DiS Takes on London - November '04

DiS takes on London once again (do we ever give up?) with some of the artistes under our wings and some who're about to fly into the maintream...

This month is one of our biggest yet. The label is all going mentally well and our bands are in town. After the success of last months Birthday party at the Marquee they've invited us back for a regular monthly free night.

So first up, some stuff on the Drowned in Sound label happening over the next few weeks... including our new signing Martha Wainwright, the first ever acoustic thisGIRL show (with strings and everything!) and stargazers Redjetson. Followed by our choice of the most interesting, entertaining and imaginative new music around!

KILLING MOON are probably the best live band in London at the moment according to Drowned In Sound... Having emerged from a 4 month spell locked in a tiny basement, they've developed their sound and songs to something rather special indeed. Expect them to reach the heights very soon.

DUSTINS BAR MITZVAH formed little over 1 year ago and sound like The Ramones and The Kinks going mental in a dustbin. Or, to put it the You're So Old Street way; "They'll either die and vanish or mature and explode. Either way; a rare glimpse into a world of a band being a band just to be a band".

Re: DiS Takes on London - November '04

yeah, their manager played me the video for their forthcoming single and it was good. to put it in nme terms 'a more razorlight, libertines'

Re: DiS Takes on London - November '04

Dustins Bar Mitzvah are the worst band ever.
And I've seen some shit.
Arrogant, posh tossers acting the libertine way without any thought for a tune. If their manager was the same dickhead acting the big I am at Joyfest I'm surprised he lifted his knuckles off the ground long enough to turn on a computer.

Re: DiS Takes on London - November '04

a bunch of fucking chumps if ever I saw one, the joyfest review is an understatement. They supported a mates band, and turned up without any kit at all, then proceeded to trash the gear they borrowed, nice people. Avoid this band at all costs.

DiS Takes on London - November '04

The Paperbacks
My First Knife Fight
The Hitchers

at The Windmill, Brixton, this Thursday.
£3 to get in, and well worth it.

DiS Takes on London - November '04

Everyone should check out Host and Fleeing New York. Both quality, (+ completely different!)

DiS Takes on London - November '04

Whatever happened to the Brave New Ideas compilation(s)? Still in the works, or..?
