Death From Above 1979 split
Canadian dance-rock duo Death From Above 1979 have officially split, confirming months of rumour-spreading and gossip-mongering.
Jesse F Keeler today posted a lengthy memo on the band's MySpace site (here), which begins...
i know its been forever since i wrote anything on here. im sure by now most of you assume the band isnt happening anymore since there are no shows, no work on a new album, etc. well. i wanted to let you know that your assumptions are correct. we decided to stop doing the band... actually we decided that almost a year ago. we finished off our scheduled tour dates because there were good people working for us who relied on us to make a living and buy christmas presents and pay rent etc. we couldnt just cancel everything and leave them out to dry... plus i think we wanted to see if we would reconsider after being out on the road. our label was really hoping that we would change our minds, so they asked us to keep quiet about the decision for at first. well, its been quite awhile now and we are still very sure the band wont happen again, so i guess its time to say something.
The memo continued, with Keeler saying that he and partner Sebastian Grainger have "grown apart to such an extent that the only real time we spoke was just before we would play and during interviews".
And that, we guess, is that. Jesse will continue working with MSTRKRFT and with Josh Homme on the new Queens of the Stone Age LP.

fuck!
what an excellent band. awesome live too. will so be missed.
shame mstrkfrt isn't a patch on dfa :(
Probably a good thing
They were great fun but it'd be boring if they carried on and just did exactly what they did on their album again, plus it would have been irritating if they'd diversified the sound, i.e. made it less immediate, which seemed to me to be the whole point of the band. Fun while it lasted.
I wish more bands would split up, its quite satisfying to do something for a short while then end it before it gets stale.
Thats actually quite a shame.
They were such a great fun band, and really quite fantastic live.
How Queer
Just this morning I was lying in my bed thinking "I wonder what DFA1979 are up to, I quite liked a couple of their songs."
Not a huge loss though, and there's always MSTRKRFT are pretty ace-o.
Bollocks
That's not very good. Not very good at all.
They were right up their own arses though...
so i'm quite pleased thy're no more.
...stupid name as well..
that is properly shit
noooooooooooooo! i agree about the live comments etc, and although mstrkrft are amazing remixers i'm not so sure about their own work. we'll see :(:(:(:(:(:(:(
shit news
:(
I'm kinda
glad this happened. They made one great album which pretty much said ewverything they could. I'd rather this happen than them make a shite album.
gay
GHEY
:(
They were so ace. Just listening to the album now as a tribute... bugger. :(
at reading last year they were rubbish
decent tunes anyhow
That is true...
such a dissapointment considering how the album is so incredible; they shall be missed anyhow.
The MSTKRFT remix of Monster Hospital is fantastic though; however this may be because the original is also so good.
I thought they were great at Reading.
Turned me into a fan, that performance did.
:(
I didn't expect this. I never got to see them live, another dream dies. 'You're A Woman, I'm A Machine' was my favourite album of 2005 as well. I hope MSTRKRFT goes from strength to strength.
RIGHT
Someone stop using abbreviations and let me know what the hell MSTKBRJLABVFKfv stands for! Please!
I really really wanted to like this band.
I couldn't, because they were dreadful.
gutted
I liked them a lot.
shit
gonna miss these guys, saw them at leeds festival and they were immense. black history month is complete genius. gutted.
right time
but they were amazing at leeds last year, especially when sebastien went psycho on a guy right next to me for pulling his neckerchief ( this allowed me to go through s's pockets and steal a backstage pass) - i gave it to my then girlfriend whos mam put it through the wash.
SHIT!
now, i am pissed off. big time.
BAD BAD
