That Great Truck Sound: Raveonettes join festival bill

Truck have also confirmed that the Malmö Radical Cheerleaders will be performing (cheering!) at the festival this year. They'll be part of the new and music free performance stage - featuring cabaret, comedy and theatre.
Truck takes place on July 23/24 2005, Hill Farm Steventon, Oxfordshire. Unfortunately for those without, all tickets are now sold out.
Gates open: 9am Saturday morning and it all ends at 9pm on Sunday.

I thought they were pretty strong live when I saw them actually. But I didn't like the second album much. All that scuzzy minor chord stuff was nasty and cool, but all that happy major chord stuff just ended up sounding like the fucking charlatans or something. -

well its a long time since i've seen them but i remember being distinctly unimpressed. i think it was supporting zwan at the apollo and although the first song seemed interesting it just repeated again and again and again. just didn't think their music was good enough to justify how good they obviously thought they looked and sounded. -

the raveonettes have always been really cool... but the constraints they used to impose were a double edged sword - the albums are focused but far too repetetive. great live, and hopefully the new album sorts out all the problems - ode to la is gorgeous.
unrelated, but sharin is easily the nicest vaguely famous band member i've ever met - and no not just because she is easy on the eye! -

the new album gets rid of all the distortion and Mary Chain rip offs, just leaving the Spector style pop songs.
It might be good if that's your thing, but I only every really liked them when they were noisy, at least the new album isn't confined to one key, that was one of the most stupid ideas I've ever heard. -

Fantastic news for festival goers. Their live performances this year have mixed up their 'velvet/mary chain' scuzz with a melodic new sound to great effect. It will be grand if 'Do You Believe Her' gets another airing....possibly my favourite two mintutes of monster riffing and lyrical anghst. There's also Sharon..... -

Pretty in black is a sweet sweet album. I guess you have to love Psycho beach party and That darn cat!, Chris Isaak and the Dixie Cups to really enjoy it, all that 50s american mystique, Googie-style drive-ins, the Jetsons, Bewitched, and giant Airstream trailers. We thought The Raveonettes were mini-MaryChains, now they're mini-Cramps (this side of Fonzie), and maybe what they actually really are is a cartoon band made flesh. Anyway I like the idea as much as I like their songs. 'Ode to LA' is divine.
