We wanna get loaded... like Godlike Geniuses

In a move regarded as "a joke" by at least one DiSser, Primal Scream are to be awarded the Godlike Genius award at this year's Shockwaves NME Awards.
Me, I quite liked Vanishing Point. Used to play it in my car. My mum didn't like it, much.
The band will collect their award on March 1. Of the news, singer/stickman/old dude Bobby Gillespie commented:
"About fucking time, we've known it for years. It's a great honour to get the same award as a band like The Clash."
NME editor Conor McNicholas added:
"Everyone at NME is really looking forward to welcoming Primal Scream as the Godlike Geniuses at this year's awards. No one parties like Primal Scream. They're a band who have had a massive influence on our scene.
"Our awards are the last big event at the legendary Hammersmith Palais before it's reduced to rubble. Primal Scream may just do that before the bulldozers even get there."
DiS is up for an award, too! Click here.

I take it
The View aren't yet eligible.
I just
sprayed coffee across my screen after reading this story.
I expect NME to give me an award for it.
"our scene"???
didn't he edit a dance magazine before nme?
i'm shocked he hasn't got his rag to diss primal scream at all. they have existed for a decade so can't be young, cool and fresh.
They want to sort out the name of that award
It's clearly meant to sound wacky and zany but it makes them sound like cunts.
It reminds of Colin Hunt off the fast Show.
Fucking crap.
They're so shit.
Ian Brown was worthy.
These pricks aren't.
arctic monkeys turned it down then
also see their utterly evil James Brown tribute issue, somehow it just felt WRONG, you know?
well who should it go to then...?
Errr....
They are worthy, although they are dicks (Gillepsie especially). Actually thinking about it, Mani's not a dick - he seems pretty down to earth. He was on a regional fishing program up hear a while ago. 'spect.
Seriously though Screamadelica is an absolute beauty. I also adore Giver out... and xtrmtartmxtrxtmxr was one of the best albums of 2000(?) So yes, they do deserve it. Shut up.
I really like Primal Scream
but I would not describe them as geniuses.
They're good
but some of the credit has to go to Weatherall/Shields/Lynch
god like
genius ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha NME ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha AWARDS!! ha ha ha ha ha ha ha oh why is that funny??? oh yeah godlike genius ha ha ha ha ha nonsense
to be fair
they have changed their sound quite a lot over the years. most of the changes have been from shit to shite, but you have to give them that
the most ludicrous part of the article is the 'massive influence on our scene'. what, they made rock music vaguely danceable. thus they fit in with our 'new-rave' blanket of wank. thus we shall cynically make them our 'godlike geniuses' this year. i let out an earth-shaking shudder when i read that sentence
shit
"No one parties like Primal Scream. They're a band who have had a massive influence on our scene."
shame the music' so shit then
xtrmntr =
only good thing they ever released.
to otaku_taco...
WTF??? I mean, WTFF? You can level a few things at the 'Scream but claiming they write the same song over and over again suggests to me you've probably not heard much of their stuff...
Early shit = completely different to Scremadelica = polar opposite to Give out... = nothing like Vanishing Point = a lot unlike Xtrmntr = 'is this the same band' to Riot City Blue. (i missed out evil heat as that was the worst album ever and adds nothing to my argument)
I don't think they can be called Godlike Genii
but I think Primal Scream have produced some great music.
Screamadelica, Vanishing Point and Xtrmntr have some fantastic music on. They've produced their fair share of shit too but they've got a decent back catalogue.
'Velocity Girl' was on the C86 compilation
so yes, over two decades.
Aye
i think they deserve it more than Ian Brown/Shaun Ryder anyway.
i take the title Godlike Genius with a pinch of salt, don't you? i think out of all their winners (that i can remember) only MES really comes close.
yep,
the title fits the whole hyperbole and hype that NME generates. I rate some Primal Scream stuff and I think they have suffered due to some younger (and inferior) bands obviously being influenced by them.
I won't say anything about Ian Brown though because I love The Stone Roses debut album (probably) more than any other album in the world.
Xtrmntr
was top draw! since kevin shields left their side they went shit
"No one parties like Primal Scream"
Can we take it that S Club 7 were in the running until the blonde wo-man opened her mouth on national tv?
paste the whole link above onto yr browser...
ahh Bobby, where did it all go wrong? Was it when you started doing stuff with Kate Moss? Was it calling an album 'Riot City Blues'?
not as ridiculous as
the fact that we are scientists and the strokes are nominated for the "best international band" category, even though the strokes haven't released anything since the last awards (when they won) and all we are scientists have released has been a b-sides compilation which the nme gave 6/10. i mean at least nominate the decemberists or something. at least TRY not to be so utterly tedious
