who has one? Do you save much by having one?
and yes you do
it used to cost £5.50 or whatever for a return to tott ct rd
now it costs £4
I think I might get one...
if you go to and from work every day, it's essential. And you can go on nightbuses for free!
travelcard on all buses and tubes? or does it depend on the zone you live in. If I was to live in Shepherds bush and have a monthly travel card, how much would that cost, and how much would I save by having an Oyster card? roughly, many thanks,
my brother lives there, I am seriously thinking of living there to.
so a zone 1 & 2 one would cost you £84 a month. You can use that on zone 1 & 2 tubes and ALL buses. If you go outside zone 2, it will charge you a bit (about £1) before you can get back into the Tube again.
Single journeys are £3 per time. Daysavers are £4.90. Do the math(s).
that's greeeat. I'm dead excited about moving up to Londres.
you said a few days back that you're glad you don't live in London after a thread about safety or something
that was probably stabby.
But fares depend where you'd be travelling to. Shep's Bush to Zone 1 would be £1.50 for a single which is half the normal price.
As far as I know you cant use pre pay on overground trains yet but that will be changing soon.
Anyway everything you need to know is here:
but transport for london know EXACTLY where you go, ALL THE TIME..
and oyster means you can't take advantage of when the gates are open at tube stations, correct? cos, like if you start a journey you have to finish it innit.
but only a LOSER doesn't have a travelcard.
when I got it, should I have done?
if you use it for a travelcard and you lose it then you're fucked. if it's registered, you can get it replaced for free.
if you're using a travel card it's pretty much essential.
if you're just using prepay (as i do because i walk to work now) it saves you a lot - tube and bus fares are basically halved.
plus, it makes a cool BEEEEEP! noise as you get on the bus.
travelcard does it? Only on prepay. It's just handier.
but it's more secure as if you lose it you can get it replaced.
and it makes a cool BEEEEEP! noise.
if you have an unregistered one you can like, transfer it with people if yr not using it and stuff, which I do all the time. Plus I only get weeklys.
the lovely bleep noise though.
Several times I've actually got out my oystercare thinking it will open my front door...
London transport is a fucking rip off now I'm not a student.
and isn't it 50% discount for 16-17 yr olds now? Bah.
public transport outside of London?
London bus drivers who either get lost or go mad and steal their buses.
I'm sure I spooted A buses in Wiltshire in 2001.
I spotted the bus though.
who complain about london public transport deserve to have their tongues cut out.
seriously, try living anywhere else in this country. then you'll realise how brilliant the public transport is in london.
I have one, but I don't really understand it. And I think I've been incurring horrible fines by accident all over London. This is what happens when you let Labour in, people!
Yeah, that's pretty much my problem, too. I try telling myself that I'm not going to pay any fine because it's their fault they hiked the prices and forced everyone to get the damn cards even though some people like us can't use them on parts of our journey.
THen I remember they take fines out of your account automatically.
You can't beat City Hall...
but TfL are planning to introduce it to all National Rail stations in zones 1-6 by 2008:
now that would be fun.
What I do know is: Yestrday I ate an oyster ice cream in a cafe in Millport. It was £1.50.
i hardly ever use the tube or overlands so i just get pre-pay. normal fare for one bus ride is £1.50, but it's 80p on pre-pay. so whoop whoop. and if i need to go on the tubes and stuff then it won't cost more than a daily travelcard. which is nice too.
all this topping-up in shops and tube stations is a pain in the arse though. there's not much point doing it online cos you still need to swipe yr card on a machine before it gets topped up anyway.
70 pounds for a month between Zones 3-5. Saves me 50 a month on travelling to work.
and i missed the fun :(
this is my forte :(
want to work for the underground. It looks like a piece of piss.
That is all.
for working till 2am and starting at 5am...
and have to concentrate a lot.
but I think I had it covered. I'm a Londoner! Or something.
awww, to be a day old again.
