The continued adventures of Alex Baker and William Grant at Sonar 2010.»
Who rock the party like Alex Baker and William Grant rock the party? NOBODY. This is why we sent them to this year’s Sonar festival, the better to write important words about it.»
Back in March, London folktronicists Tunng released their fourth full-length album, ...And Then We Saw Land, which we reviewed here. We had a brief chat with Mike Lindsay ahead of the band's appearance at this week's Hop Farm festival about touring the new record, touring with African desert blues band Tiniwaren, the troubles on building your own studio and a few other things, like most of the stuff associated with festivals and that.»
Naming your band after a Scottish island is bound to fool people into believing that you actually hail from that place. I'd imagine that this problem occurred to Oxford's Stornoway some way shortly after choosing that name to perform under, but they decided to stick with it, eventually playing a sort-of homecoming in the town itself earlier in the year. By all accounts it was triumphant. That's one to tick off.»
It is often said that here exists a lack of high quality bands coming from the island known as Australia. Or rather, there aren't enough of them. That argument may have some saliency but it's safe to say that Sydney and Melbourne electronica trio Midnight Juggernauts can't be lumped in with them. That's because they're actually quite good.»

A quick guide (of sorts) to this year's Hop Farm Festival including TWO Spotify playlists. »
As DiS’s own Michael Dawson, thanks to my relatively late call-up to cover Glastonbury, there’s been no small amount of last-gasp poring over flipcharts, GANTT graphs, reading tea leaves, throwing bones etc. etc. as I try and deduct who the chuff I’m going to see over the festival’s duration. Plus, as it’s my first time, all of Wednesday and probably Thursday (and maybe even some of Friday) will most likely be spent wandering about gawping to no-one particularly interested that 'cripes, it’s even bigger when you’re actually here isn’t it?' Aside from that though I’m going to aim to see at least a handful of acts per day - that is if my brain doesn’t get turned to mush by the sheer logistics of it all (that’s what they call drinking these days is it?) The following is likely to be as clear as mud (b‘dm tsch) but does attempt to narrow down the many directions in which the next few days could take… »
The Magic Numbers had two years, two albums and two top #20 entries for those very albums. That was back in 2006. Giving themselves some time off from the grind of touring-recording-touring the band got back together in late 2009 to record the follow-up to 2006's Those The Brokes, working with Icelandic producer of much repute Valgeir Sigurðsson. We caught up with lead singer Romeo Stodart to quiz him on the new record, natter to him about festivals and trying to find out what he's been listening to lately...»
There’s been a strangely low-key build up to this year’s Glastonbury Festival, even more so considering that it celebrates its 40th anniversary this year.»
As Scotland's nicer, prettier outdoor megafest returns for its fifth year, we sent our man Neil Ashman to the shore of Loch Ness to report on the doings a-happening.»

Ahead of their apperance at Hop Farm Festival, we caught up with Sweet Billy Pilgrim main man Tim Elsenburg over a very dodgy phone indeed. Here's what he had to say for himself and his bandmates...»
Things have really taken shape with most UK festivals, but here's what has been going on in the last week, including a final announcement from Standon Calling, some Glastonbury information and something about a Real Ale festival up in Kendal...»

So, the pubeless posse had a riot at this year's Evolution Weekender. And who can blame them? With a line-up that featured Paolo Nutini, Ellie Goulding and Example it's no surprise that every underage hipster from Berwick to Bradford descended on the Newc»
Number 13. Unlucky for some, including me, whose computer crashed about 50 times in the writing of this piece. Still, here are the relatively few goings on in the festival world from the UK and slightly further beyond, like Norway and Ireland.»
Now in its sixth year, the Dot To Dot Festival has outstayed many of its rivals purely on the basis of its unerring frequency at discovering many an up-and-coming artist not to mention its location in two largely ignored cities on the festival circuit in Nottingham and Bristol. This year saw a third city added in the shape of Manchester, and despite ticket sales not being as quick off the mark as with previous years, no lesser time was had by DiS' man in Nottingham, Dom Gourlay. »
Vince Power is described as "the godfather of gigs" on his own VPMG website. You might think that moniker is a tad overstated but really it's not far from the truth, if away from it at all. Having founded the Mean Fiddler in 1982, upon buying a single mus»
The use of the term 'boutique' when describing a festival is immensely annoying. Not to mention confusing. I mean, what the hell does it really mean? What we're talking about here are the smaller festivals. The ones with no, or certainly less, sponsorship»
Though the worsening exchange rates and general economic bad times will have put some people off shelling out for flights, accommodation and perhaps overpriced booze, there's nothing to suggest that the habits of Brits abroad have significantly moved away from experiencing just that – and plenty of the good stuff, scenery, culture, good weather – whilst we continue to dot various parts of the continent and even further afield with our red faces and whining about the cost of beer. »
Eurockéennes, or ‘Les Eurocks’ (should you wish to appear down with les Fronch) is a music festival in Belfort, near the Swiss border. Jay-Z, Missy, Fuck Buttons, Hot Chip, The XX, Janelle Monae, LCD Soundsystem, Health and Mr. Julian Casablancas will be there. Here's why you should join them. »
Welcome to the 12th edition of our weekly(ish) festival news round-up, featuring the news and updated line-ups from some of the UK and Europe's best festivals, and some which aren't quite as good. Despite last week being Number 10 (twice) this week is definitely 12. I think. Anyway, off we go...»

A slightly more curtailed Festival News round-up this week mainly because a) an awful lot has already been announced, this limiting the prospects of space for further announcements and b) some of these festivals have already happened. »
