Subways > Slayer?

The word on the world wide web this Friday morning is that The Subways are to adopt a heavier approach for their second album, and that they've written "a metal song".

The band's drummer Josh Morgan spoke to Gigwise.com about the direction of the as-yet-untitled follow-up to Young For Eternity.

“Yeah we’ve got a metal song now! We’ve gone really heavy, we’ve completely experimented!" he said.

“You know with the first album you’ve got to be careful, but we’re just being honest with all our writing and we’ve just matured a lot musically."

Morgan added that the trio have written around 30 songs already, "real songs", and have numerous b-sides ready for release. Which is nice we suppose.

...

...shit.

I'm not a big fan either

... but is it your life's work to piss on everyone's chips?

...

Yes. Now why don't you fuck off back to Happy Land, you communist.

yes....

me too actually

"Real Songs"

Hahaha. I can't stop re-reading the boy's quotes. He really is a twit.

i quite like them

though admittedly i got a bit bored of their album after a few listens.

i suppose that makes me a communist, stealthy. cos i remember that marx, trotsky and lenin were big subways fans.

no

they sound like Will Haven now

...possibly...

...

True, Trotsky and Lenin even headed up the Subways fan club, but fell out when Trotsky made public his view that they were just a cheap Easyworld knock-off.

Granted I don't (didn't?) mind them

As you admitted though, the music wears pretty thin pretty quickly.

Bizarre having seen them play at a half-empty Buffalo Bar at 1 in the morning and then a couple of months later they were on Letterman...

no offense...

but I genuinely hope you didn't seriously mean that.

good god.

Why do people talk such bollocks

"You know with the first album you've to be careful..."

No you haven't. If they want to play-safe corporates whores who don't do anything that might worry the target demographic that's up to them but I wish they wouldn't excuse it by claiming it's what everyone "has to" do.

I've only ever heard 2 songs by them and didn't have an opinion before but that remark may make them my least favourite band ever.

PS "we've matured a lot musically" - that's very nice for them but from what I recall weren't lyrics their biggest problem?

Oh fuck off,

with your 'metal' songs, JOSH MORGAN.

The Subways' fanbase is mostly people who tend to listen to just DPT, Arctic Monkeys, Razorlight etc. This will just please those kinds of 'I like everything' Foo Fighters people.

It's not bitterness

I can't see any logic for being bitter.

It's just a frustration that so many people make boring, safe, risk-free music and hearing someone in a band who presumably is in a position to influence people claiming that musicians have no choice but to play it safe is thoroughly depressing and is basically an admission of failure in art and creativity and so forth.

And that makes me really angry. Okay, the "least favourite band ever" thing was an exageration but I honestly despair of this kind of "don't rock the boat" attitude.

theyre not exactly

james blunt or coldplay though are they? chillout.

then

hopefully they'll go bankrupt and come back with an album of free all angels quality.

i doubt it somehow though
