Pharrell to score Eighties robot movie

N*E*R*D-y Neptune fella Pharrell Williams has signed on the line to provide the score to an upcoming movie based on Eighties cartoon Voltron.

The big-budget take on the popular television series, which debuted in 1984 alongside The Transformers (which will also receive the big-screen treatment in 2007), is being produced by Mark Gordon, responsible for Saving Private Ryan and The Day After Tomorrow.

If anyone cares, Voltron featured five pilots who try to discover how to operate the giant robot Voltron (pictured), which is itself made up of five smaller robots (see the Transformers similarities, eh?). There's some baddie element too, we guess.

DiScuss: Is there anything Pharrell won't do to make a buck? Are giant robots next year's Harry Potter?

Pharrell to score Eighties robot movie

Transformers similarity?

how about power rangers?

Re: Pharrell to score Eighties robot movie

it's being directed by steven "let's make this a long one, lads" spielberg!

Re: Pharrell to score Eighties robot movie

Power Rangers were well after son, i had the Voltron toys back when i was a nipper. Plus Power Rangers is ghey.

Transformers got really delayed as i remember, it was initially scheduled for a late 2005/early 2006 release. I know a complete Transformers obsessive, the guy has a whole battle tattooed on his right calf.

Re: Pharrell to score Eighties robot movie

Scary.

I was in a Southampton record store once, and had a Decepticon badge on my backpack. The guy behind the counter started eyeing it up, and offered to give me my purchases that day - the Refused EP comp and something else - for nothing except the badge. Troubled, I refused (heck, the badge was a present, so I couldn't give it away, even for rock), but then he leaned over and said: "You wanna see my tattoos? I got a Megatron right here..."

I ran and ran and ran from the man.

Re: Pharrell to score Eighties robot movie

TRANSFORMERS MOVIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! FUCK YEH!!!!!!!!!

Pharrell to score Eighties robot movie

Voltron AND Transformers movies?

fuckfuckfuck

I'll like them even if they suck shit.

Re: Pharrell to score Eighties robot movie

Spielberg's not directing the Transformers one, he'll be producer or executive producer, or it's made through Dreamworks or something.

Re: Pharrell to score Eighties robot movie

The director is Michael Bay.
Don't ask me what he's done cos I dunno.

Pharrell to score Eighties robot movie

er... the very good Pearl Harbour and other assorted classics

Re: Pharrell to score Eighties robot movie

Is it going to be animation or live action?

I NEED ANSWERS!

Once, when I was 16 and taking my GCSEs and going a tad bit insane, I borrowed a friend's vintage-1986 tape of Transformers: The Movie. I watched it so many times over exam period the sound detached from the video by about half a second.

Re: Pharrell to score Eighties robot movie

Live action (so CGI Transformers, then).
I dunno if it's based on the new stuff on kid's TV or the old programme with Megatron et al.
I too have the old movie, but on DVD.
I still watch it (hangs head in shame).
It's a good pick-me-up movie, what with the cock-rockin' soundtrack and The Breakfast Club's Judd Nelson saving the day.

Transformers is epilepsy inducing greatness.

I read that there is another Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie next year too. Now, this was also in my era, and although not a patch on Megatron et al, should be worth a look all the same

I've been waiting for this ever since those citroen adverts with a dancing transformer.

Pharrell to score Eighties robot movie

Voltron kicks arse. surely daft punk should have scored it tho?!?

He'll have trouble beating the processed soft rock soundtrack of the 80s Transformers film.

Re: Pharrell to score Eighties robot movie

The only thing i can think off-hand that Michael Bay has directed has been the Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake.
I know he produced the Island as well.

Re: Pharrell to score Eighties robot movie

Oh also, i read in a film magazine that they are getting some help from the team that did that car advert with the kinda dancing transformer car.
you know the one i mean, with Les Rhythmes Digitales music.....

Pharrell to score Eighties robot movie

is it true The Transformers is one of the movies Pete Doherty and Elton John are doing the theme songs for? Along with Thundercats and He-Man. I keep hearing this rumour!

Re: Pharrell to score Eighties robot movie

michael bay was responsible for bad boys and other such films which i cant think of right now, he is famed for having massive explosions n pyrotechnics n such in most of his films.

Re: Pharrell to score Eighties robot movie

The soundtrack is officially the BEST THING EVER. An old friend from school was at a jumble sale in a hall in Bedford and found a bunch of LPs by the band that did the cover of the Transformers theme for the movie [with the, like, 9 minute guitar solo] and bought them. Crazy bastard.

Pharrell to score Eighties robot movie

yeah micheal bay sucks/is awesome:

pearl harbour
armageddon etc..

weirdo

Re: Pharrell to score Eighties robot movie

I almost hope it's true. Except for the fact that I really, really hope it's not. Unless they're covering 'You Got The Touch'.

Honestly, though, how fucking awesome is Transformers: The Movie? AWESOME soundtrack. AWESOME storyline (EVERYONE dies, in the first 5 minutes). Not to mention AWESOME cast - Leonard Nimoy, Judd Nelson, Eric Idle and ORSON FUCKING WELLS, in his last ever movie role (as Unicron, a giant robot planet that eats other planets).

My favourite guitar is completely covered in Transformers stickers. It's called WAR BASTARD. In fact, you can see it if you click on my profile.

Re: Pharrell to score Eighties robot movie

Yeah, but you still think 'The Touch' is better than 'Dare'. WHICH IS WRONG WRONG WRONG.
