Planet Gear: Apparat Organ Quartet's Zildjian 20 inch Oriental Crash of Doom

All week this week Apparat Organ Quartet kick off a new 'Planet Gear' irregular feature for DiS, in which we ask musicians to get a bit geeky and talk us through the equipment that makes the magic happen...

You can catch up with the rest of the Planet Gear series here.

My all time favorite piece of metal.

It's a very special cymbal. Ultra-trashy, very dark and low pitched.

Almost not round at all, badly made on purpose but gives a very nice attack and full body sustain ....until it broke!

The afterlife still in use but a little less of everything, when not heard, one needs to imagine this piece was manufactured after a very well known drummer made a trip to china and asked Zildjian to recreate the "ridiculously trashy sound" of a cymbal he had found there

Two of these were sold in Iceland in the nineties, I'm looking for the other one.

Had a cymbal a bit like this

we found it down the side of a washing machine, it was a right state. Because of the big tear in it, we called it the gash.

Good article by the way; i thought things were going a bit over the top, but it's nice to hear people talking about stuff like this.
