Earlier this year DiS went to Royal Festival Hall to see The Wainwrights play a family show. Rufus, as the pin-up for show-tunes fused indie-pop, whose been flung into critical fame, what with folks like us making 'Want One' one of our albums of last year, was meant to be the reason folks were there and the centrepiece to the evening, for one and all. But lo... What we left with was a complete and utter joyful sense of breathless wonderment after witnessing his sister Martha, kicking off her heels and totally stealing the show with a folk song ['Bloody Mother Fucking Asshole'] in a land beyond guitar thrashers like Sonic Youth. And a gigantic spiralling voice.
A few months, several phone calls, and one signed contract later, we're very pleased, excited and proud to announce that Martha Wainwright's debut UK EP release, 'Bloody Mother Fucking Asshole' (DiS0009), will come out on Drowned in Sound Recordings on Monday November 15th. Followed by her debut album in February 2005.

We have Martha playing a special free matinee headline show on Saturday 13th LONDON RoTa at Notting Hill Arts Club.
And she's on tour in the UK (which is pretty much all sold out now) with her brother...

In other interesting Martha news, she performs in the new Martin Scorsese movie 'The Aviator' and it should be on the soundtrack. Plus Martha's music (These Flowers, When The Day Is Short) is in the movie "P.S." (Topher Grace, Laura Linney) which is out in America this week, with the soundtrack out on Koch Records.

The day you stop calling people "bald, brummy, ageing" as insults is the day someone takes you seriously. It's really childish and devalues any validity in your argument.
In a few years, you may very well be dull, bald, ageing, londoner-or-suburbaner-or-hoxtoner.Or maybe you already are.
Someone's haircut, age, and location means fuck all. If someone is a twat, then by all means lambast them for that, but judging them by their date of birth, genes, and the place they grew up in is juvenile.
Jesus. In all the years I've been coming here, Sean, you're still a twit, unfortunately. But why do I call you a twit? You can't persuede someone of your opinions, so you end up calling them names. That's fairly twittish in my book. Shame.

When someone is personally attacked it takes a zen master/mistress/monk to form a considered argument/defence/comeback and not either fly off the handle or at least let a few 'juvenile' insults slip - it's called being human.
I think Sean Adams takes enough abuse from bitter, jealous and ignorant people that he has the right to vent his spleen a little, even if it isn't the most constructive thing to do. Constructive aguments - that's what we're here for!
If that means people like you lose some respect for Sean, then fair enough, it's your perogative - but it'll take a hell of a lot more for me to feel the same.

Credit to Sean though for signing someone he believes in and putting in the effort, but he should try, in my opinion, to brush up his people skills.
