They might've lost their bottle at Reading (or gained some, depending on how you look at it), but Las Vegas-spawned emo sorts Panic! At The Disco (pictured) won the gong for Video Of The Year at last night's MTV VMAs in New York.
'I Write Sins Not Tragedies' beat off (oh ha ha) competition from Madonna and Red Hot Chili Peppers. Elsewhere, Best Group Video went to* The All-American Rejects* for 'Move Along' and James Blunt scooped the Best Male Video award for 'You're Beautiful'.
Here's a run-through of some of the major trophy winners.
Video Of The Year: Panic! At The Disco 'I Write Sins Not Tragedies'
Male Video: James Blunt 'You're Beautiful'
Female Video: Kelly Clarkson 'Because Of You'
Group Video: The All-American Rejects 'Move Along'
Rap Video: Chamillionaire 'Ridin''
R&B Video: Beyonce Featuring Slim Thug And Bun B_ 'Check On It'_
Hip-Hop Video: Black Eyed Peas 'My Humps' Dance Video: Pussycat Dolls Featuring Snoop Dogg 'Buttons'

Pop Video: Pink 'Stupid Girls'
New Artist In A Video: Avenged Sevenfold 'Bat Country'
Ringtone Of The Year: Fort Minor 'Where'd You Go'
Viewer's Choice: Fall Out Boy 'Dance Dance'
Apparently the ceremony was a particularly boring one (well, look at the winners), with the 'highlight' being when rapper Mos Def was arrested for an impromptu performance of a song criticising the government's handling of the Hurricane Katrina clear-up.

no
i think it's the only category that has any credence
it sums up the event perfectly
So
many good songs awarded at one ceremony.
With these awards, they are really spoiling us
Ringtone of the year!?
Oh dear...
It has already been said but...
Ringtone of the fucking year? STOP!
That's awesome.
When it gets this bad and people allow it, all you can do is laugh.
I wanna join in !
Ringtone???
Of the year???
Fucking leave it out lofty !
mainstream music still wank.
thanks for the reminder - i'll make sure not to watch any music telly for another year...
They should have an award
for ringtone of th.... oh wait.
Best award in the list.
Just think how stupid you would feel winning it...
Well apparently...
...there is considerable controversy in the ringtone scene about that very issue. Voices have been raised and temperaments poked. Some even threatened to boycott the event, and instead attend the rival, more artist-orientated "PHONEMINATION AWARDS" co-hosted by Schoolly D and Ian "Running Man" MacKaye.
Fuck ringtone of the year.
Read that bit again about Mos Def being arrested for criticising his government. Yes, ARRESTED for performing a song.
That's just the sort of freedom and democracy we should be exporting to the Middle East!
christ on a freewheeling bike
just look at that list.
GO ON! LOOK AT IT!
What a bunch of tossers!
Yet another reason to hate America...
...and James Blunt.
Cunts.
All of 'em.
Yay
i love the mercury award!
.
How the fuck are Rap, Hip-Hop and RnB different categories?
Ok I can maybe understand Rap and RnB being different...
...but what is the difference between Rap and Hip-Hop these days?
Isn't rap
just a style of singing?
While hip hop is an actual genre of music?
