I love it, well excluding series 7&8 which aren't as great as the rest, what does everyone else think about it?
Series' 1-5 and bits of 6 are great, some of the later ones I saw were truly awful
But some people seem to revere it far too much.
When Holly changed into female Holly, that's when it started going downhill.
I liked female holly. ALthough i have to admit that I was happy when Norman Lovitt came back
my friend at Uni had them all on video, perfect comedy to watch after we had been to the bar.
Cliche - but the books were far superior. I can't even watch the show now.
what this says. The books are ACE, and a million times funnier than the show. read them, and you'll never look back.
They're the funniest books I've ever read. No 'funny' book has ever been able to come close to Red Dwarf(Infinity Welcomes Careful Drivers) and Better Than Life
the series has dated horribly though and I now hate Robert Llewellyn because he's a smug git. Danny John Jules on the other hand is an utter legend!
and sdrawkcab which was damn goood.
Backwards and Last Human is that they both tell an alternate version of the same story because the two authors hated each other. I prefer to think of Last Human as what "actually" happened, because it's more epic. Mind you the TV series is again a retelling of the story. It's a bit confusing.
but I love the show and books equally.
And I love most of the actors in it, except I don't like Chloe Annet much, she just irritates me in the 7th series and the 8th wasn't very good anyway.
I'm the opposite: I consider Backwards the canon book and Last Human as... well, I didn't really enjoy it, let's say that.
Strangley what both books (and authors) did agree on was that Rimmer should die in a noble sacrifice at the end, where as he managed to avoid it in the series.
What I didn't like about Backwards was that it repeated some of the scenarios from the series. Last Human seemed more imaginative.

Best series is 5 closely followed by 3. 7 isn't as good as 8 which isn't as good as 1-6. You can tell Rob Grant brought a lot to the writing style.
I only own series 5 and 6 (the best ones i think). Series 7 was pretty bad, but i thought 8 was much much better.
There was talk of a red dwarf film, but this seems to have disappeared. Does anyone know anything about this?
I think YOU'VE proved MY point.
The film is probably never gonna happen seeing as Doug Naylor can't get funding and Craig Charles is off his mash on Ecstasy-pipes.
The DVDs are worth forking out for, if only for the commentaries. Danny John-Jules should've got his own show.
...Barrington of Sherwood for me.
Series 7 is utterly shit and Series 8 is very much mostly shit.
I've read the first book I think. None of the others...
It was very different to previous ones, and they had a lot of new writers but I'm glad it ended (or has it?) on a decent series rather than on series 7 which just wasn't really that funny
has gone today.
You're clearly not the man I thought you were. Is 'Keeping Up Appearances' more your kind of comedy?
and i think they're lining up Alan Cumming to play you in the film
Sexybum: you need help. Fact :D
although i have never read any of the books. they are on my to do list, along with owning all the episodes.
male holly > female holly (but only just)
I enjoy ever episode...find it hard to seperate one series from another...great show
