So, the Gossip...what first attracted you to the idea of supporting Scissor Sisters on a lucrative arena tour?

I think her opinion her is stupid. Why would she agree to go on tour with SS... surely she knew that supporting them would bring media attention to the band as a whole.

I think the whole wieght issue is irrelevant, she has a good voice, she is talented, but I think she's letting her ego get the better of her.

She wants to appear as radical as she can.

There is a massive problem in the UK with Obesity, and the Nation has never been so unhealthy (bar plagues etc). People in the public spotlight should not be promoting obesity such as Ditto. NME are equally to blame with their promotion of drug use, and by putting someone morbidly obese as the coolest person in the world.

At least we can all agree on one thing, obese people die younger on average, so maybe she'll die young, like a rock star, maybe then she'd be remembered for the music rather than being a fat mouthy bitch

In the society we live in, there has been a massive increase in the appearance of men. I'd say the pressure is more on men today than on women to look good. Women have been used to the pressure of looking their best for decades, the new pressure on males to groom and be a fine human being is far greater than any pressure on women.
There is no "Heat" or "Hello" complaining about skinny men, but fuck me, if there isnt a war on women who are tooo skinny.

I think the kind of hate you are coming out with is more intersting and worrying than anything to do with new rave, lets not mix it all up shall we. I personally disagree with you and think it is positive that she's fat because she represents a person being who she wants to be and who she feels comfortable within in a big rock band without making forced changes because some people like you can't accept a change in what the media tells us is 'the norm'. She has talked loads about this in press over the years. She is a more positive role model for anyone wanting to be in a band than most of the 'rock stars' shoved down our throats by the NME because of this refusal to confirm with some cliches, and I know for a fact that she is regarded as an inspiration, and its positive that she's a girl too. Like Rachel from Silver Rocket said above, why do people make a fuss about what a girl looks like but not a woman? Seriously I don't get it. People come in all shapes and sizes, get over it, they are a talented band and it would be a crime to have them silenced by people like you because you don't like the fact that she's fat. It really is hilarious. No I don't want a fight about it, obviously!!?

I don't think she's 'morbidly obese' either, and even if she was thats ok too, we don't live in the middle ages anymore. Horray for Beth :) and I'm pleased the NME have put this band into a new spotlight, bands like the Gossip could have spent years playing to the same sized audiences(which is fine) but its also great that they obviously wanted to raise their profile (and at the same time that of some of the amazing musicians they have been involved with in various ways over the years) and if thats what theyre comfortable doing, its great. Plus it starts an intersting talking point, and one that isn't just about new rave.
