All these Fathers day CD's

therapyrock [Edit] [Delete] 32 replies 23:29, 11 June '06

All featuring 70's and 80's bands like The Who, The Jam, The clash etc...

What will our Fathers day cd's be like in 20 years time?

The Libertines? Kaiser Chiefs? RHCP?

  • and wouldn't dads

who liked that type of music already have most of those songs?

    jp100 @jasminepearson | 11 Jun '06, 23:37 | X
    • so it's a cd

for non-technological dads who are unable to make mix cds, or for dads with kids who are too busy and rich to make a personal mix cd and would prefer to buy them from tescos.

      jp100 @jasminepearson | 11 Jun '06, 23:45 | X
      • Well they probably have them all on vinyl only

        so there is that...

    • Just seen a stranglers one...

"Get your dad what he really wants for Fathers day - Arctic Monkeys greatest hits"

      therapyrock | 11 Jun '06, 23:50 | X
      • oh dear.

they go by the assumption that everyone's dads are just old teenagers whose tastes have not matured and have, in fact, come to a complete standstill.

which may be true for some - but is rather insulting nonetheless.

i shall be getting my dad an elegant collection of dvorak. or a nice pen.

        • I want to buy the new wave and mod one's for

myself, but I think two best dad in the world cd's will look rather odd in my collection.

    • "the perfect gift for father's day"

      Unless er, your dad's deaf.

      roastthemonaspit | 12 Jun '06, 10:46 | X
      • This is why I am glad I donj't have a father

(I'm not a bastard though for the record) - but I could imagione his face if I got him Bez's Madchester Anthems of 'I Love Dad' with Driving in My Car on - he'd kill himself all over again - fooking rooobish clutter!

        prole-art-threat @roastthemonaspit | 12 Jun '06, 10:48 | X
      • or

your dad has hearing and taste.

        jp100 @roastthemonaspit | 14 Jun '06, 01:14 | X
    • i'd actually chuck

my kids out if they bought me something like that. it's the gift equivalent of telling someone they're culturally dead.

      guntrip | 12 Jun '06, 10:51 | X
      • yeah imagine it

you'd just have to think about what sort of cunt you msut have been to a)deserve kids like that and b) to have kids who wewre more culurally bereft than yourself - gene pools eh?

        prole-art-threat @guntrip | 12 Jun '06, 10:56 | X
        • It's also a good way of saying...

"I couldn't be arsed to think what present you actually want Dad so I just bought what the shop told me a generic Dad might like to prove I care"

My favourite of these CDs is the one called something like "DIY Music" that contains a selection of 'classic' rock tracks which are apparently ideal to do DIY to. Purely 'cos I have this image of people into lo-fi buying it by mistake.

          • is whatisname

            'Baresi' on there with 'Satisfaction'.

When the 'Dad days' CD advert with 'simply the best' is on the tellym my kids all snigger mischieviously, knowing full well they'd be up for eviction if they ever brought me that.

Poor dads are just as stereotyped as much as mums, appatrently I am meant to be good at DIY because Im a dad

            • .

fathers day cds are jus commercial products...

              msmusiq @creakyknees | 12 Jun '06, 22:12 | X
              • WHAT??!?!?!?

                When was this announced?

                thommo @msmusiq | 12 Jun '06, 22:13 | X
                • I am tempted

to buy my dad the Pet Shop Boys greatest hits. he went to Neil Tennents' school, so he might actually like that....

                  IrishMagpie @thommo | 12 Jun '06, 22:47 | X
                  • That's fair enough...

There's obviously nothing wrong with buying your Dad something he'd like!

What disturbs me is these people who buy these generic cash-in compilations just 'cos they haven't got any other ideas.

                    theguywithnousername @IrishMagpie | 12 Jun '06, 22:51 | X
                    • Moi!

                      therapyrock @theguywithnousername | 12 Jun '06, 22:53 | X
                    • the cover of the cd

in terms of colours, layout font etc are all very similar to the 'housework songs' compilation too.....

                      ladyoftheflowers @theguywithnousername | 12 Jun '06, 22:53 | X
                      • :D exactly!

                        • .

                          msmusiq @ladyoftheflowers | 13 Jun '06, 22:10 | X
                      • hahahaha

                      • The advert just said for the Orson advert:

"Have you got a bright idea for Fathers Day?"

Made me laugh, they're selling the album as a Fathers day present!
