    adman2001 | 12 Jul '06, 14:50 | X
    • yes

He was really good for Metz 2 years ago before going to Turkey and very good for Marseille last year.
Not sure his game is good for the UK...

      lyle @adman2001 | 12 Jul '06, 14:52 | X
      • Hmmm

Wern't Real Madrid going to offer something like £20 million for him or something silly like that?

        tom_from_sparks @lyle | 12 Jul '06, 14:52 | X
        • no offer frm the real yet

Bayern is offering 10 M euros...

          lyle @tom_from_sparks | 12 Jul '06, 14:55 | X
        • Lyle

is this what's being reported in the French press?

          I don't think it'd be too much.

As long as we get Buffon, Davies and Mascherano as well.

          ahem.

    With what money?

Also, I'm always a bit suspicious of players bought on the strength of big tournament appearences - I'm assuming the made the offer before the final at the weekend?

    Stealthy | 12 Jul '06, 14:52 | X
  • no

    he was good.
But a bit scared to play with players that were on his walls 5 years ago...

    lyle | 12 Jul '06, 15:02 | X
    • true

its amazing tho. he looks 30 but hes in his early 20's isnt he.
i think, would be ace for the arse.

      adman2001 @lyle | 12 Jul '06, 15:05 | X
      • he's 23

and already had an amazing life...

        lyle @adman2001 | 12 Jul '06, 15:06 | X
        • I think Ribery...

should stay at Marseille for another season or two so that he can blossom into a better player.

He could bomb if he moved to Arsenal/Real/Munich now.

          tom_from_sparks @lyle | 12 Jul '06, 15:07 | X
          • Lyon for 2-3 years perhaps?

That way he'd get champions league experience and the opportunity to play with world class players.

            Thom_fa @tom_from_sparks | 12 Jul '06, 15:09 | X
            • That could be good...

wasn't there reports of Ribery wanting to move to Lyon? Lyle?

              tom_from_sparks @Thom_fa | 12 Jul '06, 15:09 | X
              • yes

                Aulas want him for Lyon.
But Marseille won't let him go there.
And I'm betting they won't sell him under 23 M euros.

                lyle @tom_from_sparks | 12 Jul '06, 15:11 | X
          • that's right.

But it's difficult to look good when you have to give the ball to Mamadou Niang...
            Thankfully Dehu is gone !

            lyle @tom_from_sparks | 12 Jul '06, 15:09 | X
          • I'd suggest that if he's going to blossom anywhere

it would more than likely be under the tutelage of Monsieur Wenger

            Anschul @tom_from_sparks | 12 Jul '06, 15:10 | X
            • good point.

But he doesn't seem to play easily with Henry at the world cup.

              lyle @Anschul | 12 Jul '06, 15:12 | X
              • I think Henry had a crap world cup

I could see Ribery doing well at Arsenal - playing the Pires role

                Anschul @lyle | 12 Jul '06, 15:15 | X
                • I thought that

                  was what Rosicky was for..

                  neil_mac @Anschul | 12 Jul '06, 15:16 | X
                  • oh yeah

                    I forgot about Rosicky

but surely he's more in the Bergkamp role?

                    Anschul @neil_mac | 12 Jul '06, 15:18 | X
                    • Nope...

I see Van Persie getting more action in that role this season.

                      tom_from_sparks @Anschul | 12 Jul '06, 15:21 | X
                      • shit, yeah

Aresnal are going to be impressive this season

plus they're going to have tons more money from the gate receipts

                        Anschul @tom_from_sparks | 12 Jul '06, 15:24 | X
                • He isn't playing like Pires at all.

For me he would be better with someone like Klose or Trezeguet.

                  lyle @Anschul | 12 Jul '06, 15:17 | X
                  • maybe

also, if Arsenal get him (bearing in mind they got Rosicky as well) Ljungberg is not going to be a happy camper

                    Anschul @lyle | 12 Jul '06, 15:20 | X
    • I wasn't impressed with him

in the matches I watched...but maybe it's hard to shine in a team with Zidane, Henry and Viera!

