Gallagher in a strop with the label...

Quotes from Oasis leader Noel Gallagher in Time Out magazine this week suggest that he’s not entirely happy with the band’s first single… he’s angry with Sony after the label apparently chose to release Oasis’ new single ‘Lyla’ against the band’s wishes.
In an interview with the entertainment weekly, Noel said the band would have picked a different first single from their forthcoming ‘Don’t Believe The Truth’.
He said: “If it was up to the band, that wouldn’t be the single. It was the powers that be, whoever they fucking are, that decided the first single.
“It’s a fucking scandal that as the leader of this group I don’t get to pick what our fans hear first.” Well, you recorded it….

Gallagher in a strop with the label...
well you sell your arse you pay the price - he's been in the control of Sony since 1994 so he must be used to it by now- clearly he has realised no one likes this slice of hot steaming turd and wants to blame 'the man' for it

his head is shrinking, but the eyebrows and hair remain. Rot in 1995, Gallagher
Gallagher in a strop with the label...
Long may Noel and Liam Gallagher continue to wind-up pretentious, humourless indie twats. Hero.
Gallagher in a strop with the label...
im pretty sure i read him talking about how great the song was and all that stuff ... now hes upset
sounds like hes just covering his ass cos everyone says lyla is crap

Re: Gallagher in a strop with the label...
silly! part of the creation deal with Sony was to market Oasis as an indie cred band whislt being funded by Sony - everyone knows that!
Re: Gallagher in a strop with the label...
Oasis have never wanted to be an indie band. Where did you get that idea from? Oasis wanted to be massive from the very beginning.
Re: Gallagher in a strop with the label...
Not everyone thinks Lyla is crap. Like me, for instance. Just as not everyone wanks over the latest Mars Volta release. Like me, for instance.
Gallagher in a strop with the label...
oasis signed to sony not creation, fact fans. I am sure la Gallagher agreed to Lyla coming out first and I am sure he was singing its praises just las t week. I was under the impression that Big Brother Records was established purely to give noella that level of control. Dont listen to the marketing men my manc friend. Noely, you must have someone around you that tells the truth about yr records. Lyla is crap. It is a flat blues y riff that goes nowehere mate. Where is the fecking tune, old fella. Drop me an email and I'll give the album a onceover for ya, gratis.
Re: Gallagher in a strop with the label...
That's the way I feel about Mogwai, but no one listens. Cos they're cool, apparently.
Re: Gallagher in a strop with the label...
Mogwai aren't cool, they're GREAT !
And it seems M. Gallagher is already searching excuses for his new records failing to sell as good as the old.

Re: Gallagher in a strop with the label...
I dispute that.
Re: Gallagher in a strop with the label...
Mogwai get away with it. Every time.
Gallagher in a strop with the label...
Uhhh Noel, "Lyla" is EVEN worse than Songbird & Little By Little.
Anyway, he's always been in a strop with the label in some form, when they where in that bus crash in America he said, "it takes a fookin' bus crash to get som' attention from Sony America"

They haven't made a good song since Slide Away.
Lyla made me fall over laughing.

strange behaviour alright.
The problem with Noel as far as i can see was the day he believed his own hype (sometime just after definitely maybe came out) and starting considering himself to be a "serious" songwriter. Jettisoning the drummer who gave the band their punky sound and then the remaining "crap" musicians who all gave the band the sound that made them popular in the first place- replacing them with musicians who may be better technically but have no originality. jettisoning the humorous songs because a few people slagged Digsy's Dinner which made him lose the humour that was an integral greats such as supersonic. Trying to second guess the critics by slagging his own tracks off. Letting the other band members write songs.

Yeah, Lyla is the worst single yet. Even worse than the Ronan keating-esque Sunday Morning Call (a number 37 smash hit...)
Now stop bickering and look at that Johnny advert down there...

You got me on my knee's LYLA!

