Blood Red Shoes bored by the seaside, so tour some more
Blood! Red! Shoes! New single! And tour!
You may remember last year DiS banging on about a two-some called Blood Red Shoes. The more savvy of you may remember their last single 'You Bring Me Down' which was released in November via some label called Drowned In Sound. Here be news of a follow-up and more shows...
You'd think their names were "Hotly" and "Tipped" if you'd read the press or heard the radio lately but they're called Steve and Laura-Mary, it's just the two of them that make glorious clattering disco under the name Blood Red Shoes. They've left DiS for the pastures of V2, who will release a brand new single called 'It’s getting Boring By The Sea' on Monday 11th June. The single will be available from all good digital download stores and as a strictly limited edition 1000-only seven-inch vinyl.
And being partial to a bit of touring, they're heading out on the road again, catch 'em if you can...

it's crazy
they are now signed to V2 and look to be getting massive. It seems like yesterday when they were playing first on at the Spreadeagle. I guess it's a testament to hard work, solid touring, good songs and having a hot singer.
drummer
wears way too much make up!
good songs, yes
hot singer, double yes.
but
they are really rubbish!
and really annoying.
really.
Wash your mouth out
with AIDS.
ARGH!
no longer playing great escape, how much does that suck?!
music aside
I've never met anyone who holds themselves in such high regard. Competitive scenesters, who seem to think they're above it all.
^
a lot, lineup doesn't take much of a hit without them tho, just means one less clash :P
when i've met them
they've been completely the opposite. lovely people.
(to neil_mac)
what? They seem the complete opposite - nice people, down to earth and pretty honest about the fact that they just want to be in a band. I'm pretty sure they don't claim their music is ground-breaking or anything.
Christ, the realms of being a jealous indie kid. Must be a dark life.
i
disagree with this.
scenesters?
just because they make music which isn't self-indulgant and has hooks, don't be confused.
they're both lovely too. often a little giddy on red wine but you won't meet two people doing it more for the right reasons. they love music, they make music, they'd love to make a long-lasting living making music.
thats funny
calling steven formerly of cat on form and someone who sings blur songs in soundcheck a scenester!
They're not that good
Now that they're no longer signed to DiS, can we expect a drop off in sycophancy?
Somehow I think now alas.
Somehow I think not alas
Was what I meant to say. Why can't we re-edit posts on here I wonder?
sorry if that sounded harsh perhaps
i'm just jaded by their recent PlayMusic interview, which really did make them out like that.
where is this interview?
any chance of posting a link?
Interested to know what constitutes being a competitive scenester nowadays.
Super nice people...
Super good band. Have you heard that guitar live? MEAN. P.S. Owen Richards rules! wooooo.
neil_mac
other people have said it, but you are very wrong.
Steve can be a bit blunt, and sometimes his opinions are a bit strong/misplaced but he's a top bloke really - just means he's honest rather than totally false like a lot of people in bands. My band is just getting off the ground, and he's been a big help, letting us move into their rehearsal room and offering advice at every juncture.
I wish them every success!
i was
lucky enough to catch them at the camden crawl this year - it was the first time i heard them an i thought they were really vibrant and exciting and wonderful. Also, their sound guy is awesome. i can't wait to see them again, true story.
x
enough
No melody, no originality in either drums vocal or guitar....
Very poor song with poor production and structure, totally bland.
A testament to everything that is wrong with indie music today.
They must be damn good at networking.
Why are they even being discussed and written about on these boards. Surely this is the sort of bland band that the NME would write about
stephen
skopje
is awesome and very correct
wow
what a bitter and vicious little wanker. i hope i'm not stressed out and mean like that when i have my midlife crisis.
so you're the person who reads playmusic
i've never even seen a copy of it but have seen adverts and their logos around places.
They're playing this gig in may too...
with my band, as special guests for a music week/barfly/red strip bash. not sure how long the set will be, but it's free and being filmed and that.
see the linky...
http://www.hairmusic.co.uk/UserFiles/Image/flyers/redstripe.gif
they are well photogenic no doubt...
but I haven't got my head out my flyer posting arse to listen properly yet. probably should.
it's quite cool the haters are out in force
because a band knows they've got somewhere when pricks on the internet start slagging them off.
hmm
normally that would probably be true but i saw them ages ago when no-one knew who they were anyway and didn't like them
They're two normal fucking people
they're not up their own arse. They are wowed by other bands they like. Steven is as blunt as the blunt boy next door, and both are a good influence on each other. Two people who wont take any shit and that speak their mind when it doesn't hurt people they care about. Just coz James Jam is doing the rounds on them doesnt mean they're still not a great, hard working, underground band.
hmm.
whenever i've spoken to steve i have found him to be totally brill to speak to. though he did slag off sandinista! by the clash - and thats harsh.
wohooo!
wow i just found this and read through it all (yeah okay a month late, i know)....it is quite fascinating to read different impressions on how we come across. especially as we're the first people to slag other bands for being stuck up or scenester-ish.
my favourite bit has to be "A testament to everything that is wrong with indie music today.", it even sounds like something i'd say! except for we're not an indie band and i mostly hate indie music, except for blur.
long live the internet!
