There ain't quite a festival like it. Only in the heartland of Oxfordshire in the English summer could something like this happen, every year. It's like Glastonbury probably used to be but with a truck parked in the middle of a field and a barn stage, which is in fact a barn. If you've not been before, perhaps some seasoned festival goers can comment below in no less than 50 words why you should go...

Truck is hailed as the new glastonbury im telling u. I went last year and it was so so so unique. just a few pointers:
- new bands. more new and unknown great bands than u could dream of
- yes theres camping, only on saturday night mind but theres a cute little camping atmosphere still going on
- the second stage is a barn. yes. u can still feel the shit under your feet
- rotary club doing the burgers, no dodgy overpriced kebab vans
- old ladies dealing out penny sweets
- only 3000 people !!! (or there were last year at least)
- and for all u celebrity spotters, the bands all wander thru the fields between u guys checking out the scene
legendary. and all under £30...
u know its right,
see ya at the front for ymss... jen xxx

The best thing however is the feeling of not being ripped-pff at every junction. It's the ripping-off that annoyes me about Reading, especially the whol 'having to pay if you want to know when bands are actually on' thing. None of these shenanigans at Truck. Crossdressing Barmaids/men, icecreams, banana smoothies, the barn that stinks of shit.God I love Truck. Everyone's so friendly as well!

Re: Truck is 8! Biffy! Patrick Wolf! Magic Numbers
The fact that you can just wander around whenever you like
The vicar's sweet shop
The banana stand!
Wine by the glass & cider by the crate! And the Cider Wasps.
It's 1/50th Glastonbury and well worth the trip. There are lots of local bands to top up the line-up but that only makes me wish the Midlands had an equivalent festival instead of the comercialist V and elitist Splendid Afternoon.
Hopefully other bands like The Shinings, Bob Slayer Project, Amityville, The Lovegods etc. are to be anounced...

Re: Truck is 8! Biffy! Patrick Wolf! Magic Numbers
It DID rain last year, but only for about 10 minutes.
It's a great festival, especially if you are close, but we did get weird looks from the local kids on the bus with their single mini rucksacks and packed lunches as we had propper camping gear!
Re: Truck is 8! Biffy! Patrick Wolf! Magic Numbers
really.
theyre fantastically inventive and eccentric and resourceful and tender and hard and great.
a bit kiddy sometimes, but a fucking great band, and to call them dull suggests that you just havent actually listened to them.

does this strike anyone as A REALLY BAD IDEA?
while truck has plenty of aggressive, noisey bands, surely a band based purely on having a bad attitude and pissing people off/assaulting audience members/vandalising venue equipment is totally incogruous to the feel of the festival (obviously the organisers know the feel of the festival better than i do, but i'm genuinely concerned.)
well, at least i can laugh at them without having to pay to see them on their own.
Re: Truck is 8! Biffy! Patrick Wolf! Magic Numbers! +m
The fact they've been slagging off DiS on stage and apparently want several DiS writers heads on sticks doesn't really thrill me either.
Maybe we can hope it was just a typo.
Re: Truck is 8! Biffy! Patrick Wolf! Magic Numbers
(i read this reply at first without checking which post it was replying to -i posted elsewhere in this thread- and thought that you were talking about biffy. which confused me not a little.)
and a typo?
gotta wonder what they were trying to type if they came out with Towers Of London. maybe theres a band that are playing called "bunch of cunts with good management a la MSP" and someone in the office thought they were refering to ToL?
Re: Truck is 8! Biffy! Patrick Wolf! Magic Numbers
really.
cant blame them, but they are horrible.

I can't see why anyone doubts Biffy?
Well they obviously haven't seen them live before. When Biffy go on stage they completely own it and are full of confidence, style and individualism. They are probably the best live band Britian has but still people fail to stand up and take notice of there amazing talent and skill.
It really pisses me off how awsome bands like Biffy and ycni:m for that matter aren't given a chance in todays rock industry. They just seem sort of unknown to be honest. It gets to me that TWATS like Pete Doherty gets on NME for drug abuse and sticking his head up his own arse while worthwhile talented bands await in the shadows for there opportunity to be noticed and be seen as one of the greatest bands in Britian.
Anyways this is such a rant... never the less Biffy will do a brilliant job headlining and i'm sure it will be something special like all Biffy gigs are.
I stay too far away from Oxford or wherever... me is so jelous of you Truck fest go-ers

To me, nowadays it's all about the smaller festivals - I cannot WAIT for TMF this year and Truck looks like it'll be great again as well
I really couldn't give a shit about paying a fortune to watch the big names, i'd rather just have a great time and discover some totally new bands
