I don't think so. Footballers occupy a different headspace to a large part of the country.
I don't see how they could effectively refelect people from different backgrounds to the team, as they are so well-paid and famous these days.
If you get what I mean.
But isn't it funny how the Scandinavian countries are so well structured and organised, playing as a team without that much space for stand-out individual flair... the Germans are incredibly disciplined and tenacious, rigorous... the Brazilians are playful, fluid, every one of them working on skills and individual tricks and flair... England are the celebrity-obsessed underacheivers, always reaching for glory... the French team bullish and proud, not tolerating anything but success...
Seem to be the exception, look at the amount of flair players like Zlatan and Ljundberg have.
The traditional French way of playing was to entertain, even if it meant not winning! Times have changed from the team of Fontaine and Kopa though.
I don't believe a nations charecter influences how a team plays, a team will have changed it's style over the years to adapt best to the current footballing enviroment, look at Germany this year and compare them to the old Germany teams.
The Italian team don't refelct their nations charecter, you associate Italy the nation with art and flair, but their teams are often rugged, defensive minded and sometimes cynical.
generally. i mean in this world cup Japan played like a team with their eyes closed
not sure if it reflects the national character...
I think maybe it does but can't back it up. It it based on huge generalisations but then, if people have a shared culture, there will be similarities and that will affect their attitude to life and, as a consequence, probably the way they play football.
On an entirely related note, I've also ever wondered whether the style of music someone makes reflects what they're like in bed.
What the hell does that mean?
I obviouisly mean "also wondered".
When I went with Germlin, he was swinging from the chandeliers and pelting me with cream cakes.
And I've always imagined people like Mariah Carey would be too busy focusing on looking and sounding technically 'perfect' to actually enjoy themselves.
Erm, not that I'v ever imagined sleeping with Mariah Carey. That would just feel wrong somehow.
