FAO Bono: "Shut the f*ck up about Africa"
Noel Gallagher, self-nominated spokesman for the people, has laid into Bono advising him to: "Play 'One', shut the fuck up about Africa".
He also took the opportunity to dole out some pointers to Radiohead. Addressing frontman Thom Yorke, Noel felt moved to impart these wise words:
"Thom Yorke sat a piano singing, 'This is fucked up' for half-an-hour. We all know that, Mr Yorke.
"Who wants to sing the news? No matter how much you sit there twiddling, going, 'We're all doomed,' at the end of the day people will always want to hear you play 'Creep'. Get over it."
Noel disclosed all this to the NME, next week's edition of which, interestingly enough, is an Oasis souvenir special. Two words: 'Bleeding' and 'Edge'.
And no, before you get all witty up in this grill, U2's guitarist hasn't gone all fists of fury in defence of his bandmate.

he used to be occasionally amusing at least
here he just comes across like a 14 year old stating the obvious who thinks he's saying something amazingly original
liam gallagher is little better than
donny tourette but with more hits. i'm surprised at noel, he always seemed the reasonable one.
I think these are both reasonable things to say
boring, but reasonable
Noel is about as funny as Jim Davidson
Liam isn't as funny as Jim Davidson.
should i swear a little?
that was probably a reasonable comment.
needless, but reasonable.
how go things, jez?
Gallagher in "slags of other muso"
Publicity.
Fucking
Shocker...
"everyone wants to hear creep"
No... YOU want to hear creep.
What a fucker.
"who wants to sing the news?"
who wants to sing the same tired bar-band cliches you've been trotting out your entire career? fucking idiots, thats who
incidentally, the same sort of people who would want yorke to sing creep over his other, much better stuff
"i heard the news today, oh boy...."
Fan of "Day in a life" Noel?
OH THE IRONY!!
Creep
is quite a crap song.
he is indeed
Thom yorke is busy persuading us he's not part of "the machine", whilst noel probably just doesn't care
anyone noticed that the singles from the eraser just sound like amnesiac, but bad?
a 1 2 3
heeeey ly-la!
that song sucked.
no...wait...noel
force of habit
I fucking love Noel Gallagher. He is the wittiest person alive at the moment.
His Northern dryness just edges him ahead of Amstell in the 'Most Hilarious People In The World' race.
Yeah but.
At the end of the day, he's filthy rich, he's made two of the greatest albums of all time, and he's still absolutely raking it in, by flogging those albums to death on stadium tours.
If I'm in half as good a position as Noel is when I'm his age, I will be over the fucking moon.
So basically: Noel wins.
he thinks he's about a billion times
funnier and more insightful than he really is. or that he's some kind of man of the people. when actually he's just shit.
actually...Bono loses
Thom yorkes made four of the greatest albums of all time, and i couldnt care less if he plays creep or not. so he doesnt have to listen to Noel. Bono just fucks about pretending to help africa. And has Joshua tree, and thats about it.
its like paper scissors rock.
Twat.
The full interview was in the Telegraph today.
A couple of choice quotes:
"I've never been interested in pushing music forwards" (after saying how he thinks music is too eclectic and everyone should only listen to one type of music)
"I dare say that every new band that matters over the past few years has named Oasis as an influence" (referring to this year's other Brit nominees)
And he also says that their band's early message was about how "everything's shit" (half a page after slagging off Yorke for doing the same thing).
Yeah, but...
he says "bands that matter", he doesn't say mainstream indie bands.
Shirley the bands that matter are the ones that push forward music in some way, as they're the ones that actually make a difference to music as a whole?
Rather than just bands who sells loads?
C. E. F. Fminor.
SOD OFF, WORLD
Turns out I
quite like Noel really. And its all thanks to Russell Brand.
2 months ago, who'd a fucking thunk it. I'm listening to Russell Brand and Noel Gallagher having a conversation and I'm not gouging my eardrums out with freshly sharpened HBs. No, I'm laughing to myself on the tube and everyone around me thinks I'm mad as a bag of whippets.
