Erasure's Andy Bell - HIV positive

Andy Bell, vocalist with 80s pop superstars Erasure, has come clean to fans about his HIV-positive status.
Writing on the band's website, Bell says: "Being HIV-positive does not mean that you have AIDS. My life expectancy should be the same as anyone else's, so there is no need to panic. There is still so much hysteria and ignorance surrounding HIV and Aids. Let's just get on with life."
Doctors diagnosed the condition back in 1998, but only now has Bell made it public. He plans to take part in a programe designed to educate young people about HIV and AIDS in 2005.
Erasure's new album, Nightbird, will be released next month, followed by a European tour in the Spring.

Erasure's Andy Bell - HIV positive
But you wonder why has he suddenly decided to publiscise it?
Re: Erasure's Andy Bell - HIV positive
well nobody's gonna buy the album now
they might catch it!

Erasure's Andy Bell - HIV positive
Oh crap. I like Erasure. It does smack a little of 'stunt'. But still, fucking hell, poor sod! That's not a nice thing to have.
Re: Erasure's Andy Bell - HIV positive
um your a stupid fuck, i hope he rapes you.
oh and by the way no one would buy the album anyway.

If you think about it, it would take a lot of courage to tell the world you had HIV given the stigma attached to it. Perhaps he's come to the stage where he feels he can help others by announcing it.
Erasure's Andy Bell - HIV positive
Maybe. But unless he's got a cure up that tight sleeve of his I'm not sure what he could do for them.
I once got everybody in a bar in Peterborough singing 'A Little Respect', a capella. I was quite chuffed about that.

raz is being sarcastic. thats how we works.
leave him be!
leave him be!
Re: Erasure's Andy Bell - HIV positive
I'd say it's probably something to do with the education thing he's doing about it next year. He's come to terms with it, isn't letting it ruin his life, and is now going to educate other people about it.
Could be a stunt though. Would it work?

Re: Erasure's Andy Bell - HIV positive
Stunt? Tellingthe world you have AIDS is not something you do for a couple of record sales.
Re: Erasure's Andy Bell - HIV positive
HIV IS NOT AIDS.
Posts like *that* are the point.

Erasure's Andy Bell - HIV positive
I feel quite bad for suspecting it was a stunt. I suppose it's a bit too serious a matter to be manipulated by someone I respect as much as Andy Bell. I take it back. Sorry.
Re: Erasure's Andy Bell - HIV positive
Slip of the tongue/fingers. Telling the world you have an incurable disease caused by 'out of society' behaviour is not a publicity stunt.

the new album is ace
thank you
thank you
Re: Erasure's Andy Bell - HIV positive
You are clearly not familiar with the concept of JOKEs.
Re: Erasure's Andy Bell - HIV positive
"Raz," is it? Uh, how can I put this both delicately and accurately...? YOU'RE A COMPLETE DUMBASS! Have you no sensitivity for a talented individual stricken with an incurable albeit tolerable-at-this-stage illness? Unless one exchanges bodily fluids with Andy Bell in order to obtain the next predictably excellent Erasure album, one will most assuredly escape contraction of the disease, at least from Mr. Bell. How little you know! The Erasure frontman has been HIV positive for the past SIX years, and there have been no news reports on a link between owners of recent Erasure albums and their infection with a virus of any kind. I sorely hope your post is just an example of bad humor rather than ignorant sincerity! No one, least of all a musician such as Andy, deserves to be even diagnosed with HIV, much less discriminated against for it. Andy's still the same person with the same angelic vocal stylings; Erasure's still the same group; the music is still oh so danceable! Condemn the disease, not Erasure's records! The last thing Andy needs is for the public to stop responding to what's probably been the cause of his high spirits for the past six years--his music.
Re: Erasure's Andy Bell - HIV positive
"easymalice" is it? what's that short for?
you're stupid. and you're stupid.
who did you exchange bodily fluids to catch that?
stop procreating. it's bad for the world. you are human pollution.
but yes. i agree with you, by the way. just in case you need it spelt out. you do. stupid.

Re: Erasure's Andy Bell - HIV positive
Okay, DUMBASS, A.K.A. "Raz," are you familiar at all with the Cure? Before the group settled on the name that's made them uber famous, they first practiced as "Malice" and then as "Easy Cure." I very nerdily, if I may make up a word for such shameless fandom, adopted the "Easy" Robert Smith cropped from his band's identity, followed it with his rejected "Malice," and BAM! you got yourself a mildly retarded--no offense--screen name! Oh, don't you worry about me unleashing upon this cruel, cruel world anymore "easymalices!" I'm more interested in passing my SATs than in exchanging bodily fluids with anyone at this time. Hey, and, if I'm so stupid, what part of my lengthy rant did you deem agreeable?