      Darcy @lyle | 12 Jul '06, 15:10 | X
      • Surely

any player that looks that much like Gary Neville cannot be good?

        johnny_goatboy @Darcy | 12 Jul '06, 15:15 | X
        • ...

Phnar. He looks like Neville would look after he'd been in a fight...

          Stealthy @johnny_goatboy | 12 Jul '06, 15:18 | X
    • They were on his walls??

Round here we call that trespassing!

      thewarn @lyle | 12 Jul '06, 15:32 | X
      • but we french

        are strange people...

        lyle @thewarn | 12 Jul '06, 15:44 | X
  • You do realise he was in a car crash, right?

    JOKE

I'd like it if we got Ribery. His name has been banded about a fair bit over the last year, and I've always been impressed when I've seen him play. And I wouldn't believe much of the Real Madrid transfer hype at the moment - they're being linked with every player under the sun

IF we got Ribery, Saviola and Davies, I'd be mucho content. Along with Rosicky, that'd be quite the summer collective by Monsieur Wenger. Plus, if I'm being greedy, Yaya Toure would be pretty cool too

    dove_from_above | 12 Jul '06, 22:31 | X
  • I like Ribery

Wenger's being pretty sensible - seems he's signing better, or at least potentially better direct replacements for people who are leaving / have left.

Walcott - A Young Wiltord (hahaha)
Rosicky - Bergkamp with tackling ability
    Ribery - Pires with commitment
Curtis Davis - the new Sol - everyone's saying he's gonna be awesome
Saviola - not entirely sure about this one, but a welcome addition, he's a natural goalscorer.

Also i'd heard they were signing Buffon if Juventus got fucked up? What happened there? I'd love it if Buffon came!

    dan_thw | 12 Jul '06, 22:35 | X
    • Me again

If any of these come off, we'd have the most exciting squad in terms of potential. I mean, we pretty much already have, but I'm getting slightly wet (sorry) thinking about this

      Fabregas
      van Persie
      Ribery (?)
      Walcott
      Eboue
      Senderos
      Davies (?)
      Diaby
      Flamini
      Abedayor

Plus, Toure and Cole aren't exactly old

      dove_from_above @dan_thw | 12 Jul '06, 22:44 | X
      • and Clichy

        lyle @dove_from_above | 12 Jul '06, 22:46 | X
        • Very true

Do people in France know much about him then? And how about Diaby? I know he played over there in a few games, but I've been really impressed with him so far. I think he's got massive potential

          dove_from_above @lyle | 12 Jul '06, 22:50 | X
          • we know he quitted France early

            and that he has potential.
Diaby should never have left : it was just a problem between Santini and Guy Roux...

            lyle @dove_from_above | 12 Jul '06, 22:52 | X
      • ...

Maaaan... we could come 3rd this season!! [crosses fingers]

        Stealthy @dove_from_above | 12 Jul '06, 22:50 | X
  • that chicken was a little Ribery

    polko | 12 Jul '06, 22:48 | X
    • ...

      He should demonstrate that sometime.

      Stealthy @slap_in_the_face | 12 Jul '06, 22:58 | X
      • yellow army all the way

it's all about Ribery coming to Watford......actually no, if the gaffa doesn't want him nor do i..

        God that was pointless.

        kieran17 @Stealthy | 12 Jul '06, 23:14 | X
    • I liked Gilbert when he was coming through

But sadly, I can't see him having that much of a future at us now with the emergence of Eboue. Then again, we've managed to keep two young left backs happy, so perhaps there's no reason why we can't do the same with two young right backs

We still have Justin Hoyte too, I think

      dove_from_above @slap_in_the_face | 12 Jul '06, 23:25 | X
    • I hope they don't! I thought Ribery was pony in the world cup.
