Depeche Mode were among the winners at last night's MTV Europe Music Awards.
The veteran synth-rock trio took home the award for the Best Group category at the Justin Timberlake-hosted event in Copenhagen. Recently in the news for totally non-musical reasons sort Madonna was nominated in three categories - Best Pop Act, Best Female and Best Album - yet won nothing.
Bo Selecta comic Avid Merrion mocked the singer, who didn't attend the ceremony anyway, by dressing as her and saying: “I’m getting too old for this shit. I’ve been getting a lot of hoo-ha from the press recently just because I bought a baby. But I’m Madonna. If I want to buy a baby, I buy a flipping baby.”
A flipping baby? Can little kids do that without gymnastic training? Only Africans? Cool.
Alongside Depeche Mode, the only other British winners were Muse, who triumphed in the Best Alternative Act category, and The Kooks won the award for Best UK and Ireland Act.
All award-winners were chosen by MTV viewers. The full list of winners, as advertised in that headline, is below...

Foals: "We're going to get weirder and weirder"
They had a clip on XFM news this morning
of Kanye bumrushing the stage to complain that he didn't win Best Video, yelling "If I don't win, your awards show loses credibility." Have some DIGNITY, yo.
Justice deserves best video
all the other winners are incorrect
Best UK and Ireland Act
Should feature people from both countries.
So then at least Ash could've won something before Charlotte left.
3 points:
1) "Best Alternative Act : Muse"
An alternative to what exactly? The Killers? To be honest I'd rather eat my own head.
2) "Best R&B Act : Rihanna"
Who?
3) Impressive to see JT pick up 2 awards, consider he was hosting the night.
Why do the call these the Europe awards
if American acts can win them?
Surely they should just have one set of MTV awards if they aren't going to be area specific.
im pretty sure everyone knows
these awards are completely meaningless and just a general festival of celebrityness and mtv self-promotion
aah the killers
that world famous hardcore metal band
...
What exactly have Depeche Mode done this year... or last year... or the year before that to warrant an award?
...
These awards are always really random seemingly in the choice of winners.
Depeche Mode
They have a new album...Came out October 2005. It is excellent. If you are a Depeche Mode fan, you will like it. Of course, if you are a Depeche Mode fan, you probably know about it by now!!!
Depeche Mode
Nice to see Depeche Mode finally getting some recognition. To win Best Group after being together for 25 years in a mostly young and hip audience says a lot about them. Congrats.
And do check out their latest, Playing the Angel. Very good album or cd or whatever.
MTV
Do you watch MTV? Then you would never know what Depeche Mode's been up to.
Rihanna
released one of the best singles of the year, that's who.

Muse
