I didn't even laugh today at dieselsweeties, I just nodded.
all these internet cartoons with immobile talking heads. It's like Calvin and Hobbes never happened.
isn't amazing, no.
But what is cool is the occasional culture commentary like that one.
but some people always give the impression that they have a band without ever actually doing it.
i see what they're getting at, but i don't get how you do that unless by outright lying.
and the need to create etc...
I dunno really
(obviously I wasn't actually walking away while I was typing that, because I woulnd't have been able to see what I was doing, but I plan to walk away now)
'repeat until funny'.
people repeat TV catchphrases at me.
"am I bovvered"
No, you're a twat
Oh how I laughed.
with lines from films?
sixth form common room (5 years ago)
an young JezCC sits with his indie freinds talking about how we liked the stereophonics early stuff and how were not bothered about this nu-metal stuff.
Then a group starts quoting clerks, they pretty much do the whole film, laughing at each other quoting it verbatim.
I nearly cried.
used to spend hours quoting withnail and I.
Put me off the film for years. I still can't watch it without thinking of 'communist-anarchists' who now work at British Gas.
I'm making time!
especially withnail and I.
quoted the whole of withnail and I at me.
I don't actually want to watch it, and possibly never will. Not if that coke snorting, eton twat, oxford reject, wanker loves it so much.
it is genuinely good and the lines will still have resonance.
but its difficult to overstate waht a cunt he is
i heard a girl say this in a totally non-ironic way yesterday. her and her chav boyfriend were argueing and her answer to everything her said was "do i look bothered?"
am i bovvered?
because of the context
i get so annoyed at my friends just whipping out catchphrases and quoting quoting quoting.
they're not funny and the source material becomes less funny as a result. but then with little britain etc it isn't very funny in the first place.
comics again? 50s Bully.
what would be a good example to purchase?
ANY OF THEM! They're all amazing! I think I might actually be Clowes as he depicts himself in the comics. It's all paranoid depressives with side-partings, ankle-swingers and thin lapel-suits.
I haven't bought "Like a Velvet Glove", yet cos I don't want to run out of Clowes...
I might get a book.
His stuff is masterful! I think he's the only bona-fide post-1970 genius! Which is praise indeed from me!
but my favourites are compilations called "20th century 8-ball" and "Caricature". Life-changing stuff. Well - for me they are...
so I never got any of the actual comics - just the books. Is there any extras in the comics or is it all covered by the compilations?
I think most of those are in the eightball compilation book
