Rice is nice, if you're over 40: singer tours
Posted:
I've never got the appeal of Damien Rice. I assumed it was because I'm too young to be suckered by another average singer-songwriter with a bit of monthly glossies acclaim behind him (did you see the advert for 9 on the back of The Guide? Who'd say such things!?), but an encounter with a young girl's iPod on the bus t'other day proved me wrong. Everyone loves this guy! So...
He's touring. In October. Go see, if you like him. If you're a real fan, you'll be pleased, too, to hear that he releases a new single on February 5. 'Rootless Tree' is what it's called. Yup.
Tickets for these shows go on sale on January 26.

I saw Damien Rice
in 2003
SUCH a boring gig.

A friend of mine
(who's mainly a fan of metal and new wave) has the first Damien Rice album. When I noticed it in his collection, his excuse was "I bought it so I'd have something to put on when I bring a girl home and want to do the sexing." I had no words.

Top
Mclusky reference.

I'm thinking those
venues are a bit on the big side for damien rice
-
That's...
...made my day.
-
O sold about
17 trillion copies.
-
surely new wave
is perfect for, ah, doing the sexing, in that it's mostly jerky and tense?

"Rice is nice, if you're over 40"
I bloody well hope not, I just turned 39, I hope that doesn't mean that next year I'm suddenly going to stop hating the boring git and buy all his albums! Eek!

jesus christ
damien rice in arenas? what mong thought that would work?
-
i like rice....
with chilli...or curry....just not in my ears.
-
Future Of The Left at 100 Club 30th Jan seems the better option to me
Although they are very similar.
-
no no, i'm not doubting he can fill them with people
but i can't imagine anything more ill-fitting to his style of music than a huge shed.
-
convert
Until recently i didn't like Damien Rice and i thought O only had one good track, the Bell X1 cover ‘Volcanoes’. BUT i saw him live last month (& it was in a large venue) and to my surprise i really enjoyed the gig, not what I was expecting at all.
-
Breathe easy.....
I'm over 40, and he's not nice. I mean, the very idea!
-
!
Woah wait wait whatnow? He's playing arenas and all that? Hokay now that's just plain weird...
-
nah
you cant lump Damien Rice in there with your Blunts and James Morrisons and Nutinis. Even if his record company would like him to be.
They rinsed O for all it was worth and i have a feeling 9 is gonna go the same way.Anyway, the chorus to his new single goes FUCK YOU FUCK YOU FUCK YOU. Now if that was Blunt the lyrics would be re-recorded to say Love You Love You Love You

you can't tease us
about Mclusky with every bloody Damien Rice article.
It's simply uncalled for.
