Ludes launch free club TONIGHT!

LUDES are set to launch clubHEDONISTIC this Monday. It takes place at The Archway from 7:00pm and entrance is TOTALLY FREE.

LUDES are joined by REDJETSON, RIFF RANDOM and HEDON, who are putting it on, as well as DJ Charlie No.4. It is hoped that the new night will help build up a proper community of music fans, showcasing proper talent to a packed out crowd. New and upcoming bands are being encouraged to send demos in. Details are at clubhedonistic.com. The venue is bang opposite Archway tube (Northern Line). If that's not clear enough, then see a map.

The north London venue is expected to be quite busy, so best to turn up early to guarantee entry. Word has it that THE BOYFRIENDS are lined up to play the second night, on Monday 18th October.

Details on the bands are below. Anyone wanting further info should email play@clubhedonistic.com.

LUDES exude the elegantly wasted air of seasoned pros, despite their relatively short tenure within rock’n’roll circles. Already veterans of tours with Electric Six (“every night was like something out of ‘Casualty’) and Franz Ferdinand (“cool”), they’re clearly only a connecting train from stardom. Wherever they assemble, something bizarre happens, prompted by both their other-worldly looks - think The Faces crossed with ‘Modern Life Is Rubbish’ period Blur - and a savvy London wit inflected with the spirit of everyone from Harold Pinter to Ian Dury.

REDJETSON play visceral, star gazing intellectual rock with a linear, experimental bent. The Essex six-piece. Idly compared by some to Slint, Mogwai, Do Make Say Think & Explosions in the Sky, the (admittedly very cool) associations would ignore the warm, beating heart which lies within. Drowned in Sound Recordings’ stargazers bring their "blissful" (NME) post-rock indie shapes to Archway, previewing their debut album 'New General Catalogue', due in January.

RIFF RANDOM
are four young guys obsessed by guitar freak outs, noisydelic drones and haunting melody. If Thurston Moore and co. grew-up a decade or two later in Melbourne with the benefit of working with Jesus & Mary Chain's Ben Lurie, they'd be serving up a debut EP like these four Aussies. After infamous shows of psychedelic meltdown, they’re burning with sonic love. Every show is a stage-sizzling experience that reaffirms the electrifying power of rock n’ roll. Sure, they’ve got seminal influences (Sonic Youth, My Bloody Valentine, Stooges, Love, ‘60s psychedelia), but this ain’t no tribute. This is something new...

HEDON provoke fond memories of when classical songwriters played chilling rock n' roll and emotionally intense lullabies. A mix of poppy anthemics and harder edge phychedelia, the five twenty-nothings meld poetic and musical influences into instantly memorable melodies swirling around romance, chance and supernatural affectations. They combine layered soundscapes and tightly woven rhythmics with one of the most watchable live sets around. Few young bands have this much promise.

Re: Ludes launch free club TONIGHT!

Okay, well, here's the thing, etc...
Going home first for some grub so will be there 8ish?? Maybe a little after.
Why am I telling you this on a public forum?
Ah well.

Ludes launch free club TONIGHT!

Sad I know, but it's a serious problem.

Ludes launch free club TONIGHT!

Did anyone else go to this last night? What a cool venue, brilliant crowd and great music. Can't wait for the next one.

Re: Ludes launch free club TONIGHT!

I went.
Thought the venue was pretty decent. Can't quite believe I'd never been before considering I live all of ten minutes away. Guinness didn't taste like shit, which is something for neighbourhood pubs.
Bands were mixed - Redjetson were incredible. I could take or leave the others, to be honest, although I felt Riff Random were let down by poor equipment. At least, that's how it seemed.
But, yes, a great idea and one I hope will run and run.

Re: Ludes launch free club TONIGHT!

Riff Random used Redjetson's amps.

Thanks so much to everyone that came down and made it a blinder of a night. The place was rammed, none of the candles fell off the pillars and everyone had a great time.

See you all on Monday 18th October!

Email play@clubhedonistic.com for info.

Re: Ludes launch free club TONIGHT!

Ahhh, I see. Redjeston's set didn't seem technically hampered to me, so I was surprised at the end when they were like, "Oh, sorry about the shit equipment". Guess they didn't use their own though, but Ludes'... quite a night of gear switching, all told.

Anyway, was good! Best of luck with the next one.

Re: Ludes launch free club TONIGHT!

Hey,

Riff Random didn't use our stuff - we actually used our own guitar amps and Ludes' bass amp and drumkit.

I had a problem with my amp that has been with me for a while now - it tends to make a loud, sustained grunting noise sometimes - I've taken it to the amp doctor and they're baffled... but I tried to cover it as best I could. So that was our 'technical' problem.

Other than that, it was a great show and a great idea - thanks to Hedon/MrFuture.

Thanks for coming down - these kind of nights deserve our full support.
