Ricky Wilson loves... Radio
- Artists:
- Kaiser Chiefs »
I really like listening to the radio. I like the fact that mostly, it is actually live. The person doing the talking and playing the records is actually doing it right now. Nowadays, most TV is recorded, and now you can even watch it whenever on the web or Sky plus it, whereas the radio is pretty much happening right now.
I like it when I’m in my car, and someone at the lights has the same song on. I like it when people text and phone in to give us pointless information about what they are doing that day. (Why do they do that?) I like it when a song comes on and it’s shit, and wonder if everyone else listening thinks it’s shit too.
I like being on the radio too. You don’t have to wear the right clothes or comb your hair. When you go on TV, it’s mainly all about hanging around, being bothered by assistants in head-sets holding clipboards and telling you it will be another 15 minutes of eating crisps. On Radio, you just go on, say what you want, and fuck off.
Finally I also like them as things. From my first bright yellow and blue one from Boots, to my current favourite Roberts one via the one that blew up in my car, I’ve always had them around. Even now I can get it on the telly and the computer I still prefer tuning in on an actual radio.
Have a listen here to Kaiser Chiefs 6 Music takeover.

good for you
well done
spend all money on radios
good value when nuclear holocaust comes
don't mean to be rude
but what is the point in this...
"...and telling you it will be another 15 minutes of eating crisps"
I hope this was deliberate.
I've got a new found love for Radio
but I rearly listen to it thru the umm.... radio... unless I'm in the car and can't be arsed finding a tape. It's all about underground music internet radioi stations for me, oh and Marry Anne Hobbs on Radio One.
Get these cunts off
what are you doing sean?
Isn't this a dig at The Guardian?
Who are doing this with Bloc Party this week? That ex-NME scrote has taken over editing duties there and is turning it into Heat magazine.
Apologies if it's real.
I can't work out whether it's real or not.
It's not funny enough to be fake, but's it's certainly rubbish enough for me to hope that it is.
*but
but's?
Why is there no substance whatsoever in this feature?
Any particular shows? Who is promoting new and exciting music most effectively? Historical favourites? Pivotal radio/life moments when a song or presenter connected with Mr Wilson in a life changing way?
This is a little bit like the fast show character - "isn't radio brilliant? you can listen to it in your car or at home.."
I'm not as against the idea of the Kaisers Chiefs writing for DiS as it seems a few are but we're not getting much worth writing about are we?
this is my main gripe about these features
none of them are saying anything at all even to fans of the band I wouldn't think...
praps
you should use this opportunity to spark some discussion about what people should be listening to
Adam & Joe - 6 music Saturday mornings
Sounds of the sixties - Radio 2 Saturday Morning
Bob Dylan Theme Time Radio Hour - Radio 2 Tuesday morning wee hours
Stuart Maconies Freak Zone - BBC 6 Sunday afternoon
Guy Garveys finest hour - Sunday night Radio 2
hmmm maybe even Radcliffe & Maconie on Radio 2 tonight where the Kaiser Chiefs are playing live.
The Radio tonight is so so so good
9 - 11 Rinse FM - Distance - He pushes new talent in the first hour then gets on the decks and plays loads of exclusives.
11 - 1 Rinse FM - Chef - Usualy has LD with his and plays some blinding tunes.
http://www.rinse.fm/
or
10 - 12 Sub FM - Wedge with Appleblim as special guest - I expect an epic set here.
http://www.subfm.com/
then... Marry Anne Hobbs Experimental Show on BBC Radio One with special guessts, LD vs Clouds vs Pangaea which should be kind of special.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/maryannehobbs/
You don't get much better than that for radio really on a tuesday night.
Amazing
"I like it when a song comes on and it’s shit, and wonder if everyone else listening thinks it’s shit too."

re: this is my main gripe about these features... comment
Wrong - us fans are loving these little articles by the chiefs. A while ago I was sitting at the lights singing along to the same slightly crap song as the guy in the car next to me, we looked at each other, realised this and laughed. Reading this just reminded me of that, cheers Ricky, made me smile. Sal x
i'm not one to complain...
but god this is shit. i think id rather read about prince cutting his pubic hair.
What I love about this
is he has no preferences expressed or further thoughts about the medium of broadcasting expertise, no when or what, he just loves 'the radio' as an abstract concept.
.
I hate the radio. I hate the Kaiser Chiefs. That fact that the 2 sometimes cross over makes it even more upsetting.
