Why does britain always do well at things only to fail at EVERYTHING ?
barca were the better team, really.
And the free kick was PROPER dodgy
some people just let off fireworks. Maybe they were Spanish.
shame they lost, but Barcelona are an incredible side.
i dunno. they have an amzing player. and decent team. but incredible side?
which club side is better? Juve are maybe their equals, but both are better than any British side.
i don't really rate juve. never seem as good as they should be.
when we won the european cup we had an incredible midfield, barca have an incredible strikeforce. milan back in the day had an incredible defence. and midfield. and striker.
last incredible side: early nineties milan.
is too strong for Barca. But I think they are good enough to dominate European football over the next few years... unless Chelsea get themselves a better strikeforce of course.
i think against a world class midfield i think they may struggle. i really hope chelsea don't dominate.
i reckon personally that it's fairly even at the top. any team can beat any other on the day.
Ronaldinho didn't even score. THere was some great football last night though, and ultimately Arsenal didn't deserve to win. Henry goes and complains about the sending off, but he missed some great chances so there's no point really.
(Don't look at me, it was Alan Pardew who said it)
this is what the world cup will be like
I'm disappointed but not dejected. What a great run to get there and a more than commendable performance on the night.
to lose because of a wrong decision like that...
i don't expect that in a european final.
arsenal have been robbed of their proudest moment and i am ashamed for football.
Arsenal fans will be crying all over North London.
Eto'o was offside, i've seen the replay.
i thought you were referring to the sending off actually.
I'd blame Lawrenson on five live - "Barcelona just aren't going to score in the second half. I can't see it happening."
but to call Eto'o onside?
in a match of such magintude i can't believe it.
obviously as an arsenal fan i'm distraught, but i'd be appalled if that happened in any game.
Spurs were poisoned. England got knocked out the World Cup in 86 by a hand ball, Sol Campbell's goal against Portugal was disallowed... It's the way the football crumbles or something.
TOUGH SHIT ARSENAL.
the fact you can compare Maradona's handball to a wrongful offside decision...
arsenal defended resolutely for 76 minutes and then that.
i feel sick.
theres should've stood. and the linesman can't see if larsson touches it...
surely you've watched a football match before?
to say the linesman can't see it... why not? he's supposed to be the best in the world to be refereeing this occasion!
it was a very gentle touch, and players were blocking his view. and i'm still unconvinced he was offside, though i haven't watched the replay.
and your freekick was a blatant dive.
the point is, a world class lino would have seen that.
so I can see why linesman/ref was fooled, but looking at the replays, Puyol really didn't seem to touch him.
"it is a black day for Britain when.."
Once again, they fail to repeat the sheer entertainment of last year.
Well done Arsenal.
Now, the trophy lies in some CRAP country.
i enjoyed this match more than last years. and the better team won this time too.
even if i wish they hadn't
Maybe you enjoyed it more because you're a bitter united fan who cannot stand to see the obvious, previously-under-dog rival flying high, whilst you play immensely mediocre.
i enjoyed this one more because it was better balanced. for my money you didn't actually play well last year. they just played amazingly badly second half.
yeah, credit for sticking to it and stuff. but it wasn't great football.
and we play much much better football than you.
As United end the season with major silverware in their cabinet... Oh and, second place in the league. LOL.
OK, so just remind me where you came again in relation to United? I know United weren't good enough to win, I don't dispute that but half of those Champions' League matches Arsenal were poor. The game against Sevilla was a fluke, and you were lucky none of their chances went in.
this is not a country issue, it's a fucking club issue.
The World Cup is a country issue. I'm bloody pleased Arsenal lost. It means ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to English football is Arsenal won or lost.
Up until the sending off the game was a delight, it was poised to be one of the best finals ever. (The actual best final is the AC Milan victory in 1994).
Of course, without much support Henry was a forlorn figure attempting to plow his own furrow.
Perhaps for the general mood of the game the referee should have played advantage.
Arsenal had a few chances, perhaps fresher legs would have taken the chances.
Barca were now able to probe Arsenal at will, and this is what they did. The goal for Campbell was a bolt from the blue but this meant that Arsenal would start defending deeper and deeper and start seeing less of the ball.
The second half to be honest though was one way traffic, and the substitutions meant that Arsenal were streatched to breaking point, and break they did.
The first goal went in, their was an air of inevitability about the goal, it may have smelt of offside but the goal was coming.
Even at 1-1, there only felt to be one outcome, and that outcome duly arrived 5 minutes later.
Aresnal tried once more, but were deprived of energy and the ball.
In the end, Barca were the best team, but I keep thinking right now how the game could have been if the sending off did not happen.
the whiff reached me soon enough.
Apart from lower league football.
But with a European referee in a European enviroment they are always free kicks.
had chances in the second half.
They should have scored one of them...
he should have allowed the first Barca goal AND sent Lehmann off. The second most acceptable decision would have been to allow the Barca first goal and not punished Lehmann.
Any team in a nil nil game will accept a goal rather than see the opposition merely shuffle their goalkeepers around.
Barca were the best team on the night. The problem is that Arsenal now have an excuse to whinge about losing. It's exactly the same as when Chelsea had Del Horno sent off - the losers on the night can moan all they want, but the fact is that no one can tell what might have happened if things were different.
Oh, and Eto'o was level for the equaliser. You may have wished that he wasn't, but he was.
i'd rather have been 1-0 down with 11 men after 16 minutes.
barca were only 'better' because they had 11 men - they were very poor really and couldn't break arsenal down without the assist from the linesman.
eto'o was NOT level. i've seen it several times.
Calm down and have a drink.
Theo Walcott would have saved the day surely. Arf!
even without the bias i'm upset.
inconsistency is killing football.
i've never seen anything to say otherwise.
i'm still absolutely appalled.
when a goal has been scored.
Arsenal were magnificent! Any team in the world aint gonna hold out against this Barca team for 76 mins in a final. But they nearly did. Ljungberg was incredible, how could he keep on running like that? Same for Hleb. They all fought, and deserve praise for that. Did no one else notice the turning point: David Pleat commentating said "The sight is in end!" and promptly Barca scored. That aint a typo, he really did say that.
no no no no no no no no no no
England better not do this to me in the world cup too. But I'm sure they will...
is that my girlfriend was gutted. As a Liverpool fan and them trying to take OUR trophy and all, I tried to be as sympathetic as I could when they lost, but apparently I was patronising.
We had an argument. But then we went to the pub. BUT then I had an argument with a bouncer in the pub about me putting my feet on the table.
Not a good night.
Tom-from-sparks. If only the ref had played the advantage, let the goal stand and left 11 Arsenal players on the pitch. Then we may have seen a match worth watching.
Arsenal played really well and deserved to win.
to SilentCommand who said "If the referee had been fully correct he should have allowed the first Barca goal AND sent Lehmann off." That's not right at all. But he should have played advantage.
And the first Barcelona goal looked pretty level to me.
And the Arsenal free kick didnt look like there was much in it. I think those two probably even each other out... Even though in general I thought the refs decisions were going against arsenal.
Arsenal looked the better side up until the sending off, and defended really well after that.
I cant believe Henry is that good on the ball when barely able to stand up.
Almunia was pants. He let in 2 goals at the near post.
