So it seems Sven's strongest team includes Jamie carragher as a holding midfield player
He plays in front of the back for and behind other, more attacking-minded midfield players.
I predict 500 people will respond at the same time as me.
Ok, so I was wrong about the second part.
who has very little talent and is there to bore the opposition into submission
and even i know it'll still be the best squad we've had for 30 years...according to the media.
why not play theo walcott as a holding midlfielder? he'd be much better
i heard he was the best player to ever play for england and he would win the world cup on his own against five teams at once.
you fool. He's brilliant for Liverpool week in, week out.
He used to play defensive midfield for Liverpool and England U-21s, so he knows what he's doing.
every world cup.
even in 94.
to be fair, it has got some strong players in it, but owen is not the man he used to be, rooney is crocked and i still don't understand why g nev is the best right back in england.
he clearly is
i'm not questioning whether he is or not, but why has no one come through to adequately challenge him?
there are 4 or 5 people who could play central defence for england, but only one right back, is this natural?
everyone squad is the best they've had as footballers get better as the years go by. Not only that but no Rooney?
Possible Germany at home? Then Argentina? Or Portugal is we wi our group. I don't like them odds.
I thought 2002 was our year. I was convinced of it. I even thought we were gonna beat Brazil, especailly when we went 1 Nil up.
but ubnfortunately no-one is better. maybe walcott can play right back?
NO other right-back. I still can't believe Danny Mills went to the last World Cup
bit strange though. really. the expected line-up.
I know gerrard and lampard get forward, but I can't see Owen doing very well playing up front on his own...
Gary Neville is the best right back in England because of the following: he is steady, consistent, VERY rarely makes a mistake (although Shaun Goater would chortle at this), links up well with our right-sided midfielder (whether you like him or not), has a lot of experience, and never gives less than 100%.
Also, his competition is Danny Mills - a man deemed not good enough for Manchester City, Luke Young - a man who is injured, Leighton Baines - the most lightweight defender in the premier league and Steven taylor - who, in fairness, probably deserves a chance. Just not yet.
the bollocks. He can play centre mid, right or left back (as he did when Liverpool won the treble in 2001) or centre half. Very rarely does he not have a good game and always gives 100%.
England will win it, even without rooney...
The midfield and defence are excellent. Owen is a proven world class striker.
The only real issue is who to partner him.
Therefore I believe England will beat Italy 2-1 in the World Cup Final next month.
aren't they all going to prison or being put to death or something?
have a good team this year.
I forgot they had all been disrupted by the scandal.
England will still win. Note this is not me just saying it cos i want them to win. I actually think they will...
it's that psychic thing we've got going on. We're like Sutton and Shearer, or Rush and Fowler, or Little and Large.
They have an excellent chance really.
Aside from Brazil, they are the second favourites.
They have as I said a great midfield and good defence. A proven world class striker.
Most of the team have extensive CL experience, some of won it and some reached the final this year. Most of the team has won a championship...
were booed off the park last week...
I don't think England would win if they started now. Even at full strength, I think there are other stronger squads out there. Anyone that doesn't agree is welcome to back England with me on Betfair...
in most other countries. I'd say we rank in a second tier below Brazil, Italy, France and Argentina, with the likes of Holland, Portugal, Germany and Spain.
I think we've got a reasonable chance of getting knocked out in agonising circumstances in the semi final
They narrowly scraped through a group with Ireland and Israel.
They needed Zidane and Thuram to come out of retirement for this.
I read international football sites. England ARE fancied for this one...
than our best 11.
England DO have a chance, but so do many other countries. It's rarely this open (on paper) to be honest.
I think England have the stonger XI...
..i'd pretty much agree with thewarn. Only I'd swap France and Germany between groups.
You cant write off the germans...
Fair enough to youse two's opinion. I put england in that first group though...
hahaha! yeah.. i am. Have to try to stir these things up though. :p
but below that is a tier with all those teams mentioned in. I don't think we'll win it, we'll probably get to the quarters or semis and lose in some unimaginably devestating way.
are definitely favourites.
I am certain they won't win though. Even if england don't win...
i'm thinking argentina. or maybe italy.
Andy Johnson should play.
As for Carragher, WTF do we even need a holding midfielder for? Why waste a player there when we need all the attacking midfielders we can lay our hands on as Crouch is a footballing Chewbacca and Owens only got one leg. Or something.
the hype is too much...
I still think they will win this one...
that is a friendly...
who gives a fuck.