I guess he picked the godawful album title name as well.
Re: Gallagher in a strop with the label...
Your hilarious defences of Oasis by constantly slating DiS, DiS readers and other bands you "assume" DiS readers like is wearing a little thin.
Actually, scratch that - I've been dealing with Oasis fans online for years now, it wore thin in about 2000.

Re: Gallagher in a strop with the label...
I, too, must confess to liking the new Oasis single. I've just been Oasis-deprived for soo long...
And so what that Gallagher is pissed-off at Sony? That's not news! All artists lash out at their labels at least a dozen times during their fifteen minutes of fame, and this isn't the first instance in which Gallagher has done so...nor will it be the last.
You know, I worship Robert Smith (of the Cure), but he's also been known to criticize "the powers that be" for abusing their authority by picking the wrong single. Yes, I love the guy (and Oasis, though not as much), but I'll never understand how he can deem a song good enough to record but not good enough to be played on the radio...

Re: Gallagher in a strop with the label...
You seem to be confusing me with someone else. I certainly haven't done any of the spiteful things you accuse me of. Unless there's some DiS law about which bands it's OK to slate and which ones it's not.
Re: Gallagher in a strop with the label...
it went to number 4 did it not? why do i always remember such useless useless things...
Re: Gallagher in a strop with the label...
eg the constant slates of "pretentious indie kids" or The Mars Volta or Mogwai or whatever.
There's no "DiS law" - when did I imply there was?
As said, it's wearing a bit thin - it's a standard defence of Oasis fans when their idols come up for ANY criticism.

Re: Gallagher in a strop with the label...
You're paranoid. And don't generalise all Oasis fans. It betrays your own ignorance.
Re: Gallagher in a strop with the label...
Do you still use the term 'chav'? How very 2003.
Re: Gallagher in a strop with the label...
Why do you care?
Re: Gallagher in a strop with the label...
Paranoid? There are examples of what you've said in this very thread.
As I've said before, I've seen Oasis fans and their behavior online for years - I'm not generalising.

Re: Gallagher in a strop with the label...
Yes you are.
You're also generalising about what bands DiS readers are supposed to like, i.e. Mogwai and Mars Volta.

Re: Gallagher in a strop with the label...
As regards 'Lyla', its nothing to do with being a pretentious indie kid pal, but more to do with the fact it pales into insignificance along side the likes of Supersonic, Some Might Say or The Hindu Times, all of which were lead singles off their respective albums.
Re: Gallagher in a strop with the label...
The relative merits of Lyla compared to previous singles is beside the point when it comes to Noel and Liam winding up pretentious, humourless indie twats. The Gallaghers only have to say something mildly 'outrageous' and out they all come in their droves. It's hilarious.
Re: Gallagher in a strop with the label...
It has merits? I think I've seen more musical merits in a carrot.
Based on this, my thoughts on the album: T'will be a steaming heap of excrement.
POOOOOASIS.

And what other lazy cultural stereotypes do you advocate the use of?
Re: Gallagher in a strop with the label...
And they say Oasis fans are thick.
Re: Gallagher in a strop with the label...
La Gallagher? you callin' him a girly-man or sumpin'? a sissy? a puss?
Poor Noelly G.
Personally I prefer El Gallagher. Sounds so much more macho.
Donde esta Los Gallaghers, etc.

Oh, dear, I got caught out. I heard this single on XFM and thought bloody hell, just the sound of it... is well, magnificent.. when I found out it was Oasis, for a moment I was gutted and then thought, fair play guys - if that was my honest reaction.
If this was by a new band I am sure others would be going oh my god.. but then in some ways a new band just couldn't make 'that sound' - as for the original point I would have thought a band are so close to their music that what they 'think' are singles and what hooks us on the radio are two different things ( or perhaps Noel is doing a bit of guerilla subversive marketing, saying to us 'hey guys, this is the single but there's even better stuff on the album' .... eh? the sneaky big eye-browed bugger...)

Re: Gallagher in a strop with the label...
i though they owned the label anyway?
Re: Gallagher in a strop with the label...
Scion, you are an idiot.
There's too many fucking indie snobs on here, I agree with The Glory 100%.
