that's crazy
there must be a catch, surely?
Yeah
It'll probably break instantly.
well, it's venturer
which is a shit brand but if it works it works, right?
NO!!!!
I bought one and then returned it.
The screen is absolutely shit, navigating through the options is a pain in the arse and the battery died virtually insantly.
You can usually pick up a Creative of some kind for relatively cheap, get one of those!
ah, they are selling
a creative zen sleek 20gb for just over £100. that might be a better option...
Probably
The reviews on that page seem to suggest it's not the most reliable manufacturer. I guess if you get a good one you're fine, but looks a bit of a lottery and everyone seems to suggest it's large...
Well this guy likes it:
Venturer 40GB HDD mp3/wma player review
A review of the 40GB MP3 player offered by Venturer
This Mp3 player has to be the best investment I have made, and even though Venturer aren't the most popular companies for making mp3 players, they have hit the nail on the head with this one. Although extremely big and chunky (reminding me of a large digital camera) the 40GB space is more than adaquate for a budget mp3 player. I have only managed to fill 10GB and I am a very big music fan (this is my entire music collection and my mates!).
At under £100 (as of feb '06) this piece of kit is a bargain, blue backlit display, play modes, rechargable battery via USB and AC, and best of all, 40GB! I suggest you get this, it is well worth it.
Disadvantages are its hard to scroll through millions of songs you want, power button is located in a place that is very annoying because trying to change a track while it is in your pocket, you end up turning it off (the keylock doesnt apply to the power button strangely)

A lot of reviews here:

thanks theo!
arghhh, i just want something relatively cheap that i won't mind scratching up a bit when i inevitably drop it. and that won't die on me when i do.
well
another option is to go with a 2GB card in one of the new Sony-Ericsson MP3 phones, I guess, if you're due an upgrade? Probably wouldn't be free but might only cost you about £50 or something to upgrade.
theo have you seen my phone?
it's a pay as you go one which cost me a tenner. i have thought about getting a contract tho...
and there's all these
crazy deals where they give away a free 30gb ipod with 18-month contracts. tempting.
I worked one of those
out the other day. You'd be paying more than £400 for an iPod. That is not value.
true, true
but have you seen my phone? i'm in serious need for a new one of those too.
Surely it's value if £400 includes your contract?
dunno...
If you want a new phone

You can get that one with a £19 a month contract. Might be 18 month contract though. How much do you spend on PAYG a month already?
£15
i had a sony walkman phone for a while but i had to give it back because the software was rubbish.
Oh right
I know the stuff on my phone is BASIC but at least it's just a drag and drop for MP3s.
don't buy it
my friend got it for 80 quid at christmas. I borrowed it for a day, and gave it back instantly. Awful product. It broke for him after about a month. Ugly piece of shit too.
my zen has been dropped 3 times
works fine still, it's got great protection. You know you want to.....
Horse for courses I suppose
In my experience though a Creative would be better.
Sometimes brand names mean nothing, but the Venturer was a pain in the arse when I had it.
It sounds cheap
I wouldn't buy it if I couldn't afford to lose £50 on the basis of those reviews but if you got a good one I'm sure it would be £50 well spent.
get a Creative Zen 20gb
I've had mine for 6 months, quality player. It can play mp3 and wma, basically anything apart from aac etc
is that the creative zen sleek one?
i was leaning towards the 30gb vision model until i saw the half-price deal on argos.
hmm if you want a video thing
get the vision model. But if you don't, then get the 20gb black zen jukebox thing. it'll be on amazon, it was the biggest selling mp3 player behind the ipod over christmas, and I got mine for 150 quid. GET IT
I would
Who cares if it doesn't look flashy, if it does the job and holds a shit load of songs, you can't go wrong.
Buy it!
really
don't buy it, no matter how cheap it is, it's shit. You'll spend ages searching for just one song, and it's just wrong in general. 40gb is the only plus point
the zen 20gb

meh get either
they're both the same price. Just don't get sucked into the Apple frenzy...
hmm...
hmmmm...
i think it might have to be the creative after all.
thanks for all your help guys! i hate being indecisive. :(
yes a sale!
oops shouldnt have said that....
*lights cigar*
haha
good work mrmagpie. i like your style.
Thats Zen is the one I have
its lovely - get it Ann!
ok*
*maybe :)
i had a 20gb Zen
And last month it decided to delete all 400 or so albums I had on it, and now it wont even reset.
Despite having no albums on it, on the information menu it still says everything is still there. And as it wont reset back to 'factory settings' I'm up the proverbial creek. Which is fucking annoying.
