Lady Chatterly's Lover...
Would anyone who has read this book give me some kind of outline as to what happens. I'm meant to read it for my essay, but I don't have time.
Thanks.

it's all about SEX !
with a gardner !
I haven't read it
But my friend did a presentation on 'Birdsong' today without reading it. Her mum told her what it was about. She got a 'b', surprisingly and said the word 'erm' a total of 44 times.
birdsomg = boring shit
me = alone in this opinion
no wonder she didn't read it
it's laughable
so bloody worthy. gah.
OK
If no one has read it, does anyone know why it was censored in America?
got the word cunt in
and it's all about teh sex.
It was censored because it's about sex?
Gah, thats pathetic. WHy didn't they just put big stickers on the front?
I'll read it one day...
the dirty thirties
the shirty thirties
it's not just the sex
it's dirty sex i think. and it crosses a class boundary. which is probably why people were outraged, and then pointed to the sex as an excuse.
Maybe. This is conjecture, i've never read it.
You and Wishpig
Keep replying at the same time, It's ace.
^ i was going to write this
but decided not to. and my housemate distracted me.
it's normal sex
but with swear words, used very romantically, which was kind of lawrence's point as far as I know. the class thing wasn't brought up as a primary issue, but was clearly a major thing to some of the censors. also the adultery is a bad thing, and the husband gets sympathy votes cos he is disabled (and therefore can't shag).
you should be able to get a potted summary of this sort of thing from spark notes or just by googling... presumably you're asking partly from a wish to be entertained :-P
sanscrit
was it only America?
I thought it got censored here too, perhaps my dad lied to me when he told me about it.
it got censored here too
i saw a dramatisation about it. it was kind of quite good as well. bbc4 perhaps?
I've only ever read...
about half of it I'm afraid. If you Google it you should pull up quite a lot of information!
I remember watching the
TV series as an impressionable teen. The woman (Joely Richardson? PHWOOOAARRR) got naked. It was one of the first times I'd seen BARE LADY BITS.
Great days.