THANKS NOEL
THANKS A LOT
Reg
Funny you should compare Gallagher to Elton John. Saves me the effort, I suppose.
ok worked it out....
now if not sure if I am supporting a bad cause or a band band
Shut up Noel
Shut up.
Fact is: life is boring if everything is the same. I like Radiohead. I like Blink 182. It would be boring if all bands were 'humourous'. Boring if all were political. Boring if every band was lecturing us. Boring if everyone told us we shouldn't care.
So as much as Oasis do nowt for me these days, they make a lot of people happy and there's room for that. Why people can't let some people do what they do, whilst getting on with their own lives, is beyond me. I actually admire Bono. With all the money he makes, he could just tour/record/tour/record and live like a king. To be so unafraid of ridicule when you're in that position is admirable.
So yeah, shut up Noel. And if you make a record as good as your first again, I might even start listening.
I am fed up, though, of every time Noel gives an interview, reading that people "don't like the music anymore but like the interviews". They are celebrating the don't care/don't read books/buy the tabloids generation, and that's nothing worth celebrating. Is it funny? Perhaps in a sick, pointless way. But we have comedians to be funny. Go see them if you need a laugh. Stop feting someone who's contributed nothing of value in well over 10 years. I guess they didn't get offered a support slot on the Vertigo tour or summat.
at least
...they have something in common; flogging a dead horse.
Theyre all shit
Oaisis, radiohead, U2. Theyre'l all boring, with the excpetion of a couple of good tunes (except U2).
noel is like....
... that guy who was minister for disinformation guy who worked for saddam hussein making stupid statements that everyone ignores.
oasis and totally irrelevant to anyone with taste these days anyway. they made fashionable music that died with the time.
People may have ignored their integrity...
but boy did we laugh! As we do when the Gallaghers open their mouths, because they're funny. Also, anything said against St.Bono is worth column inches in my book...
i am biting my lip.
BITING MY LIP
can people stop pretending he's funny.
I went and saw Josie Long last night, she's a comedian, she was funny. genuinely funny.
Noel occasionally generates a wry half-smile, but then when i'm chatting with my mates i get more humour than that.
He's not funny.
Blame the twats that interview him.
I'm sure Noel wouldnt mind giving a different perspective.
BIG "BUT"
Really, no one wants to hear Bono shout his mouth off about the Third World during a gig. We came to see you sing songs Mr Bono, not for a fucking lecture on Global Politics you uppity twat.
Yes, I do want Thom to play creep rather than twiddling on singing political nonsense. Play Creep, Play Just, just stop moaning about shit for christs sake
Plus
theres too much of this political nonsense getting into music. Fine, do live aid/8, good, now stop fucking about. You are not lawyers, you are not financial geni, you are fucking musicians.
I can't believe...
that people still even listen to what this smug, pub humoured twat has to say about modern culture. The bands he has championed over the past few years, not including his own band of old man, pub function room "rock 'n roll, haven't exactly brissled with pant wetting quality. I remember him saying "Black Rebel Motorcycle Club are the best I have heard in years!" !!?? the fact he is still seen as an ambassador of British pop music makes me want to shit!!
the only funny thing ever about oasis.....
..... them pretending to be musicians.
sorry, the other thing thats funny is, if you watch any programme in the states with noel on it, they put subtitles on when he speaks.
i challenge you
to a duel
Creep is freaking awesome. Fact
Shouldnt
Opinions matter, not everyone has the same taste in music, and yeah, i'd rather go see him and the head do Creep than listen to Eraser.
But, at home i would rather listen to Eraser.
open letter to Noel
Shut the fuck up about everything, concentrate more on your craft than hanging out with royals and movie stars, you are not fit to eat Thom's toenail cheese.
I would rather listen to Pat Boone than any Oasis album.
same thing
really
is that actually true?
really? ive seen shane macgowan subtitled about a bit, but even the irish have to do that.
Who cares?
It was funny and I laughed. But I couldn't give a shite what Gallagher thinks of Bono or Yorke or vice versa.
where's the fire?
whats wrong with wanting to help out in a difficult situation?
