he was a maverick, changed the face of music, was a generally fascinating lyricist and slight nutcase. except for the drugs he's definitely a life worth celebrating.
in such a short time is far better and influential than 23 u2 albums don't you think? One 2 minute song can change a life campared to 50 minutes of 'How To Dismantle An Atomic Barn' or whatever its called.
a lot of the 'myths' are jsut stuff made up by stoner journos who work for Uncut and still wear stone washed jeans, and it was probably true that he was happy living that life - its just sad how some of the things in his childhood and drugs nurturered but fucked up a songwriting talent - I think he should have written children's books in an ideal world.
There's a thread on the music board
http://www.drownedinsound.com/content/view/988283
Except it got sullied by a now-banned twerp.

he was a maverick, changed the face of music, was a generally fascinating lyricist and slight nutcase. except for the drugs he's definitely a life worth celebrating.

I don't know why I call him Gerald"
Thanks for such a funny funny line Mr Roger Barrett
Im too sad to work now
Dick Cheney, I note, like when John Peel died, is still alive.
interstella overdrive was
on the radio but yesterday!
I'm listening to 'Barrett'
now and its all so so sad.
at least he lasted longer than some of his contemporaries
and wasnt really young
yes but the whole story about him
living this idylic childhood and then wasting away on drugsand then living quietly at his mums is just really sad (that was an abbreviated version)
obviously
but maybe he was happy? he was a recluse so we dont know? or do we? i dont know a lot about old barret.
interstella overdrive is wicked tho!
Well as I've got older I've reaslied

Jo 'elastic bands round my face' Wiley. What a fucking bitch anyway.
well shes another stupid fucking bitch who cares more about her career than music
so its what you'd expect really.
sorry for the mysogeny....actually no I'm not!
I know... my flatmate and his dog, Floyd, are in
total mourning about this.
R.I.P
I am listening to Madcap Laughs right now
It sounds even more tragic than it already did now :-(
