DiS’ favourite bedtime read, The Book of British Hit Singles & Albums, published by the boffins at Guinness World Records, today release their annual list of the Top 100 Most Successful Acts of all Time today. The list is organised by a combined total of weeks on the UK singles and albums charts, and we have The King insurmountable at the top, while gnarly old Cliff has edged away from the The Beatles. Tragedy!

Robbie Williams has edged into the top fifty, cos YOU LOT keep buying his records (even if it is for Mum and Dad), while U2 look set to soon overhaul the great dame David Bowie in the top 10.

But Dire Straits in the top 15? Really? Blimey. Oasis tuck in at no.28 while the Stereophonics and Red Hot Chili Peppers enter the top 100…

Here’s run down of the top 25 for you with other ‘notables’ highlighted…

Dire Straits are probably at No. 15 thanks to the ridiculous numbers of 'Brothers in Arms' that sold.

It seems somewhat strange to combine singles and album sales for some reason...
