  • It's rubbish.

East is where it's at. And North and a bit of West. Just not South.

    • A bit of West?

Wish I knew where! I always end up going out in North and East London then wondering how the hell I'm gonna get home.

      • dont get on the nightbusses

        whatever you do

        meths @theguywithnousername | 30 Jun '06, 12:08 | X
        • I've never had any problems on them yet.

As we're all very aware at the moment, there's very dangerous people out there but I don't think you can live your life in fear of what could happen.

Horrific though these things are, they're also relatively rare (hence why they're newsworthy when they do happen). And there are risks in any mode of transport (or indeed anything you do).

          theguywithnousername @meths | 30 Jun '06, 12:22 | X
          • indeed.

            • What happens

              on the nightbuses.

              Here they...um...just take you home.

              fullerov @-gen- | 30 Jun '06, 14:07 | X
              • mostly

nothing happens on the nightbuses. sometimes there are total cunts who like to bash innocent people, but generally they're peaceful, if erratic, places to be.

the bus i got last night was great. a drunk girl who had covered approximately 3% of her body with clothing was made to sit next to me by her motherly friend. she fell asleep on my shoulder, woke up, fell asleep again, fell off her seat onto the floor with a really hard thump, was picked up... i got up and let her friend sit down in my seat to, like, hold her in place, while i moved further down the bus..and then the girl started puking.

that's what's known as fortuitous timing.

                -gen- @fullerov | 30 Jun '06, 18:43 | X
                • I have this terrible habit of falling asleep on nightbuses

I think it's 'cos I usually go home from East London to West London which is a long way when you're drunk, late at night.

I always seem to wake up half an hour past my stop. Except once when I woke up an hour past my stop way out in Yeading. I never even knew where Yeading was before.

Even with all that's happened in the past week, I feel far safer on a nightbus than I do when I'm out on the street.

          you di'unt.

south london is fucking nice. we have greenwich, clapham common, the windmill, nicer houses, and i suspect things generally tend to be cheaper south of t'river. i could be wrong but i'm probably right. plus, we're closer to the equator so the climate is better.

hmmm, i'd say that - like north london - depends entirely on which part you're living in.

  • Stop cussing my hood, yo

There is nothing wrong with South London. Granted, it's not as exciting as north of the river and there are fewer murders per square metre, but it's nice. We have pubs and venues, contrary to popular opinion.

and recently moved East. I fucking love East (spent all my time here anyhow)... and really love North London. I have two friends who live in South London and, well, it's just so far away from everything... that northwest to north to east London bracket is more accessible by buses, taxis and even overground...

            • we have to defend it

because it gets unfairly slated so much. thing is, of the people that slate it, a lot of them really haven't spent much time there. brixton f'rinstance; it gets such a bad rap, but it's a fun place, loads of places to eat/drink/see bands/go dancing/sit on the grass in the sun and be lazy/shop/etc, and it's certainly not the kind of no-go ghetto that it stupidly STILL gets billed as by people who are scared of anything south of the wavy blue line on the tube map.

and south london isn't just tulse hill/dulwich/blackheath etc - there are things south of the river that are in zone 1/2... bermondsey, wandsworth, deptford, camberwell, kennington, brixton... none of these places are much more than half an hr from camden/islington/kilburn.

south-london-slagging annoys me, because it's so often just WRONG.

        • i spent my life until i was 19

Living in Sutton, which to be honest is a bit of cultural void. Full of middle class kids who want to be chavs and petty criminals, but in fact are just middle class kids. Makes it a little more dangerous as 99% of people who try and mug you, you can laugh at and say you'll tell their parents - but it will be just your luck the one time you get approached and do this it will be the psycho maniac kid who actually wants to stab you and isnt just being a little dickhead.

I moved to Brighton. That's the nicest part of south London. We get a beach, and a music scene.

it has an enormous old ship, and an astronomy observatory, and a gorgeous hilly park, and an antique market, and the most beautiful shops selling things like old maps and ships in bottles, and a wonderful patisserie, and a great view of the river, and a university, and lots of very very beautiful old buildings. central greenwich is one of the most beautiful places in london.
