But you're meant to say
"NO-ONE EXPECTS THE SPANISH INQUISHITION"
but types it looks wrong, but wriiten down I wouldn't hyphen.
I don't know my grammar rules too well, and Moker I think no to all those but only THINK mind
This is fourth time I've said this in a couple of days.
Either I'm missing a lot of in-jokes, or popular culture appears to be passing me by.
but then it turned into questions about the rules of the English language. If anyone can answer my question, I'll give them a pint.
just smile and nod along
that one the other day I didn't understand at all. It didn't even read properly.
please. I honestly don't know.
Also, are you meant to put a comma before an 'and'?
My feeble old man mind is blanking things I don't understand out. It's easier that way, all I have to concentrate on is what time I should eat, and how to order pizza.
and pizza should be on speed dial. If that's any help
I'm quite scared by that thought.
Is this bad? Should I be banned or soemthing? I've seen clips. Something about Micahel Palin on a cross in a desert. Meh.
Does this mean you've never watched Fawlty Towers or a Fish Called Wanda?
Monty Python is one of the true greats of british 20th Century artistic comic heritage. Up there with Douglas Adams' stuff.
Cleese slapping a Spanish bloke in the head, innit.
And Fish Called Wanda, yeah, that's Jamie Lee Boobies. S'alright. I've also seen the follow up, which was excrusiactingly awful, but probably isn't relevant now.
But no, never seen Monty Python. I think I even own one of them on video. I just can't be arsed to watch it, as...well, it doesn't interest me. Sorry.
Well maybe you wouldn't. Sometimes I worry about you.
I've never seen a bond movie all the way through, coz they suck. Apparently that makes me anti-british, if not the antichrist.
I don't watch much telly.
they pretty much do suck cock. The final reel is always just a lot of explosions and running around. Luckily this will coincide with your mid-bank holiday nap.
I was trying to explain Douglas Adams genius to my mates who's only impression of him was the terrible, terrible feature length Hitch Hikers Guide with that bloke what was off The Office.
My Dad read me all of his books when I was younger and the old TV series is just THE DON.
Why did Hollywood have to shit all over the remake? And since when has Ford Prefect been black?
- the TV series is actually pants and at no point does anything the original radio series didn't do better.
- Ford can be black. In fact I thought Mos Def did a good job as looking as incongruous as possible.
- And to make the point I'd like to complain about the TV series turning Trillian into a blonde American bimbo and not having Geoffry McGivern play Ford either.
- Douglas wrote that film script and I think it shows.
- Aside from Martin wassisface not being quite ridiculous-enough as Arthur (where was the posh accent? That was part of his character) and some dubious moments, that film wasn't really bad at all.
Didn't Fry do the voice over instead of the original bloke (bear with me as I knowno-ones names)? I thought that was a bit of a shame. Secondly, Arthur can't be anyone but the original guy who played him.
Point taken on Ford. I don't think Adams ever gives a full description of him being any type of bloke.
I did listen to most of the radio series at uni, but normally when pissed / at night / with mates, but to me it seemed very similar to TV programme.
And I never read Mostly Harmless. Any good?
It's okay, but not great.
Every version of the story is different. One could only really describe the original 12 radio episodes as the 'definitive' versions. Off hand I've:
- Heard the radio shows
- Heard the vinyl album versions based on the first radio series (different music cues and re-recorded entirely but with the same actors)
- Seen the TV show
- Seen the stage show (but was v. young and don't really remember it)
- Read the books
- Played the Infocom game
- Seen the film
I'm pretty sure there are some other versions out there too, from what I remember of Adams' list...
While Adams certainly had Ford being a white guy in conception, I don't think there's any reason to make him white. He is, after all, an alien, not a human. The name should probably have been changed too, since I'm fairly sure the Ford Prefect was a popular make of Ford car at the time. Well you see my point: I think Mos Def did a really good job. It's weird to see the same lines given a different emphasis to how you remember them, but that's how it goes...
Mostly Harmless is an under-rated book. Adams' writing had really progressed by then and it feels like much more of a complete novel than the others.
You might be right. I think the ending was downer.
In reference to Stephen Fry playing the book instead of Peter Jones...well, Jones was dead. To use him they'd have had to have kept all the book's parts the same and re-use the dialogue.
On top of that they would presumably have needed the permission of the BBC to do this so it was probably more trouble than it was worth.
body expects the spanish inquisition!
after and open bracket?
Or after a hyphen?
Or after a colon?
