK)
JUN 01 - Glee Club, Birmingham (UK)
JUN 02 - Bush Hall, London (UK)
JUN 03 - Homefires, London (UK)
JUN 05 - Lido, Berlin (DE)
JUN 06 - Upstairs at the Paradiso Amsterdam (NL)
JUN 07 - Botanique/Rotonde, Brussels (BE)
JUN 08 - La Maroquinerie, Paris (FR)
JUN 09 - Rote Fabrik, Zurich (SW)
JUL 25 - Harbourfront, Toronto (ON)
