My favourite is Roxy Music and 'Virginia Plain'. Seminal and iconic. And Brian Eno at his weirdest.
Doing faster. Nice balaclava. Makes him look a bit like a terrorist batman.
..an obvious one I know, but here we are ...
Inspirals + Mark E
that was dreadful.
Mark E Smith looked like he shouldn't be there at all.
'There are roomahs circulating aROUNdAH!'
I liked one of Ian Brown's late 90s performances - not cause the song was any good, but because someone was randomly smashing eggs with drumsticks all the way through it.
where ross dived into the crowd halfway through the song, never to return.
was the performance of the first single off his first solo album, wasn't it?
I seem to remember lots of complaints about the waste of eggs.
a performing monkey? Strange.
Because of the bad punctuation, the keyboard player's face and Ray Davies' massive smirk at the obvious fact the young crowd don't have a clue what the song is actually about.
its my dads favourite song too. worried now
it was UNKLE - Be There, wasn't it?
ones over the years. can't remember which song it was (maybe Novocaine For The Soul?) but there was the one where they all played tiny toy instruments.
and the one with E dressed in a devil costume. i think that was Flyswatter.
I give another vote to the Manics doing "Faster". until TOTP aired the video for Firestarter a few years later, that held the record for the most number of complaints ever received about something on the show :D
A poor performance, I thought.
playing chess. cos they had nothing else to do.
PWEI doing X, Y & Zee
Michael Stipe singing Orange Crush through a megaphone
Faith No More - Digging The Grave
The bloke from Stiltskin walking off into the crowd and through the studio
All TOTP performances I remember for no apparent reason
They had dancers in giant shopping trollies and everything.
I think that one sticks in my memory the most.
where Noel's singing and Liam's guitaring.
Don't Look Back In Anger when they stuck Liam at the piano, that was amusing
singing the re-released I Will Survive in the early 90's. Immense.
Also, Gala, in her bar-footed tiny Italian glory, doing Freed From Desire.
i remember! i was quite impressed
aah, yes...I agree, that's a pretty amazing bit of telly
who was that? or was it a keyboard?
The Smiths - William It Was Really Nothing
Just for that iconic moment!
the Libs doing Time For Heroes is pretty good.
Wet Wet Wet - 'Love is all Around'.
During one of many live performances of the song for TOTP, Marti Pellow got the verse lyrics mixed up and sang: 'I feel it in my fingers/As I lay on my bed.'
Thus the Four Weddings anthem becomes a moving paean to wanking. Great.
* Sebadoh - Flame (Barlow goes a bit bonkers)
* Roxy Music - Virginia Plain. Perfect.
Hundred Reasons and A were on. that was pretty awesome. There was also this one techno act that did a parody of Madonna where they had 5 girls dressed as her singing "the wheels on the bus go round and round".
Someones gotta find the video of symposium crowdsurfing on totp please. Just for them being on it.
going Cor Baby That's Really Free.
Well, I like it
the single was the lyrics to The Wheels On The Bus set to the music from Ray of Light. it came out on a label run by Shifty Disco, I think they found it on the internet or something.
All About Eve singing Martha's Harbour?
